Tinting in Austin

Tinting in Austin
I already did a search, so don't ask. If I missed a thread than a link would be appreciated. Anyway, I'm just wondering who knows the best places in Austin to get tint installed. I'm here for college so I still don't know all the stuff in Austin yet. The only place I've seen is Mother's Tint b/c of their commercial on tv. But the way that guy says come to Mother's "and saaavve" has made me question going there, heh. Just looking for some good recommendations. I wanna try and get it done after spring break.

I can't personally vouch for Mother's. I know Q121825 had his 8 tinted by the Mother's in south Austin. I'll let him chime in with the details. I took the easy way out and I'm having the dealer's normal tint installer do the work when all the other dealer installed options go in today and tomorrow.
For now though, I'll keep driving this loaner 6 I got this morning and keep wishing that it was Friday.

I have now had 5 cars tinted at Mother's in South Austin. And I've never had any complaints.
The first 4 cars (of which I still own 3) all had the basic metallic-dye (the organic stuff turns purple in a few years) tint put on (35% on the sides, limo in back). The oldest is 4 years old and still holding up fine.
For my 8, I had 3M tint put on. It's metallic-dye based and very, very, very black with no hint of reflectivity (the basic metallic dye has some reflectivity to it). I wanted the very black look since there is very little chrome on my 8.
Just my $0.02 worth. I do not have any monetary, social, legal or other connection to Mothers.

Hey thanks for the feedback guys. I just didn't want to get duped with a bad tint job because I didn't know any other place to go. I'm also planning to do a really dark black tint to go with my black 8, not something reflective.
If you don't mind my asking, how much did the job cost at mother's? Also, how long did you have to leave the car there?
So is a dealership and Mother's the only option in Austin for tint? I just don't really wanna drive to DFW unless I have to. Maybe I need to ask in a different section. Has no one else tinted their cars in the Austin area?

I paid $199 (they considered my 8 to be a "2-door") for the 3M tint. I went on a Tuesday and it took about half an hour. They let me move the car in & out (it was cold and I didn't want them to flood it).
I'll have to look when I get to work, there's a place on N Burnet some folks in the Texas RXs have gone to, but I don't remember the name. I'll drive past it on my way to work and post again.
FWIW, the 3M tint is warrantied by 3M and "any authorized 3M dealer" can perform warranty work if you think you might move.

The place mentioned by some folks at the last Texas RXs membership night was: Sun-Tint on Burnet Road North of 2222.
I don't have any experience with them, but other folks seemed to like them. FWIW.

Had mine done at Custom Sounds on Burnet. I also wanted the darkest tint available. Legal limit is 30% in TX, so I had them do 30 on the sides and 15 on the rear (rear can be lower). Paid around 215. The tint is called comfort film.

Hey, thanks for the info guys. That car's looking real nice. I'll go check out those places, and the prices seem pretty reasonable. Don't know if I'll be able to do it soon though, seeing as how the check engine light just came on last night. I don't have an OBD II reader, so I gotta wait until tomorrow to get it checked out at the dealership.

Last time I got a car tinted was around 2000 and I went to a place several friends said was good. I can't remember the name, but it was on burnet road north of 2222. So its probably sun-tint.
I was very happy with the results and the price was good.
Then, (i'm not on that road often) I was driving by a couple months ago and the place was gone. It was a mom and pop computer store I believe.
