Oh MOST DEFINITELY! At this point, I wouldn't drive anything else. I walked away with some scratches and bruises and hurt pride. It could've been a lot worse. My 8 did her job well!
Most accidents put a lot of strain on the neck and its controllers. The pendulum effect does not need to be explained. And to think the Military wants me to wear my Helmet all the time when driving? The damn thing will rip my head off!

If the frame rail is bent, good luck. I forgot that the cost to total an FD these days is minuscule. Saddens me it does...

Addicting, is it not?

Actually, the sunroof did close. I went by yesterday evening to get all my things out of the car and it was beginning to pour rain. I asked for the key so I could close it. (I know, I know....I just couldn't let her get soaked on the inside) The cupholder in the back won't close though and I had a hard time sliding the front one closed again, too. I'm not sure if that's a sign of anything major though.

Wow, dats huge!! yeah, check with Dazy, she got a sweet ride out of her sitch.... still very glad yer ok!!!!!!!!

I was rearended (prev car) in janauary and had to go through physical therapy for 6 months for my neck. My accident didn't have nearly the amount of damage yours did, so I'd suggest seeing the doc ASAP. And don't let them just throw some meds at you, you can get massages and stuff in physical therapy to help ease the pain!!!

I've gotta go up there tomorrow so I'll get a list from them then. What aggravates me is that at 60% the insurance adjuster is notified and HAS to come out - 60% of my value is $16,125 - that's only $1,626 more than my estimate! If the adjuster were to look at he may go ahead and say just total it instead of damage having to be at 75%.

Eeeeerrrrrrrrr..........

Why didn't the adjuster come out again? Is your dealership one of those "preferred" places? You can always tell your insurance company that you want a different place to do the repairs and then choose one that isn't "preferred." The adjuster HAS to come out and evaluate then.

Yep, they are. I've decided that I'm gonna call a couple of other body shops in town tomorrow and have them go by and look at it. That way I'll know whether or not I can get closer to the figure the insurance company needs.

Definitely get some second opinions. Has it been on a lift? More damage is usually found once they hoist the car up. Which leads me to another question:

What if the dealership has ordered all the parts and yada yada yada and <gasp> lo and behold, there was some serious damage that wasn't accounted for in the original estimate!!! When this is figured in, you pass 60%. Are they going to order parts or total the car?

That's exactly what I'm worried about since the estimate is only $1600 off the amount that the insurance requires for an adjuster to go ahead and come out and make a decision. I'm thinking if they've ordered parts and have started working on it and then find that more stuff is needed it's a too bad situation for me. At that point, I wouldn't think they would decide to total it because they've already started working on it. I could be way off on that scenario, but it just seems like they don't want to total it. They'll make money either way - if it's totaled I buy a new one, if not then the insurance pays them so what does it matter to them? The body shop manager even told me today that they KNOW there will be things that they didn't put on the list because they won't find them until they start working on the car!

So frustrating......

I am glad your fine..but oddly is that what I noticed with all the well wishers is not one has asked you, which in my opinion would have striked an obvious concern about the unfortunate accident is, did any of the protective air bag restraints deploy during the impact? I don't want to sound like a dick, just curious what did in fact deploy, if any? thanks in advance, get well

hang in there alwalz8.

Just make sure to have those other body shops look at it asap.

Let your insurance company know that you do not want your vehicle worked on until its had a 2nd opinion.

good luck with everything

Both front airbags deployed, no side curtains or rears. As a matter of fact, the airbag on the passenger side cracked the windshield.

Shari, SO sorry to hear about your 8. As someone whose been in your situation, forget being nice about it to the other insurance company. Additionally, if your insurance company is any good, you can request that they send their adjuster, and maybe they'll total and subrogate the rest. Your insurance company is paid to work for you, so make them work!

When my probe was totaled, It took 2 years to get the settlement, and I still have back and knee problems to this day.
If you want any other advice, or have any questions, don't hesitate to AIM me or email.

Thanks for the advise, Rachel. I appreciate it.

I have State Farm insurance and they won't send an adjuster out unless the estimate total reaches 60% of the car's value because the dealership body shop the car is at is a preferred vendor for them. They say the car is not totaled. I love my car, but I just don't feel like it will ever drive the same after having a bent unibody - that and the possible costs of eating expensive tire after expensive tire because it's not aligned right worries me. The adjuster for the other insurance company went out today and he agrees with the body shop - which, of course, he would. At this point, it's going to be repaired.

I finally got a rental car today..... told 'em I wouldn't drive a Chevy Cobalt or Nissan Sentra.... got a loaded Nissan Maxima instead.

shari the cup holders not closing is a sign the power plant frame or PPF is bent or tweaked. make sure that is included in their estimate. if its bent and any motor mounts need replaced then i would also have them double/triple check the driveshaft. carbon fiber is expensive

Thanks zoom. I have a copy of the estimate at work. I'll definitely check over it tomorrow to see if that's on there.

It's a little aggravating to hear "it's not bad, it just looks bad" from the adjuster AND the body guy. That's MY baby they're talking about and to me it IS bad because she isn't perfect anymore.
