Hi MM, based on your experience, I would like to know whats the best intake for a stock NA rx8 6spd? (with exception of a mazdaspeed cat-back for now)

Will there be much difference of a modded airbox + K&N against a mazdaspeed intake? I am trying to justify the 3xx bucks ... and I am worry about losing low end torque.

Thanks!

One quart in 2400 miles is a good bit of oil.
That is pretty much what I am shooting for in "normal" driving.

I use about a quart every 1000 miles the way I have mine set up, but I beat on it and spend a fair amount of time in load ranges that are unobtainable in an NA car.

I was trying to break the car in with the factory map...but jeebus cheeba I forgot how huge the dips are...how much fuel was being dumped...and how little lube it ate...

MM_maps for teh smoothness win...

That and better fuel consumption...

And cooling...

And lubing...

PS: New trans feels completely different...funny how well they work with non-worn out syncros...haa

Hi Jeff. I sent you my logs from your revised map you sent me. Seems like it's still rich. It's better but still under 12.0. I didn't include an intake mass air flow reading. Do you want me to do some more data logging and send you another file for you to create a 3rd update?

I'm pretty sure my mileage went up. 16.9 mpg, and I was driving it considerably harder.
gas mileage still = the pits

I'm hoping the CAT does burn out fast with the AP, those things are expensive :P What exactly would happen then?

Curious about this as well, I picked up the RP for this reason thinking it should hold up better...

So I'll spend $1000 thinking it's a compression problem? Great :P

Wish I could do friggin exhaust installation myself so I could just put on a catless pipe and don't care about the emissions checkups biyearly. No garage though

I can't vouch for the longevity of any CAT.
You will have to decide on your own what will and will not work.
I don't use a CAT and the AP is set up to run without regard for the CAT and deletes its reporting from the emissions system.
You may get tens of thousands of miles out of the OE or an aftermarket CAT.

yeah, seems to be a crap shoot with the Cats. My stock cat was taken off at about 40,000 miles and from what I can tell it was perfectly fine.
RP supercat is on there now. so far so good

No I guess most people remove it anyway, but it's a bit of a hassle over here since the car is an import as well.

If the car starts running like **** I reckon I can uninstall the AP and they'll see in a service the CEL and that it is the cat. At least that's what I'm assuming

But the car only has 19300 kms on it, the cat should be fairly early in it's life. Never know though :P

Kind of off topic, but I might be able to help with that request. Mine is off and has over 30K on it.

Just checking into see if there has been any talk lately of COBB getting closer to knowing when the release of the European Version will be?

I'm trapped in a kind of weird negotiation with them.
They have some concerns about how they will handle taxation, warranty and their already present European distributor network.
Never mind that I've already got the device sorted.

There are, apparently, several units already in the EU getting tested.
I've sent a few to Europe myself, but they've been imported North American models.
I'm not really in a position to foot the bill for an experiment. I've had a few offers from some EU forum members to be "test mules", but the offer invariable includes my picking up the tab, which I simply don't have enough incentive to tackle.
I would have to see absolute interest from at least a dozen or more EU owners to take that risk.

So, for the moment, EU support is just like Asian support which is just like '08 support - in a holding pattern.
