Three Sisters Impromptu Run...

Three Sisters Impromptu Run...
I am doing an impromptu Three Sisters run tomorrow (1/18). A friend of mine may come along in his Merc, but if not it'll just be me and the wife...she loves to ride shotgun.
I am aiming for an 11:00am departure from Kerrville proper (at a yet undetermined corner gas station) after I get fueled up and grab a few snacks. Here is the route I plan to take...
...this is a variation on the route I took last time with a club member who lives in Kerrville and runs it all the time...
39 is a good warm up...after that a cooldown on 83 and 41...then we hit 336 and 337 with possibly a stop in Leakey...and then 16 on the way out.
I know this is very short notice, but I'll keep checking this site to see if any of you guys are up for it.

I remember we took this particular route since there was some construction going on. We pretty much bypassed 335 since it is a much more rural road...not a good road for the speeds we were running.
I'll use this as a scout mission for the one you were planning in February and let you know what I find.

Had a great run...perfect weather for it. I ran into a couple of cars at the start of 39 but quickly got around them and had a clear run all the way through to Leakey.
39 is a great way to start out from Kerrville...it slowly introduces you to the tighter turns with a steady climb in elevation. The downside is that they still have the construction one-lane lights in place. Not too bad as long as the entire group can get through.
336 was pretty good today...although there is a short section where they have added a new layer of chip seal so there was quite a bit of loose gravel...it's mostly on a section with longer turns so it wasn't that bad.
I must have gotten my roads confused (335 and 336) as it is 336 that has over a dozen cattle guards. I had my stiff as hell 18" cast OEM wheels on today so it wasn't too much of a concern. I just tap the brakes lightly and let off right before the guard so as the front end wants to rise up out of the braking it helps the car carry them easier. 336 is too good a road to let the cattle guards deter us from driving it. But really need to take the guards easy. I love the 700' elevation drop overs it length.
IMHO the first segment of 337 east from Leakey to Vanderpool is the absolute best driving with all the tight S twisties hanging cliffside. Really cool. Bummer that I got behind a couple of cars stacked on top of one another so I had to spend part of the twisties in reserve. Finally got around them and made the best of what was left.
337 after Vanderpool is more pedestrian than I had remembered and had a few constables patrolling around. For this particular planned route I should have gone left at Vanderpool back up 187 to 39 into Kerrville instead of continuing down 337 to 16 and Bandera. Live and learn.
All in all it was a great run. Wish you guys could have been there too. I hope your other events went well.
Would it be cool for me to attend the next Thursday GTG? It would be cool to shoot the bull and meet some of you guys before the next run in Feb.

Yeah...sorry 9k...it was ridiculously short notice! That sucks about the meet. It stinks when they don't pan out.

You guys seem to be really cool about "outsiders" who share the love of rotaries, so I wouldn't think I would be problem.

Its actually starts in Kerrville and is technically a whole weekend but I went up for the day from San Antonio. Your welcome anytime, once a owner, always an owner. We had a turbocharged IS300 and an FD with us on the run last time. Just be prepared, we attack the roads so if your not up to it you may wanna file in at the end of the pack (a few were not happy about the pace but 90% of us were extatic about it)

To help me understand the pace...and I realize its not a race, but what kind of average speeds are we talking about?

Kevo, I will send you a PM about the statewide meet......you can also go to www.thetexas8.com there you can find info about the event, read stories, check out pictures and also log onto the forum to get more info......
To log onto the websites forum though I do believe you would have to register on the website.
The site has only been up for about a week though so the forum does not have much content at this time.

Not sure if you saw any of my others posts about the rx8 vs z4m, but the 8 is no slouch (as you will agree!) and I am even more impressed with the 8 now that I have the M...mazda did ALOT of things right with the 8.
