I JUST mentioned in another thread having an idea on what to do with a couple V2 and V3 BHR radiators I have laying around. Turning them into Beer Chargers. Instantaneous beer chillers that use CO2 or nitrous through intercooler spraybars mounted to the rad core. Who says BHR builds useless stuff?![Lol2](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/lol2.gif)

I don't mean to derail the fun but I have a technical question. :P
Why is it that on some cars, the standard NA maps run the car rich above 5krpm?
Is this allowed to be explained without giving away secrets? The way I understood this stuff worked was that you more-or-less tell the ecu to shoot for a target lambda and it uses the fuel trims to get there.
Side note: I had my car driving around with the AP uninstalled yesterday and the CEL never came on with the catless midpipe. Non-functioning codes scare me.

You need to meet a few requirements before the car triggers the cel. Also some cars (usually 2004s) don't show missing cat cels at all, or as easily.

I was wondering if we could get a technical lesson on why this happens. Fuel trims are working but trimming to the wrong target.

Its a combination of MAF calibration and injector "slop".
There is a wide range of injector output. Just because the primaries are supposed to be 290cc doesn't mean they are.
They can be anywhere from 276cc - 312cc and still be in spec.
The 380cc secondaries can range from 356cc - 404cc. The P2s the same.
That is a HUGE difference in lambda.
When you cross the open-loop threshold, the PCM calculates fuel without regard to this variation, so a command for a particular lambda target could yield just about anything.

Good explanation. I forgot about open loop.
I only looked briefly as I was driving but around 7krpm in third at high-ish load I was in the 11s. Do you offer a set of maps to offset this or do you currently only have extra maps for lean cars?
