After yesterday man......this cobb with MM tune is worth every penny and those 11 biz days. Just off the base map alone you can feel the change in your car -- now im on 4.0.1 and you can feel the change just that much more.

I previously purchased the MM cobb but never got a chance to tune it cause it takes so long but after the new live tuning sessions its a cake walk!

I would recommend this to ANYONE as its now 20x easier! After the easy live tune this is becoming my favorite mod!

Yeah, 100% agree. I went from 4.0.2 to 4.0.3 last night, and I can still feel the difference. It's not as sharp as 4.0.0 to 4.0.1, but you can still feel it.

Yea man and from what i read a few posts up is that going from 4.0.4-4.0.5 is the best one.

V 0_1 felt subtle improvements but nothing to be overly exuberant about. Then followed V 0_2, 3 & 4 again improvements in acceleration and bottom end torque but still felt maybe I was missing out on something........... again nothing to be crazily impressed about. Well let me tell you V 0_5 feels like a totally different animal and can't begin to convey in how much of a difference and how different this car feels. Jeff has indicated to me that one more version till the tune is spot on! Anybody considering Jeff's tune don't hesitate probably if not the best mod you can get for you car in a NA application..............can't imagine Jeff's tune in a FI set up! Thanks Jeff again !!!

Yeah Jaun.... V 5 is where I noticed the big difference, blown away with throttle response and really can feel the car pull much better through shift changes , torq definitely improved in 3 Rd starting in around 4000 rpm she pulls and feels great! I'm sure it's different in everyone's cal but I believe it's not until around your 5 th version where you'll notice the bigger changes. Enjoy it only gets better!

Hey guys,

I just received version 5 on tuesdsay as well and the car runs awesome.

I have one question though regarding the custom tunes. I always try to fill the car up with Shell 91 octane, would I see any minor improvements in performance (hp, fuel economy) by switching to Sunoco 94 octane?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I was just curious.

Thanks,

Simon

If you are in North America, there will be no increase in performance with 94 (RON+MON/2).
If you are in Europe, where 91 (RON) octane is the equivalent to North American 86 (RON+MON/2), 94 (RON) at a minimum is advised as 96 (RON) is actually the recommended fuel.

95Ron is the minimum recommended fuel, there's a night and day difference with the 100 octane blends.

So what about the people who want to tune their access ports themselves.... i'm having trouble locating the appropriate software...
I want the PRO version, not the joe shmoe "RACE" version. any thoughts MM?

cobbtuning.com appears to be temporarily down... my answers are probably there, so lets hope their website comes back up soon.

You would have to contact Gary Sheehan at Cobb.
I don't think they are offering PRO licenses for the RX-8 application (since I have the exclusive on the hardware now), but you can check.
You have to be approved through their training program and pay the $1500 license first in any event.

The Pro version offers very little over Race. Just half-broken baro tables, and the ability to do customer tunes. Basically the same software.

Uh, not quite.
There are quite a few models that are not supported in the RACE version.
There are also a few tables in the PRO version that weren't incorporated into the RACE version before development was discontinued.

"Half-broken" BARO tables? They are fully functional last I checked!

so i take it you went through their training program, and paid the 1500. is the training program online based, or will i be need to book a plane ticket?

What models exactly, if these are not features i need, then i'll stick to the race version, is there any kinda pro/cons list? or feature listed one vs the other.

Thanks again.

Have you ever read the bible? You know that part in Genesis where there is all this water and dirt and sky separation thing going on?
Well, yeah. I have the pics and the t-shirt.

Well, lemme ask you this: What model are you intending to tune and have you done any OE flash tuning yet on any car?

Cobb's thing is that they "approve" their dealer and PROTuner network. They don't "train" them. You need to already know what you are doing before you get to them.
Their "training" guys (like Christian K.) are pretty ruthless when you start asking dumb questions.

an 04 m/t, stock, then w/ n/a upgrades, then with turbo+upgrades.
and have you done any OE flash tuning yet on any car?
OE flash? well..no... tuning yes, 2 microtechs, and my own person rtek7(kinda like the cobb, but pretty limited, but it is 80s OEM kinda hardware.)

what about ASE L1/L2 certifications? i mean as part of my companys store front people see the ASE blue seal and have no problem letting me in there car's pants... it's like i have a PHD in automotive mechanics in their eyes.... but most mechanic's know passing an ASE test is more about studing for it, then knowing exactly what you're doing. but it does prove you have a brain, and you're not a fresh out of high school kid "building engines".

I really think you're spoiled, with you're fancy AFR target tables. the Rtek pretty much adjusts like a SAFC, by percentage. but AFR's aren't the hard part. i know you've done serval turbo setups, which are by far more likely to let loose with just a little timing off. N/a rotarys are NOT a challange to tune.

I'm sure side exhaust ports change the rules of the game when it comes to EGT's a little bit, but not really worried about having to do a rebuild... more of an excuse to try out new port designs.

NOW... what the **** is the diffrence between PRO and RACE?

Why am i getting so much resistance to getting my hands on the right software? Do you, for some reason, think the 1-3 rx-8s i will turbo and tune per year is really going to have that big of in impact on your sales? i'm buying blown rx8's.. building/turboing them to 350-400, and resaling them on a luxary car lot... really? 1-3 is going to be on the HIGH side.

i'm really starting to hate this whole forum.. it was like the first rx8 owner i ask'd about his car, he wasn't interesting in turboing his at all.. no he wanted to know if i had a ******* 4 ROTOR in my shop i could swap in for him. i'm like, are you a ******* retard? NO one, ESP not in mobile alabama, builds decent rotary engines.... let alone a 4 or even 3 rotor.
