Does it matter if maps are tunned in 2008 or in 2010 for the same car with same setup other than changes due to aging? Will it be beneficial to get a "re"-tune by Jeff 2 years after he custom tuned it in person?

I am too lazy / dumb / chicken / above 3 to try learn the tuning by myself, however, I do believe once Jeff tuned your car and its "COMPLETED" it is DONE...unless I am wrong.

I would like to know the answer since I may have a chance to join the "2010 Canuk MazdaManic All You Can Eat Tuning Party" with all of Jeff's chicks in his avatar!

Thanks and have a great day!!!
In general you only need to retune your RX8 if you have made any changes to your airflow or fueling. Even then with an NA car you do not need to be as picky as with an FI car. Even slight changes with an FI car will require retuning to ensure safety and performance.

If the "stage 1 NA tune" you are referring to is the COBB tune please for the love of god do not use it. It's an off the shelf tune that tends to cause lean fuel delivery in the majority of RX8's that have tried it with only a few that it works well on. Due to the variations of Rensis output and performance we can't afford to use off the shelf tunes like the speed3 or speed6 can.

Jeff's custom calibrations are the best way to go and if he said you were done then you were done. Unless you've had any major changes to the car you're in good shape.

Thanks for the answer folks. Yeah I did got his custom tune by himself back in 2008...was thinking he gained 5hp himself in tuning skills for the rx8 in the past 2 years lolz

Anyone knows any where or any way to get a stock style map (JDM) with speed cut removal (nothing else needed)? Thanks

BREAKING NEWS

Cobb has announced that they are discontinuing ALL normally-aspirated applications for the AccessPORT.

This means the AccessPORTs for the RX-8 will cease to be available for new purchase by the END OF JULY, 2010.

If you intend to purchase the AccessPORT for the RX-8, you must do so by July 30th, 2010.
After that, there will be no new AccessPORTs for the RX-8 available.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience. No one is more shocked (or adversely affected) by this decision than me, but they are quite firm in this decision.

They are discontinuing all of the following models:
Honda Civic Si (AP-HON-001), Mazda RX-8 (AP-MAZ-001), Infiniti G35 & G37/Nissan 350Z & 370Z (AP-NIS-001, AP-NIS-002, AP-NIS-003, and AP-NIS-004) and Subaru 2.5i (AP-SUB-005)

I will continue to support the RX-8 AccessPORT and provide calibration services for current and future RX-8 AccessPORT owners, but I will NOT be able to acquire new AccessPORT hardware after July, 2010.

Any current orders will be fulfilled (and will probably be shipped before the end of this week (July 9th, 2010), so if you have recently ordered an AccessPORT from me, you are still OK.

Please spread this news as you see fit.

Wow..............that seems like a silly decision on their part they have the demand for it and its not like they update their software all the time what extra effort really goes into making the AP for an rx-8 at this point isnt it just you demand we supply.... Time to start working on your own flashing device Jeff.....

the devices are all the same. it's only the rom software that is different, i don't see how this could be them just trying to save costs on producing the damn things.

it's gotta be something else.. manufactures pressing down on them for reverse engineering the ecus in the first place?

Why NA applications only? Do they not see value in that market? And why stop making hardware for existing models? I can understand not investing in upgrades and improvements but why stop making something that currently works and makes money for them?

My Accessport goes on sale for $5K on August 1st.

Cobb only supports FI applications that are OEM.

The RX-8 is not. They only supported the RX8 naturally aspirated.

So no, they will no longer sell Accessports that can flash the RX8 at all.

A new one? No.
Just follow the Cobb warranty process and they'll fix it.

Ordered yesterday and got my conformation e-mail

Question: currently only have an AEM cold air intake that will be accounted for in the custom tune. If I get a header-back catless exhaust and the BHR ignition upgrade afterwards, would it be worth it to get a retune?

To quote Jeff, anything exhaust/ignition related will not benefit from a re-tune. However I guess you could request for the dwell to be adjusted for the BHR ignition.

I've heard minor gains can be had from a a retune as far as the ignition goes, just wasn't sure about the exhaust. I know the intake will definitely benefit from a custom tune. Can't wait for it to get here. I'm staying naturally aspirated so the less retunes I need the better.

This eases my mind about rushing to get a hi-flow cat and exhaust, thanks.

Okay guys, I just picked up my AP (second hand but not really used). I am going to order the MM service next payday. From what I have read I shouldn't even bother loading the stage 1 right? I am running the stock intake but I have other mods.

From what I remember, it's not worth putting anything on aside from a tune specifically for your car or the tune used for logging... though maybe it's different as it's been a while since I went through the tuning process.

Gotcha, that's pretty much what I read on the Cobb forums. Good thing there is three pay days this month

Stuck while uninstalling!

Hey folks. Quick question. I am in the process of uninstalling my AP and it seems to be hung up during the part "resetting learned parameters." Not sure what to do here. Is it okay to just unplug it?

Well I pulled it out after waiting for about 5 minutes and everything seems fine. I guess as long as it finishes the flash you're good to go.
