Cobb AccessPORT Discussion

This map brings the AFR much closer. I didn't need to change the fuel trim, it was dead on with the 1c_0 map.
I have an '05 Rx-8 GT 6spd with ~13k miles. It was manufactured in August '04
Mods: Only mod at all is a K&N drop in filter replacement in the stock airbox.
I think I am still a little lean. AFR mostly remained between 13.3 and 14.0 at WOT. At the highest it looked like it dropped down to 13.0 briefly, but I never saw any reading in the 12s except one spurious reading that I think was throttle tip-in.
To try to eliminate any question of a mechanical problem with my car I did check the AFR with the Cobb stock style map. With this map the AFR remained in the 12s almost all the time at WOT. So I don't think I have a mechanical problem, just an oddball car.
OK, time to put in a nice word for MM. When I ran the Cobb stage1 map my AFR went well over 15 at WOT. If that map was all I had this unit would be pretty worthless to me. I'm glad I purchased it from MM since he is providing the additional maps able to tune cars like mine.
I'll send an email almost exactly like this note.
Thanks

Has anyone tested the anti theft Cobb map yet? I'm going to leave my car at the airport, and might flash this while it's parked. Whats it do? Does it just limit the RPM to 300? LOL that would be funny watching a guy trying to get away from the police.

MM, question. At the last autocross I attended, the Interceptor's ability to be tuned specifically for 87 octane was brought up. Now, I realize that as the AccessPort simply modifies the parameters of factory pcm, it can adjust timing to compensate for the lower octane fuel like the car would stock, but can the AccessPort be tuned specifically to "make the most" of 87 octane? Separately the slight mpg gain from tuning, or ability to use 87 doesn't make much of a difference money-wise, but if you can gain a few mpg and use 87, that starts to really add up.

Hehe, nice feature. Below ~500 and it won't even stay running anyways

Now, it is true that more power can be made using the lowest octane possible.
But remember that the Renesis is a point higher in static compression, so you need to raise the minimum octane requirement 1.5 - 2 AKI just for that reason alone over previous rotaries.
Anti-Theft mode restricts the RPM limit and idle to 100. The car wont even start. Works pretty damn well.
However, I'd crank the wheel full right and club it since most thefts these days are tow-offs.

From what I understood, it could be tuned specifically to make the most power from 87 octane? Whereas the AccessPort would be tuned for 91-93, and would pull timing to keep the car running properly with lower octane. Maybe I'm missing something?

The tuning I do to the mid-range and cruise mode saves WAY more money than switching to crappy gas. I've seen 50% or better improvement in MPG under some conditions.

I wonder if the anti-theft mode could cause flooding? Not like that would be worse then having it stolen, though.

it's the same physical car being controlled. With the interceptor, it's taking control away from the factory pcm and modifying fuel/ignition, and letting it control the rest. With the accessport, we tell the pcm what to do directly, one less system in the mix. There's no magic here. But one is estimating air flow, the other has a fairly accurate measurement of it, and has much more granular control.

ECU Reset?
Does performing an ECU reset with the AccessPORT actually reset the ECU?
I reset my ECU and started my car. Everything was going well until it went into closed loop when it started hunting again. I looked at the STFT on the AP and it was -23% then I went to the LTFT and it was +19%. That tells me that the ECU reset didn't clear the trims. Do you actually have to reflash the car to get the AP to clear the trims?

They are both almost dead on. If the AP reads 13.8 my wideband will read 13.8 within a split second. Then the AP will read 15.0 and my wideband will read 15.1. The LTFT is +17 and the STFT went from -10 to -25 as the car hunted for the proper AFR.

Makes sense, though you are now running lean under load because the MAF is reading true, but lower, values.
#2599
Either way.
I'd start on "0", but you can go straight for the "2a". Just look at the STFT right away.
If you start with "2a" and the STFT is -4, you should be on "0".
