Haha.

I think us rotary owners should meet up somewhere at school. I have mostly evening classes, so I'm pretty much free in the afternoon.

Houston Tops Army 35-21

Anthony Evans ran for 282 yards and two touchdowns Saturday to lead Cougars.

Sept. 19, 2004

Final Stats

HOUSTON (AP) - Anthony Evans ran for 282 yards and two touchdowns Saturday night as Houston got two late scores to beat Army 35-21 and extend the nation's longest losing streak to 17 games.

Evans ran 34 times as Houston (1-2) piled up 369 yards rushing on Army (0-2), which last won in November 2002, a 14-10 victory at Tulane. Evans was 18 yards shy of the school record, set by Joffrey Reynolds in 2002.

Army's Carlton Jones tied the scored on a 4-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter, but Houston answered quickly.

Vincent Marshall caught a 44-yard touchdown pass from John Kolb with 6:38 left, then Jackie Battle scored on a 28-yard run three minutes later to put the game out of reach.

Kolb completed 20 of 33 passes for 278 yards with a touchdown and an interception for Houston, which had 647 yards of offense.

Tielo Robinson led Army with 148 yards rushing, and Jones added 70 yards and a pair of TDs. Jones also had a 12-yard scoring run in the second quarter.

Houston had taken a 21-7 lead before Army's Reggie Nevels hit Jeremy Trimble with a 25-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth.

The Cougars led 13-6 at halftime on Evans' 1-yard TD run and a pair of field goals. Evans had 14 first-half carries for 81 yards.

Is anyone going to the game against Miami tonight? Student tickets aren't free anymore. I can't go, because Zimmerman just gave me a crap load of homework to do, and I have to write an intro to my next lab report.

Houston Hounded By No. 4 Miami

Ryan Gilbert rushes for a career-high 84 yards.

Sept. 23, 2004

By JOEL ANDERSON
AP Sports Writer

HOUSTON (AP) - Tyrone Moss rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns, Tavares Gooden recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for a score and Baraka Atkins scored on a 58-yard fumble return to lead No. 4 Miami to a sluggish 38-13 victory over Houston on Thursday night.

Moss' best rushing performance of his short career and the Hurricanes' opportunistic defense and special teams offset a particularly erratic performance by quarterback Brock Berlin.

Berlin was pretty much the only thing keeping Miami (3-0) from a lopsided victory. He finished 13-of-23 for 99 yards and was sacked seven times, often because of his own poor decisions in the pocket.

Miami also allowed its first offensive touchdown of the season: Kevin Kolb's 6-yard scamper into the end zone in the final moments of the first half. The Cougars' sideline erupted in celebration, with a few players tossing their helmets into the air.

The Hurricanes had gone 11 quarters and an overtime without giving up an offensive touchdown.

Thought to be a national title contender, Miami revealed plenty of glaring flaws against a team that was a four-touchdown underdog and was without its leading rusher. The Hurricanes were pushed around on defense by Houston's inexperienced offensive line and never could sustain any offensive momentum.

Houston tailback Anthony Evans, who rushed for 282 yards against Army last week, missed the game after straining his right calf during pregame warmups. He watched from the sidelines in his uniform, leaning on crutches with a boot on his leg.

Predictably enough, Houston got off to a rough start without him.

The Cougars (1-3) barely got their first play off on time, dropped a pass on the third play, committed a false-start penalty on the next and were nearly intercepted on third down. Gooden scored on Anthony Reddick's blocked punt on fourth down, 55 seconds into the game.

Frank Gore and Moss, a sophomore, added a couple of short scoring runs to give Miami a 21-0 lead early in the second quarter.

The Hurricanes didn't score again on offense until Moss' 5-yard run late in the fourth quarter.

Houston, playing its fourth game in 19 days, made Miami work a little harder than it expected in its first visit to Texas in seven years.

The Cougars failed to score on several chances deep in Miami territory. The Cougars drove inside Miami's 20 five times, and came away only with Kolb's touchdown run and two field goals.

Ryan Gilbert, a transfer from LSU, proved to be an adequate replacement for Evans. He rushed for a career-high 84 yards on 26 carries. Kolb was 11-of-28 for 156 yards.

This was the first meeting between the teams since Miami routed David Klinger and the Cougars 40-10 in 1991 at the Orange Bowl. It remains ESPN's highest-rated Thursday night game.

Okay, I need to update this thread because it's all the way down here.

Houston Falls To Memphis, 41-14

Vincent Marshall finishes with eight catches for 131 yards.

Oct. 2, 2004

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - DeAngelo Williams rushed for a school-record 262 yards while scoring four touchdowns Saturday to lead Memphis to a 41-14 victory over Houston.

Williams, who became the Tigers' leading career rusher in the game, scored on runs of 24, 39 and a pair of 3-yarders as Memphis racked up 501 yards in total offense. Williams' 262 yards in the game topped the Memphis record of 260 yards by Paul 'Skeeter' Gowen against Tulsa in 1969.

And, if that wasn't enough, Williams' rushing mark eclipsed the record of yards by an opponent against Houston set by LSU's Kevin Faulk in 1996.

Houston could manage only one offensive score - a 56-yard pass from Kevin Kolb to Vincent Marshall in the fourth quarter. Marshall finished with eight catches for 131 yards.

The Cougars' other touchdown came on a 75-yard interception return by Willie Gaston in the third quarter. The Cougars were held to 285 yards of offense.

Memphis, which had gotten off to slow starts in recent games, jumped out early behind the running of Williams. The junior had 129 yards on his first nine carries, had scored twice and broken the Tigers' career rushing record by the first minute of the second quarter.

Williams broke the career mark set by Tiger fullback Dave Casinelli from 1960-63.

Between Williams' first-half touchdown runs, quarterback Danny Wimprine connected with Chris Kelley on a 27-yard TD pass - giving the Tigers a 21-0 halftime lead.

Memphis collected 271 yards of offense in the half.

Meanwhile, the Tiger defense was holding the Cougar offense to 149 yards, led by a pair of sacks and a fumble recovery by Marcus West. Houston's deepest penetration in the first half reached the Memphis 29, but Kolb's fourth-down pass was dropped in the end zone by Marshall.

Along with Williams' two second-half touchdowns, Stephen Gostkowski added field goals of 47 and 30 yards.

I still love the red.

Cougars Fall To Southern Miss In Overtime

Houston racks up 518 yards in loss.

Oct. 7, 2004

By JOEDY McCREARY
Associated Press Writer

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - Backup quarterback Damion Carter threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Otho Graves in overtime, giving Southern Mississippi a 35-29 victory over Houston on Thursday night.

The Golden Eagles (4-0, 3-0 Conference USA), who blew a 14-point lead and trailed for most of the second half, forced overtime on starting quarterback Dustin Almond's 18-yard touchdown run with 1:22 remaining and Anthony Harris' game-tying 2-point conversion run.

Almond injured his left leg on the TD run, forcing sophomore Carter - who had attempted only two passes all season - into the game.

Southern Miss got the ball first in overtime and scored when Carter rolled right and hit Graves, who made a fingertip grab in the back of the end zone. Dustin McCaleb's extra-point was blocked.

Houston then advanced to the Southern Miss 15 before faltering with two plays for negative yardage, a false-start penalty and two incompletions.

Southern Miss fans stormed the field after Kevin Kolb's final pass sailed out of the end zone.

The Golden Eagles have won 12 straight Conference USA games since 2002.

Kolb was 19-of-36 for 345 yards and a touchdown for the Cougars (1-5, 1-3), who rallied from a 21-7 deficit and led 29-21 before Almond's touchdown run.

Vincent Marshall had four catches for 190 yards, turning several short slants into long gains for the Cougars, who haven't beaten Southern Miss since 1996.

Backup quarterback Kendal Briles - used by his father, Houston coach Art Briles as a multipurpose threat - caught 10 passes for 101 yards, and ran for 24 yards and a touchdown.

Houston had 518 yards to the Golden Eagles' 338.

Southern Miss - which entered giving up an average of 148 passing yards - allowed more than that (206) by halftime.

Almond was 16-of-28 for 169 yards with a touchdown to Antwon Courington for the Golden Eagles, who scored three of the first four times they touched the ball.

John Eubanks returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown for the Golden Eagles.

Dustin Bell had field goals of 37, 39 and a school-record 53 yards for Houston.

I hate it when people say it was a good game when their team lost.

Yeah. I saw y'all get shut out by OU. Don't feel bad. You 'horns could probably kick our asses any day of the week. All our best players were drafted, but that's not an excuse for us sucking.

Eugene, you're talking about "tea sips" with compassion! Shame on you, you traitor! OU only ended a streak that started in 1980. It could have been worse. It could have been since '79!

I don't think it gets much worse than losing to OU if you're a UT fan, at least when A&M beats us we're losing to a clean program, if the truth were to be made public about all the stuff that goes on at Owho, it'd make Colorado look cleaner than a freshly Zaino'ed 8. (I'm not making excuses, there's no excuse for yesterday) I didn't watch the game (purposely) as I knew what would happen, I knew our defense would hold, our special teams would hold, and I knew our offense wouldn't show up thanks to good ol' greg. Hopefully they'll bring in someone else at the end of the season as in UT's current state, they stand to lose at least 2 more. (man is Texas Tech looking scary, 70-10 against Nebraska..70?!..ouch!)

nah, Mack will stay, he is really not that bad a coach, but either Greg Davis has blackmailed him or the Alum know something I don't as he needed to be dealt with years ago and he is still there. UT dumps the defense staff and holy crap they're all of a sudden better, they keep the offense coordinator etc., and they still can't utilize all the mass amounts of talent they have (don't even get me started about Shipley) They should have been top 3 the last 5 years, can you imagine if OU or USC etc. had Roy Williams and Chris Simms on the same frickin' team, with Cedric Benson etc.? and Derrick Johnson and....yeesh, what a waste! That's almost as bad as the "dream team" debacle

Q: What changes can you make to get ready for Missouri?
A: We've got to figure out how to get more explosives out of our offense. OU is a great team. I'm not sure after yesterday that they're not the best team in the country again. We had a chance to win in the fourth quarter and didn't do it. We're not going to have household changes like you do when you get beat like we did last year. We need to adjust a few things to improve, because we have a tough schedule left. The corner blitz got us a couple of times, and we didn't handle it well. Where we have to grow is in the passing game. arrrrgh, when will it end?

Houston Tops East Carolina, 34-24

Houston Tops East Carolina, 34-24

Kevin Kolb throws for two touchdowns and runs for two more in the victory.

Nov. 6, 2004

Final Stats | Quotes | Notes

HOUSTON (AP) - Kevin Kolb threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more scores, and Anthony Evans ran for 156 yards and a TD as Houston beat East Carolina 34-24 Saturday.

Kolb threw for 251 yards and ran for 47 yards as Houston (3-5, 3-3 Conference USA) improved to 3-1 at home.

A 2-yard TD run by Kolb late in the third quarter put Houston up for good, then he added a 1-yarder to put the Cougars ahead 28-17.

East Carolina (2-6, 2-4) pulled to within 34-24 on James Pinkney's 58-yard touchdown pass to Will Bland with 2:58 left. The Pirates then recovered an onside kick but couldn't move the ball.

Pinkney completed 21 of 34 passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns.

Harold Taylor caught five passes for 100 yards for Houston, which totaled 487 yards of offense.

Houston's Will Gulley had three interceptions.

East Carolina led 17-14 at halftime on Pinkney's 4-yard touchdown pass to Jemarcus Veal and Cameron Broadwell's 45-yard field goal as time expired in the second quarter.

We won our homecoming game while I was watching the UT comeback 28 down to beat OSU last night. In case anyone was wondering, I was in Austin this weekend for MAES Symposium. It was great, and I was trashed. I wonder who owns the V-Red RX-8 that parked near me in the downtown Hilton garage. Pics of the game, the cars, and me in a business suit will be up soon.

Houston Falls to UAB, 20-7; Cougars Rally From Behind

Houston Falls to UAB, 20-7

Anthony Evans ran for 103 yards in the loss.

Nov. 13, 2004

Final Stats | Notes

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Roddy White caught two touchdown passes and UAB's defense bounced back from two poor performances to lead the Blazers to a 20-7 victory over Houston.

White caught scoring passes of 8 and 57 yards from Darrell Hackney. White finished with eight catches for 153 yards, giving him five 100-yard receiving games in a row.

UAB (6-3, 4-2 Conference USA) built a 14-0 lead and held off a Houston comeback attempt in the second period. The Blazers became bowl eligible while Houston (3-7,3-4) saw a two-game winning streak snapped.

Quarterback Kevin Kolb completed 19-of-39 passes for 196 yards and scored on a 7-yard run for the Cougars. Anthony Evans had 103-yards rushing on 26 carries for Houston.

UAB had allowed 104 points in losing two games in a row. That prompted Coach Watson Brown to shuffle his staff, moving assistants Rick Christophel and Woodrow Lowe to work with the defensive line. UAB had been without a defensive line coach since Pat Donohoe resigned following his arrest for marijuana possession earlier this season.

The coaching shuffle seemed to work for the Blazers. UAB held Houston without a first down in the first quarter and wound up with eight quarterback sacks.

UAB jumped on top when Dan Burks ran 21 yards for a touchdown with 8:51 left in the first quarter. After Houston failed to move the ball, UAB drove 56 yards in five plays to score on Hackney's 8-yard pass to White.

The Blazers missed two other chances to score in the first half. An interception by Rocky Schwartz at the Houston five-yard line stopped one UAB drive and a fumble recovery by Courtney Brooks at the Houston 16 stopped another.

Houston controlled the ball much of the third quarter, driving 66 yards in 15 plays to score on Kolb's seven-yard run.

That cut UAB's lead to 14-7. But the Blazers responded when Hackney fired a quick slant pass that White turned into a 57-yard scoring play. Houston blocked the extra point kick to make it 20-7.

Yeah it happened on Saturday, but what do you want from me, I'm in college?! :p

Well, one more game left, and it's with Louisville, and not Liouville...Sturm. :D

On a lighter note,

Cougars Rally From Behind

Houston Upends Sam Houston State, 72- 69

Nov. 15, 2004

By R.B. FALLSTROM
AP Sports Writer

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Ramon Dyer scored all eight of his points in the final five minutes, helping Houston rally from a 10-point second-half deficit for a 72-69 season-opening victory over Sam Houston State in the first round of the Guardians Classic Monday night.

Lanny Smith scored 22 points for Houston, which will play the winner of the Missouri-Brown game later Monday in the second round on Tuesday. The Cougars won in the debut of coach Tom Penders, who had been out of coaching for three years and inherited a team that was 9-18 last season.

Houston trailed 63-53 with 6:29 to go after a 14-4 run by Sam Houston State. The Cougars outscored Sam Houston 17-3 in one finishing stretch and ended the game on a 19-6 run.

That included five straight points from Dyer, including a 3-point play that gave Houston its first second-half lead at 64-63 with 3:28 to go.

Houston won in the first meeting between teams from the same state since 1998, despite shooting only 32 percent and getting outrebounded 44-35. The Cougars also were 8-for-30 from 3-point range but compensated by forcing 29 turnovers.

Joe Thompson had 18 points and Othello Alford added 15 for Sam Houston State, 13-15 last season. Eddie Fobbs had 15 rebounds and seven points for the losers.

The game was marred by 50 fouls and the teams combined to take 61 free throws. Smith was 10-for-11 from the line for Houston.
