Cobb AccessPORT Discussion
#4151
The AP for Euro/Jap support is still out of my hands and Cobb has been unresponsive to me on that. Its frustrating.
That said, I have no access to any "speed limiter" in my software, so I don't know if that feature will be available when they make the calibration library fit the Euro/Jap PCMs.
They want the Euro/Jap distro channel to handle the sale of hardware, limiting me to software only.
However, I have sold several units in those markets, but they were NorAm spec PCMs, so I don't have any better data.
I'm working on having a few "spare" APs around to ship for experimentation (an expensive experiment at that) if Cobb fails me on support for those markets.
EDIT:
I just sent another pestering e-mail. Lets see if I get a response.

MM firstly let me say thanks for looking out for us non "NorAm" model owners, I hope my posts haven't come across as having a go at you. I just wish Cobb would come out and put everyone out of their misery with a definative answer.
Cheers

Sorry for the delays, guys.
Besides all of the points brought up here by my AZ brethren, I am also trapped in the middle of a complete redux of my entire calibration library that was necessitated by the recent release of the RACE version of the software.
As you can imagine, 1100 calibrations that need to be essentially re-worked by hand is kicking my *** and my responsibility to all of you to NOT blow up your car is not insignificant.
The newest firmware basically trashed my library, so I am starting over for the most part.

How do we check if we have the RACE version of the firmware or not?
I just updated the firmware with the firmware update tool (not the RACE stuff)
and I have
1.2.8.1-7013
would we get an error if we try to use your maps?

just to clarify....this race version that we are talking about...its that tuner software that was released...right?
I did the same as Daemos as well.....updated it thru the update tool......but I did install that race tuner software just because I was curious about it and you have to plug in the AP when you install it....so did I fubar it?
edit: I have the same version as Daemos as well

^I have the calibrations from when I first ordered the ap a month or so ago (8/19)
I didn't get any new ones, that's what I am trying to say...the dates of the maps are from 2006

2006? Think about that for a minute.*
BTW - Why would you download and install the RACE tuner knowing full well that you can't change my calibrations with it?
Are you going to tune it yourself from scratch?
If so, why are you worried about my calibrations?
You can't do it both ways.
*The AP has only been available since March of 2008.

Also - the first release of Accesstuner RACE will brick your PCM.
Download the newest version.

AccessTUNER Race Users,
Maps generated with the original Beta RX-8 AccessTUNER Race software have the ability to disable the ECU. We have made revisions to this software to correct this potential issue. Please download the latest version of the RX-8 AccessTUNER Race software from the previous links provided.
Sincerely,
COBB Tuning

edit: I know when the accessport was available, the file dates on your calibrations are from 2006 as it shows in the ap manager...sorry I'm confused here.

Along with everyone else, I'll say best of luck sorting through everything MM. It sounds like they left you with quite a job when they redid everything. Just for clarification, how would I request turbo maps instead of NA now that I am going FI. I have a queued NA map request, but as I'm getting Ray to install a turbo next month it seems kind of silly to spend your time tweaking a tune I will use for less than a month.
As with everyone else, I would be more than happy to help if there is anything I can do.

I understand the nature of MazdaManaic's tuning arrangment in terms of it being time based. So far, I don't see a single person being cut off from calibrations and I can asure you that you won't find yourself in a jam and being told "thanks for the fish" instead of being helped.
Those of you who have sent those "angry" emails need to take a chill moment. You are ALL getting personalized tuning services and NOT being forced to use generic maps like those produced by COBB. Personal tuning costs upwards of $250 per hour from experienced shops. Everyone who purchased the AP did so at the standard retail cost with NO added costs for tuning. MazdaManiac provides this service as part of the purchase from him at no additional cost to the customer.
Simply put, you're getting it for free. You're more than capable of paying another COBB certified shop for accessport tuning but I doubt you'll get the level of attention and service that you get from MazdaManiac. He's one guy with 24 hours in a day.
Some say he doesn't sleep and that he's the result of a secret CIA experiment.
On the other hand, I think some might not appreciate the complex nature of how tuning is done. If you're seriously interested in tuning the car yourself..I'd check out the following threads:
So you want to be a tuner?
Power adders for dummies
If you don't understand basic concepts such as Air/Fuel ratio, VOLUMETRIC EFFICIENCY, ignition timing, detonation, compression, stoichiometry etc. then please do some reading.
Also, if you have NO means of datalogging other than the AP I would highly suggest investing into a device that does. I've used the MSD dashhawk with great success to provide detiled logs of AFR, Load and RPM data. These logs will greatly reduce the number of calibrations you will have to try to get your car running right.

I've sent several emails, none of which have been responded to heh. I figure he gets about as much email as the president, so he probably only gets the emails specifically for tuning, hence my question about how I should ask for FI base maps. I will try sending another email to the AP email...
