fuel tank baffle. ugly as hell, but also very over built. need to get more argon--was running out at the end. i'm running two 044's in parallel--one with one way valve like joel's!

btw, is rx8 electronic throttle control something i can mount onto rx7 throttle body just with custom bracket? does it move the same throttle butterfly shaft that tps senses?

You have to use a different accelerator and drill a hole through the firewall to pass the cable. I didn't like this doing modification, too much thought even though is so simple. My accelerator is pretty hard to push and I can't get it softer, oh well at least it works the tb's and the omp.

yea I thought about it and I decided to keep the rx8 electronic drive-by-wire instead of using a throttle cable. I don't have any pic of the rx8 electronic throttle control though. do you have it?

Stick, there's no way you can use it. The RX8 throttle body has a motor built into it which is controlled by the main ecu-and yes becuase of traction control and other crap. You're going to be using a RX7 throttle body-there's no way to build that system onto it. Unless you have everything electrical wise and use the RX8 throttle body-there is someone that has done it but personally I wouldn't do it(although I did think about it alot). There's no need to put yourself through all that crap and headaches. But there's also the chance that the ecu won't let it work right because the original system is missing so many things that it is in limp/safety mode and won't ever open up the throttle body. Hope this helps!

ah okay. thanks for saving me lot of headache! hey are you using mazda TPS or haltech tps? if you're using haltech tps, i was wondering how you made the shaft fit. i think i can just shove it in, but just wondering if you found some more neat way to do it. another weekend! this weekend's goal is to modify tranny so i can have the shifter poking out at the original position. i'll also mount haltech in the cockpit somehow.

Fd tps
I'm using the RX7 throttle body along with the original tps. There's no need to use the haltech one if you have the stock one. The FD has 4wires instead of the more common ones which have three. What you have to do is not wire up the narrow band wire, leaving the positive, negative, and the 5volt.

ok it's wayyy too cold. 12*F! shall continue next wknd
in the meanwhile, could someone let me know how you connect positive end & negative end of the battery to the fuse box (or anywhere)? i have the 120AMP main fuse connected. it looks like the two bolts holding on the main fuse are both going to ground. I can't figure out where to connect the positive end of the battery.
thanks again.

hey patrick, since your mailbox is full... i wanted to ask whether you wanted to trade anything? i have rebuilt TII tranny i'm not going to use if you're interesterd. if not, i'd be intersted in the mazdaspeed seats, but only if you include everything that you can't sell to other people with the sale (some of which i probably need) lmk.
i may just drive down one weekend with a friend to pick up everything if that would make it easier for ya or ideally meet in the middle? i think you're about 8hrs away from the west PA. thanks!

does the picture look right? please ignore the red cable. i'm thinking that those two nuts are BOTH going to ground. and that upper fuse-type box is where the battery positive lead connects..
can someone confirm for me please?

thanks guys.
so are both bolts positive leads? this is bad news. when i connected one of the bolts to my daily driver car's battery by jumper cable and turned the rx8 ignition key, nothing lighted in my dash. i have the main ECU hooked up in the ecu box, but that's about it.
if someone can describe the simple circuit (for the rx8) between battery, fuse box, and the ignition key so i can at least get some light to appear in my dash, that'd make my week
thanks as always.

Correct. Due to my situation I can't tell specifically where they're coming from as my temp battery location down in front of the engine has the harnesses all squashed in together. I don't have the time to disassemble it right now. The wiring diagrams depict all this if you can get someone with that skill to assist you. I don't have them available to me at the moment.

k i think i can at least navigate through the electrical diagrams now. looked at most of the pages, and turns out there's another fuse box located near hood opener & bunch of connectors near there that controls the dash. i'll check that today. if that's not completely mangled, i still can't understand why the dash isn't powering up...

Sorry if I am stating the Bloody Obvious, but you know there is also a fuse Block (X-02) inside on the Left front Kick Plate...by Drivers side door?..
And yes, Alternator has to be connected, there are two main supply leads to main under bonnet Fuse/Relay block as Todd pointed out, one I am sure comes from the Alternator.

I'll try to take some pictures of the stock wiring for you. remember that you also have to connect the 2wire plug that goes to the alternator from the stock engine harness.

ok that driver side fuse box seems untouched. all fuses are in place. but behind it, there had been some splicing done. i think it was done by my car alarm guys long time ago. maybe scott pulled out my alarm and left some things unconnected. nothing seems disconnected visually. i'm going to buy a new red top optima this afternoon and try this again. maybe using jumper cable is the issue... err i don't know.
what's the worst in all this is, i don't know scott had done. most are unfinished. some are completely missing. i have to figure out what he did and fix it. if car was working and i took things out one by one, this would be a completely different story. errr anyway.... i do enjoy learning, so please feel free to advise at your convenience thanks all!

more i read the wiring diagram, it seems like once i connect the main fuse box to positive end of the battery, SOME things should work without having alternator, starter, and ecu connected... like emergency lights, trunk opener, etc. nothing's working, so i'm guessing my jumper cable is bad or doesn't allow enough current for the fuse box... err it's a far shot, but i'm buying a new battery and will put it in and report.

Based on my discussion with a MoTeC distributor a lot of that stuff operates on the CAN system so based on that I'd say no, not without an ECU at a minimum
the other fuse box is behind the kick panel on the left side wall in the drivers side foot well
.

go to page 5 in the document I sent you. This is the overview wiring schematic. There are three main wires from the battery positive terminal; the 120A engine bay fuse box connection, the 60A radiator cooling fans, and the starter power supply
given your situation it would be better to go ahead and purchase the RX-8 Wiring Diagram Service Manual. It will be much more convenient and complete/updated than that PDF document

nobody had optima battery for my car, so i just ordered one online.
but i had to do something before the weekend was over. decided to do the shifter relocation--pics attached. will fill the whole box with a can of grease next week.
also ordered mazdatrix short shifter since the one i have has a busted boot. tranny should be installed next week. still waiting for higher grade bolts for the mounts. shops here only have 8.8 (equivalent to grade 5)
