Have you considered a numerically lower rear axle ratio? This would make 1st gear useful and 6th a true freeway cruising gear.

I'm actually increasing spending My wife is getting a little upset, I may have to get a side job to pay for all my Mods. Even though we have plenty of disposable income she won't let me touch it. The only thing I can use is my yearly bonus and that's running out fast

In one month I bought lightweight flywheel, hd clutch, mazsport ignition, hks legamax, mazdamaniac gt3071r turbo, street tuning, dyno tuning, and a few other things. So dropping 4-5k in a month is the price range I'm speaking of. But I've only dropped that kind of coin in a month twice - back in Jan this year, and back when I originally bought the greddy turbo kit. Between that time it's been smaller nibbles.

I drove it around a little more.. Im on 5b now

and my LTFT is at -3

STFT is at -0 and -1

Now one thing ive been noticing is that in first gear at full throttle my AFR is at like 14.1 but after 5500 RPM it is 12.1

2nd gear is the same only it'a 13.1

3rd gear is the same but its 12.9

and soo on

but what troubling me is that as soon as it reaches 6500 RPM the AFR's are 11.1 is that normal? i am getting a lot of exhaust popping well not that much but a bit more

Your AFR at 5.5K WOT look good to me. After 6.6K it looks rich. That can be fixed with his stage 2 maps I beleive. I had the same situation before when I was on his 1b series of maps. Just wait till he gets back.

Question

I know this question has been asked before I just can't remember the answer and I really don't want to read through this whole thread again.

I'm on 1_2a if I reflash to stock (going to the dealer), when I install the AP again do I go back to 1_2a? Would the #'s I'm seeing now stay the same when I flash it back to 1_2a? Or do I need to start from scratch again?

at full throttle after 5500 RPM your AFR should be around 11 to 13. just make sure it doesnt go near 14 near redline...that wont be good...

i get 11's and 12's once im above 5500 RPMs at full throttle, i think its normal for the stage 1 map.

get your AFRs to atleast mid 12s....
The whole idea is to get your AFRs to where they are supposed to be which isn't pig rich. I think Stage 2 is supposed to be a little leaner, but stages generally refer to how aggressive the ignition timing is.

I have read where people say 12.5's-14's are what you should run, isn't that a little rich? Are they just being extra safe?

I thought 11-12 was good, or is that only in turbo applications?

generally speaking:

for cruising, 14-16 afr is acceptable na and fi.

for WOT, I would aim for 13 na, and 11 fi.

higher numbers = lean.
lower numbers = rich.

12.5 is a safe target for N/A

FI needs to be richer so they generally shoot for 10.8 for max safety

Ah thanks that clears it up for me.

What is a max safe lean? The leaner you can run it safely the more power correct?

Yeah, leaner will make more power along with timing.

max safe lean for a turbo is around 11.5.-12.0 on very good and consistent 93 octane gas.

max safe lean for a N/A with good 93 octane is probably 13.0s but MM said he tried that and it didn't make any more power than 12.5 so it wasn't worth it to try.

As per Scott, for cruising in the rx8, its best to tune for 14.7 or below since we don't have long term data on tuning for 15.5+ on this engine.
