But why do we need to stay in a hotel for 3 nights again? We can just drive down sat morning, and then head out sat night. I don't think I will be booking a hotel room for no reason lol. Unlike some, my girl can and does drive stick, in more than one way:P She can just drive us back up if were done come sat night. Now if someones throwing a party after at thier home thats another story!

Unpack what? I think I will be using my military field exp for this one and just pull a 24 hour joy ride.
We are just staying Friday and Saturday night at the hotel, if you want to drive down Saturday morning then thats up to you. But we usually leave the hotel around 9am ish to start getting ready for the cruise. Then Saturday night is just the dinner, raffle, hanging out and having fun.

Well if things go as planned I will have the little lady drive down while I sleep :P then vice versa. But on a side note, wheres the party sat night gonna be at:P someones house? a bar? hopefully not a hotel reception area, that can get kind of boring and would feel like another work reception.

Wouldn't it be more fun to show up someplace like a night club, or someplace with more than just us. Ive been to hundreds of "Hotel Parties" when I was in the Marines. Its not my party its y'alls so I will just throw suggestions out there. I lived 200 miles from Vegas when I was stationed in the miltary. I did the Muscle car scene out there. Sema, SoCal Muscle Car Shows, SCCA events, SCTA, Speed Ventures, PSCA, and the VARA with my 1958. Now I am not knocking what you planned, but we always had more fun when we brought our cars outside the club. It gives you a chance to let the public admire the vehicle. It also gave us a chance to bring more people in. We almost always got people to join the clubs I have been in when we held our parties in public. Now again this is your event so I would never want to ruin anything. I am just suggesting that from my experience, which is only about 14 years in different clubs and tracks. So take it or leave it, I believe though it would be more fun if the sat night thing was more public so everyone can get more admiration for the work they have done.

Your car will get more attention like this then it would at a hotel parking lot . Just a suggestion is all.

Don't want to step on any toes since I technically do not own a vote anymore in this category...but I wouldn't want more attention on my 8 than from those in the 8 club and I wouldn't really care to have 'more people join the clubs" unless they find it for the same reason we all have...they OWN AN 8.

Right?

And we are not the marines. Our "hotel parties" kick serious ***. Maybe you should youtube last years...I found the golf cart incident quite appropriate and typical of our group. Sad I missed it.

Not downing the suggestions, just giving my input. I could be wrong, maybe things are different now...but I doubt it.

This was never meant to ruin anything or step on anyones toes. But first and foremost. If your under the age of 21 I don't want to know about it. A buddy of mine Carl spent 4 months in prison for providing alcohol at a party to kids under the age of 21. That was after his 5K in fines/lawyer costs, and the fact he was charged with a Class A Misdameanor. He lost his job, and a Class A is just under a felony conviction so he is having a really hard time getting another good job like he had before. He was a respiratory therapist so his job and certification alone were not cheap. So thats step one, if your not 21 please just don't say anything. You never know who is reading what, and who is watching. Change your posts to read that you are 21. Someone could be reading this and start handing out tips. Its not worth it to any of us, especially those of us who work in the medical field. If you plan on doing anything you shouldn't do until your 21 make sure its of your own accord and you don't bring someone down with you just in case. In the State of Texas if your 19 and someone provided you alcohol and you get into a wreck not only is it your fault but also the person that handed you that beer.

So please change your posts if you happened to say your age to be more generic statements.

As far as the hotel parties go with the Marines our parties were never matched. Everywhere we went we drank for free in unlimited quantities, we were never held accountable for anything that we did legal or illegal, and we always had more women show up than you could ever imagine. We would throw hotel parties that involved 200+ people. It was Vegas there were no rules. The hotel staff never cared. We probably should have been in jail for some of the things we did lol. I am just suggesting that this be done at a night club, or at someones house if they are willing to risk it. From my understanding you have a good rep with this hotel? That can change very quickly at a hotel party. It was just a suggestion to move this to a place that allows for drunk and disorderly conduct without care, and gives an opportunity to be seen and show off your car. Its worked in the past, and I just wanted to throw it up there for a suggestion. What we would do is hold the hotel parties, or parties at a place other than where we slept. We would actually book our rooms in one hotel, and book the party in another more appropriate place.

Um...ok...that was completely unnecessary and confusing??

I never said we went to prom to hand out alcohol...in fact we didnt even go to prom.

You really should hear that story I suppose. Or maybe you just had to be there. Although I'm kinda okay that you weren't. Or maybe you should at least ASK what the story is before writing a longass paragraph lecturing/informing about underage drinking? I don't know. Just saying...could have saved you some time. But since we are going off on random tangents, I'm TABC certified. Anyone give a ****? Yeah, I didn't think so. Cuz it's irrelevant...catch my drift?

I'm signing off. Should have just kept my mouth shut apparently, didn't realize I am so outdated I was going to get lectured by the ex-marine who, by the way, is younger than me (yes I am of legal drinking age) and does not date the only female who can drive a stick.

You guys have fun. I was pretty sure I would go this year but suddenly...I'm total okay sitting this one out.

This was COMPLETELY ridiculous.

Read phrenetiK's post and not yours.

No where did I accuse you of being under 21. No where did I talk about your prom or even mention your name. It was a generalized statement for those who have. At least let me accuse you personally of something first. That statement was for those who have made comments about what they want to do, plan to do, and thier age. Its the same basic thing we were coached in high school. Generalized statements and deniability. If your not 21 act like you are, and never hint towards anything else. I do give a **** about my licenses so I would rather not loose them over something as retarded as that.

At least don't have an explosive reaction over my not wanting to hear about someone planning to underage drink. Medicine is my lively hood, and has been for a while. I cannot take this to lightly after a good long time friend of mine has lost his license and his comfortable life over this kind of thing.

Alright, alright, let's keep the drama in the underfunded departments at colleges.

First off, Kerrville, isn't exactly Vegas when it comes to bar/club/night life. Actually, it's a far cry from it, but that's not why we're going down there.

Secondly, most of those places require you to be 21 to get in. There are a few members of our group that fall into that exclusion category and we try to be as inclusive as possible.

And while we will have dinner, raffle, social gathering, don't expect it to be a big bass thumpin' party. Most of us have a pretty good time.

As for your idea of driving down Saturday and leaving Saturday, that's completely up to you, but I will tell you this from the four other major cruises I've set up and done (and we're not talking McKinney - no offense Scott), you're likely to be *very* tired by the end of the day. Besides, the trip is also about camaraderie too and getting to meet the folks from around the state and neighboring areas. If you only drive in for the day and leave, you miss out on it *cough SA folk*.

doc there is no reason for me to change my post, because i have not yet started to love alcohol, i actually hate the taste with a passion. therefor I don't drink. If i really wanted to get drunk and go to a club though I could do that in one of houstons clubs. I'm going to the texas 8 for a giant appreciation of other texas 8's, to meet some of my internet friends from SA, and for the awesome cruise. I will go to the party saturday night and still have fun, as long as we don't go to a place I cannot get into

Well hey nice time to change the subject!

The area that we ate at last time is growing pretty good so there will be a few places that we could choose from but Flip's and BJ's are always good places to go.

I task y'all with getting more SA folks to stay!

Besides, I think y'all come to witness the JoeHawk antics. Wonder if we can find a golf cart again...

Doc, I want to reiterate this because it can't be said enough. I personally would rather you not come if this is going to be your plan. Your experience aside, I want all of the drivers at the meet to be WELL rested (ie slept in a bed for 8 hours). If this were a case of you living in SA and driving an hour that morning to meet in Kerville that would be one thing, but DFW to Kerville is a minimum of a 5 hour trip. Add to the fact that we drive literally almost all day and that is an accident waiting to happen. If we get some good runs in like I'm hoping (meaning no stupid road blocks like *** whole cops following us for 45 mins, or bikers purposefully blocking the road) then this is going to be a full day of what I like to call intense driving. Driving 12-24 hours straight on the road where you are not maintaining top awareness levels to get across the county is one thing, but this type of driving is completely different. It will wear you out and is comparable to a track day on steroids. My goal is safety before fun. This is a 2 night stay, not three.

As to the plans after dinner on Sat night, there are no and will be no official meet plans for a variety of reasons. If you want to get together with some other people at the meet and go do stuff like clubbin that's cool, you are welcome to it.

I agree with Riley on this one. Being one of the few members with the most experience with the 3 sisters run (a run about every 3-4 months for the past 3 years), your choice to drive down the morning of and then do a full run is not wise. Even with the experience we all have, the run is pretty demanding, both physically and mentally. Not to mention the fact the over stressing your engine will be experience.

+3. I know many do not consider a canyon run on the same level with a track day but I can say, the three sisters run is a lot harder than any track day or autox I have done.

Those roads do require a lot of focus as does driving in a caravan all day, it's very stressful on top of being a lot of fun, I've been doing it since my mini-truck club days back in the 80's and at the end of the day, heck, even at the end of a few hours driving it wears on you quick. I would say it's something to think about, you might be able to do a day trip and pull it off, but that drive back is going to be absolutely brutal, might even take you 1-3 days to recover before you feel "normal" again. (I say this as I drove 13+ hours total to Vegas back in 09 for Sema, (me and one other person shared the driving) that whole week I was a mess, couldn't sleep right, felt worn out all the time, sure the Sema show part was stressful but I think it was more that I was exhausted from all the driving etc.)

I haven't ever been TIRED after the 3 sisters runs, but at the same time I've always been ready for it to be done. I also think the wise decision would be to stay at least Friday night at the hotel. It's only $90. I understand that that's on top of $40*4-5 fillups, but it's a lot better than accidentally swerving into something/someone. If not for yourself, do it for our sakes. Nobody likes being behind/in front of someone that is drowsy and not keeping a consistent pace/mistakes. I don't doubt that you stayed up and taxed for probably several days straight in the marines, but we aren't all marines...
