Silver Rx8 in RR (austin)

I've seen a silver RX8 in round rock twice now... just wondering if they are on here.

Saw them today on louis hennah up near Dell. I was in the backfiring 3rd gen rx7

Anyway, if you are on here...

I want to test drive an 8 but all the dealers are being punks.

Uhm, I think silver, it wasn't dark grey so I guess the lighter color is silver?

Either way, still had dealer plates on it (duh) and it was on loius hennah today around 1130.

Anyone want a drive to trade a drive in a modded 3rd gen rx7 for a drive in an rx8? hehehe j/k

I seriously want to head down with some rx8's to lime creek and tackle the twisties once you guys get all broken in. Let me know if any of you guys are up for it!

Hey Mike, when I get my RX-8 in, we are going to have to hit up Lime Creek.

Lime Creek Rd is getting too heavily populated to be safe and fun any more. If you have time to head a little farther afield, I'd prefer a run on Nameless Rd, 1431, or somewhere else out that way.

How fast? I'd rather not say. 2222 and City Park Rd? Damned skippy! :D

I live near the MoPac end of 2222, so that's out usual route out of town to the twisties. City Park can actually be more fun than Lime Creek, as there are fewer houses and traffic, and it's tighter and twistier.

Yup, especially in the summer. Boats! Aieeee.

It really helps what time you go. Anytime during heavy lake season is usually bad, but as fall comes around, it starts to lighten up. If you hit the right time, you can generally have a few good runs.

I don't take it really fast anymore because it just isn't worth it if something goes wrong, but I'll take it fast enough to have some fun. Sometimes, its just about cruising with the windows down enjoying the breeze with a killer view and twisties.

Nameless road = bump city! I did a couple runs with the WRX group once and almost lost my tail going turning and hitting a bump.

Fun roads all around though, We definetly need to cruise wherever it us.

Your getting an rx8? Sweet. Gonna keep the boostless wonder or is she going to the rx8 cause?

Well, I live up in Pflugerville, I have a Titanium Gray, but I haven't taken it over by Dell yet. So it wasn't me.

There aren't that many places close to town, but venture a little farther west and you're grtting into the Hill Country, where great roads are plentiful. Take a ride to Coopers BBQ in Llano via 2222, Bullick Hollow Rd, 1769, Lime Creek Rd, 1431 to Marble Falls, then 281 north for a few miles, west on Park Road 4 around the shores of Inxs Lake, and then US29 west into Llano. Feast on the best brisket in Texas, and retrace your steps. Careful you don't spill your leftovers in the trunk on the return trip!

For even more fun, take a full day or even a weekend, and head out to Kerville to explore the twisties in the heart of the Hill Country. Fabulous roads out there. Watch out for crotch rockets, Miatas and Porsches. :D

I used to run all those roads on my Kawasaki KZ1000 back in '79-'80... then my '83 RX-7... Lime Creek, 2222, 2244, Nameless, 1431, Spicewwod Springs, etc. 620 used to be fun, too, when it was two lane.

My favorite single run of curves still has to be the set on 2222 just north of the County Line restaurant, though. It's almost too populated now, but the curves are still great, you can see far enough ahead of you to not get into trouble, and the two lanes each direction gives you enough room to maneuvre if anything unexpected comes up.

The thing that really scares me now, though... on the little 2 lane back roads... you've got to be careful of bicyclists taking up your lane when you're rounding some of those not so visible curves. That's enough to take some of the fun out of the small backroads anymore.

I'm gonna have to take a trip up towards Llano and Inks lake, though. I'm familiar with those roads, as I used to drive them for work, but have never driven them for sport, and had kinda forgotten about them. Also, haven't been down towards Kerrville.

Edit: I meant the curves just south of the County Line restaurant (the other north :p)

Hope i dont get lost going to all those different locations bc i dont have nav :D. It's great to hear that many of u guys still hit the roads and its not just me. I usually drive at night to avoid the cops and people. Have u guys ever run with the M3s, MR2s or Mazdas on Lime?

Until I sold my 10AE earlier this year, we had two Miatas. We still have one. It was the Miata crowd that introduced me to most of those roads. :D

Night's too scary for me... too many deer crossing the road... and too easy to overdrive the headlights.

Me too. That's not to say I don't enjoy the occasional nocturnal blast, but all other things being equal, I'd rather drive under our overhead bazillion-candlepower light source than with a meager couple of hundred watts showing the way. One deer strike was enough for me.

overdrive?
ive only seen deer around 10pm-12am but they usually on the side of the road...luckily ive never seen one "on the road." My friends and I usually go after midnight and I havent seen any then. I usually dont lead so that lowers the risk of deer interaction....i should get a deer whistle and attach it to the sunroof. :D

HID's should make overdriving your headlights not an issue.

On the straight and level, sure, but many of the roads we're talking about here twist and turn in three dimensions. Lighting off to the side, and particularly up and off to the side, is somewhat lacking. If I was planning on doing much backroad night driving, I'd be looking at fitting some good spread-beam driving lights from Cibié or Hella.
