Jedi's Bose Stereo Upgrade!
Some of you might have seen or heard this stereo at SevenStock 9 so here's the official thread on it.
The Mission: to upgrade my Bose stereo to something with better highs and a lot more bass.
Here's what we were installing:
- MP3 cd player from Mazda
- (2) 4080 boxes
- (2) JL 10w6v2's
- Kicker 1200 / 1 amp with remote bass
- Infinity Kappa 6x9's
- (2 pairs) Infinity Kappa 1" tweeters One set up front, and 2nd set for rear deck
- Boss 2 Farad Capacitor
- 50 amp circuit (instead of a traditional fuse)
- Soundgate LOCB.2 Bose Line Output Converter. http://www.logjamelectronics.com/sounlocbosli.html
Step One was to prepare the trunk the week prior with lots of Dynamat
Installation Day
It's all starting to come together....

Nicely done Jedi.
I noticed a significant difference in the Bose sound when I did noise dampening on the doors and trunk. (mostly the trunk as it was a rattle trap above the gas tank).
I like the look of the 4080 boxes but, if I installed them I wouldn't be able to fit my golf clubs in the trunk.

as for the gold clubs i have one 4080 box in mine, gives plenty of thump and when you want to put the golf clubs in the back just take the box out and put it behind the seat. removal of the box is very easy.

If he made it for a 12.... such a tough customer.
Jeremy Clarkson did mention something about golf clubs and the boot.

i think that might be the way i'm going. already have 8" bazooka it better then stock, but i like the tweeters for more range in the sound. like lesper one speaker needed. i don't have golf clubs but i do have a three ball bowling bag. almost as long.

Yeah that was some back breaking work but deffinatly worth it. I'm impressed as to how clean it sounds. The tweeters really off set the deep bass notes. It would have been too much bass with the stock tweeters.

WOW guys, thanks for all the GREAT comments! I'm glad those of you who got to hear it at SS9 really enjoyed it as much as I do on a daily basis. When I started buying all the equipment, I never imagned just how clean this was going to sound. Definitely worth every penny!
Yeah, dynamatting the entire trunk was one hell of a process! It's not all that difficult, just REALLY time consuming. That job took me about 8 hours with the help of a friend.
Your system looks awesome man, don't start having regrets now.
Nope, just hoping I won't need it.
I'll post a pic of the one I used for this install.
I totally forgot to take a picture of it but the thing was massive! It came in this big goofy looking plastic mold so I opened that up and hacked the circuit board so that it would fit where I need it to.
