Jeff
Question Jeff, I'm looking into the esmeril and your upgrade kit for a turbo. I was woundering if I could use the cobb unit for these or any FI upgrade? Also what oil should be used?Any suggestions are always appriciated.

I can't stop looking at your avator! I use AGIP synthetic oil I was just woundering if you thought that was the best. I know the Cobb is good for any aplication including NA but I haven't see any other FI units using it but your kit. I know there was talk about using it with the pettit unit.

There are examples of just about every FI system out there with the AccessPORT installed.

lol.
Firstly, of course it will work with his turbo kit. The Esmeril kit on the other hand would need some tweaks for it to use the AP, but I do believe it has been done before. In fact, my advice for the Esmeril kit at this point would be to figure out exactly what you would need to do to the piping to get the AP to work with it. Int-X is old news at this point, and Mazsport is dead too. AP does some nice things aside from the fuel management that make it worth the extra effort to make your turbo system compatible with it.
But all in all, I gotta agree with MM, lotttts of reading for you to do.

Its always good to agree with MM!!! Lol
Thanks GaMEChld, I do remember the PM you sent me! I just wanted MM views on things and since his PM box is full this was the only way to ask. I will be ordering the Cobb in the summer MM and I just didn't want to have to buy another EMU device when I go FI. Are we going to see and upgraded version of the BHR/MM kit soon and plots in the dyno thread?

Not sure if it is the new beta firmware or what but when I did a 3d gear dyno run (2000 rpms to 8300 rpms) this morning on the way to work this is what I got.
205.18hp @7894 rpms
147.10tq @5890 rpms
Hopefully when I take my 8 to a real dyno I will get similar results!

I got an e-mail from Scott at Cobb saying there was some sort of production delay and that my previous standing order was delayed until the end of this week.
I got a shipping confirmation from UPS, but it didn't have a delivery date, which could mean its over-night, but I don't know for sure.
In any event, I will ship as soon as I get this order in hand - either later today (Friday) or on Monday.
Sorry about the delay.

Think I may go ahead and order once I get paid for a job I did. Quick question though. I've seen people mount the AP in their car's, like near the vent above the radio. Is that mount an option you offer, or does it come with the AP? Or is it some 3rd party gear? I figure if I've got an AP, I might as well use to it monitor a few things.

I updated my accessport unit yesterday. Today I connected it on my rx8 it updated the dongle. I saw an addition of a submenu named dynometer. I selected it but it gave me an error message that my vehicle is not supported and I need to contact Cobb.
What gives???

So I got my AP back from Cobb.
It didn't have any maps that were there before I sent it in.
I went to Uninstall the AP (since it was installed in the car when it failed) and it said the "factory ECU data was not found/corrupt" but it still gave me an option to continue... it flashed something but I'm not sure what...
I was looking for a CEL to come on for the midpipe or the fact I am completely missing my rear 02 sensor... but none.
Any ideas?

I'm sure MazdaManiac has seen this, but it's gotta start some crazy ****.

Jeff, what do you think about all this???
My problem is less with the "do we know this guy?" factor and more with the fact that MM has gone to great pains to work with Cobb to enable AP-based datalogging, as well as outright confidence in the system.
What Bryce (Fluidmotorsports) is doing could be considered either brilliant business tactics, or really pretty underhanded and shitty. He's profiting from all the work MM put in to establish trust in the system, not to mention the system itself.
Given Fluid's questionable relationship with Mazsport (there was a huge thread on it, but I believe it was deleted), this is REALLY really troubling to me. This is the second time that he's started a business practice that may be legitimate on the surface, but seems really underhanded and wrong after a closer look.

^uhh its a free market man...fluid can do whatever he wants with services provided for the rx8...also Jeff doesn't have to be the only person out there that is allowed to tune for the accessport. That just doesn't make sense. Just because Jeff has dealings with cobb, doesn't mean another tuner can't tune. There are others out there btw. I'm not going to get drawn into a pissing match, but I think your logic is a bit flawed. If it's really troubling you, don't participate in it. It is your choice.

It's true that MazdaManiac was the one who worked directly with COBB to get the software ironed out and is responsible for some of the features we have today.
The one theme I've noticed is people are very curious who the man behind the curtain is. If I was handing my tunes over to someone I would want to know who they are and what their experience is with the Renesis before hand. MazdaManiac has a well documented history of experience with this car as his technical information is spread all over this website. The sticky threads on tuning have major contributions from him as well.
I'd also be curious as to what kind of support you get after your tune is complete. Do you have to pay another $300 if you get a new mod and need to re-tune? If the tunes are locked (which I'm sure they will be) then needing changes could become a rather expensive process.
I'm sure all the details will come out soon. It's just important to ask these questions no matter who the vendor it.
I wish Fluid all the luck with their tuning.
lol Brice!
