FYI: Prior Racing Beat Flash User

Just as an FYI...

I have reason to believe that having Racing Beat Flash turns your Federal emissions PCM into California emissions.

Non-Cali AP (AccessPort) maps will not install on your AP if this is the case.

Not a problem for me. I happen to like the RB Flash. My primary reason for buying the AccessPort is to keep the RB Flash as a stock profile. The Cobb and MM maps are very welcome bonuses. Both dealers I work with tells me their diagnostics are set up for an auto reflash whenever they hook up their machine to the car.

Just posting an FYI for anyone who happens to be in a similar position. It was not meant to be a "Oh no! What should I do?"

I'm not sure that Cobb and MM have different map tables for Fed and Cali, apart from some sort of digital signature.

I have a question about my AFRs when I shift. I have an NA, MT and my AFRs are in the 11s and 12s (1st thru 3rd at WOT), which is great, except when I shift. When I shift from 1st to 2d it will drop to 10.5 and then bounce right back to 11s and when I shift from 2d to 3d it will dip to 10.8ish and bounce back up (sorry no exact numbers, I don't have a data logger).

Is anyone else seeing this or do I need to get with Jeff to fix?

Remember the delay from the reading; latency.

If you are depressing the clutch; and then letting a bit off the gas; you can see a bit of richness prior to reloading the engine. But the gauge is also running behind the engine by a bit - so that richness could be from the very end of your previous gear run up. I wouldn't worry about it if your WOT runs are good and long (Like 5 sec pull; if your AFR stabilizes then that is likely the REAL AFR as opposed to a blip on the screen.

@MazdaManiac
I sent you a pm last week and never heard back. You pm box is probably pretty full from map request and such, and you seem to be active on this thread so I thought I repost my question.

I'm planning on buying the AP and I'm on the list for the So-Cal Dyno day the 26th.

Would it make a big difference if I bought it now and used it before the dyno day, or can I just install it on that day?
I have the OBDScan tool from Harrison R&D.
If it's just a matter of getting you the #'s, I can print charts and get any #'s you need from that tool.
If I need to flash now and let the car settle, I'll order the AP now, if not, I'll just reserve one for the Dyno day.

MM
I've been trying various ways to contact you.
Looking to send you money
Making a payment through Paypal isn't working.
Let me know where I can send you a cheque/Bank draft and you can send me a unit once it clears.

Any one else having a Paypal problem for this?

just so you know, the obdscan one requires use of a laptop. the efidude one records the data and then you download it onto a computer and view it. downside is you dont get to view it real time, but no laptop required.

Kinda hard to drive and read a laptop.

Keep your eyes on the road. Examine the results after the fact.

The problem with data logging WOT is that you need to watch the AFR....

yeah, you can always have a passenger checking to make sure you're good and telling you the data.

Actually, the RB flash changes the header on the PCM file, making it not flashable by the AccessPORT.
Until today, that is.
Cobb just sent me a firmware update for that.
If anyone has the Racing Beat flash, let me know and I'll send you the updated firmware next week.

I can no longer keep up with PMs here.

If you definately want one, you should order it in advance.
The few I am bringing to CA will be gone almost immediately.

Interesting... I was able to flash w/ Cobb's stage 1 (at least the AP said so), although I don't know if it really worked. Cobb's stage 1 and RB behavior feels the same, the only difference being that I don't hear the rev limit warning beep anymore.

I've been getting sporadic ECU communication failure. I wonder if RB's modified header has something to do with that. Not sure...

MM,

I want to get the EFIDude so I can log data. This is the cheapest and simplest one I can find for $150. The whole point in me getting it would be to make it easier for you to come up with maps for me. If it makes your job easier and gets me more accurate maps I can buy it. If not then I won't. Let me know.

I have a question, if I buy the AP from MM, For my n/a 8 and download his maps, then next year maybe sooner when I go turbo can I still download the turbo maps or would I have to buy the turbo maps?
