It seems that the biggest complaint...grievance...whatever...is that users just want to know where they are in queue. As a web programmer I offer my services to Jeff to help come up with a system of "You are tune xx with the last serviced tune being yy submitted on zz/zz/zz." It shouldn't be too hard to get programmed up and could clear up a lot of the mumbo jumbo flack that comes out.

Understood. I have those same concerns come my way regarding the ignition systems we offer and I tell people that "no news is good news" and that I will contact them if unforseen delays arise (or if I even think there may be a delay). The problem is that I can spend my time contacting people at each stage of build-up of their kit or I can simply spend the time assembling them and shipping them. I could also raise the price $50 per unit and hire someone to make people feel better regarding the status of their kit.
Instead, what I have done is determine that 99% of the time the BHR Ignition Systems take 2-3 weeks to build and ship out and I bust my *** to make sure that they ship out within that timeframe (to the extent that it is within my control). Every time Easy and Flashwing come by my place guess where I am? Sometimes my supply orders are so big that my own vendors are stunned and have to hustle to keep up. Apparently, they are only NOW realizing that I wan't joking a year ago when I told them to brace themselves.........
We are attempting to reshape the MM Calibration process and administration thereof along these same lines.

What I was thinking of was a more automated system where a web interface would upload the tune to the folder...update the status of the tune...send the email...and update the overall count/position. Less work for Jeff...more info for us.

Believe it or not, that kind of system would actually bog things down. Once we get a handle on all this I will explain what happened and what we did.
Ask Easy and Flash; the skill I bring to the BHR team is dogged obsession over organization, combined with a teeny bit of automotive technical knowledge. I am a process-oriented guy in the way I handle BHR's affairs and we will be applying that model to MM's operation (he is now finally accepting that it is inevitable).
Those guys come over to my house on personal time and guess what I am always doing when they get here? Building ignition systems, checking incoming inventory status, re-checking the drop-shipped stuff for status, boxing orders for shipment, etc., and making sure everything is organized. Without that, I cannot allow myself to relax.
The bottom line is, as I have always said, "the technical stuff is easy, it is the people-stuff that is challenging". As such, to keep our customer service at the level where everyone has come to expect (and have been gracious in discussing amongst themselves) there HAS to be direct, personal, involvement in the process and attempting further automation of any kind will only add to the confusion.
This applies to both what I do and what Jeff does as each order/tune is different and has different dynamics surrounding them. This is also why Jeff really NEEDS his customers to understand that they have a certain level of responsibility in helping the process along. The "11 Deadly Questions" need to be answered directly and with complete and utter accuracy. They also need to refrain from sending repeat e-mails asking where their calibrations are (although that is largely a trust-based issue so we need to make efforts at gaining trust in that particular matter so people can rest easy). Additionally, once Jeff has determined that a given tune is "finished", his customers need to understand that he is an egomaniac who isn't just trying to blow people off with half-assed tunes (this is where he and I are like brothers; passion and ego combined resulting in a 110% effort every time with what we do for our customers). A given engine will only make so much power and to spend time chasing that other 1-2 horsepower is usually a waste of time.

I zoom therefore I am.
having seen Ray in action with Erik and Todd at his side, I can pretty safely say that whatever they're doing to the calibration service will result in a much more streamlined and transparent process.
Of course, you can always do what I do and just go to the SoCal Dyno days once a year for your tune <lol>

Hey Jeff,
Im just another guy on the long list of people without updated calibrations. I did receive a confirmation email on April 1, 2010, which stated "Received".. i just realized today that we must now go to a link and replace the USERNAME with our own. i did that and it says the page cannot be found. I also have an aftermarket intake.. so i believe i need to send and email with only the "11 deadly questions for custom basemap? Or should we start completely from scratch?

Every single submission must contain all items asked for regardless of the reason. It's the only way to ensure we don't have to keep asking for information which delays the process.

hi jeff:
i got a received confirmation in 4/7/10. instead of waiting for 2 months like last time, i want to check in with you after one month. i hope that i will get a reply soon.

I might be the minority here, but when the time comes for my MM AP tune, knowing it could take several weeks or even a couple months, I would gladly pay the extra $50 to know status, eta, etc.

2 many mods, 2 little $$$

I submitted my datalogs back in march, but my concern now isn't the updated tune, but the fact that I'm getting ready to do the RB s-port and polish on my engine with nrs ceramic seals. Will the base map that I'm currently running be accurate enough to start the car and redatalog or will I need a custom base map. I will gladly resubmit the 11 deadly questions with a list of mods if necessary. Please advise.

Thanks for the clearing that up Flashwing. So i re-submited my 11 deadly questions and 3 data logs on 5-12-10. I double checked to make sure everything was filled out correctly, and i left a small note at the bottom explaining why i re-submited. So lets hope all goes swell this time, because i ordered my AP almost 3 months ago, and i guess its been taking a lil longer than expected to receive updated maps. Cant wait for some more Power!

ok so i am also waiting for my custom tune, just past the 8 to 10 day window that was advertised. So I am wondering if the base FI is safe to drive with. I just need to go about 82 miles just to get my car back to my house. This rental car is getting expensive waiting on this custom maps

It is in this thread as well. As long as you didn't have any major problems during the data logging you are safe to drive the car...just don't romp on it. I think he also suggested that you set your boost controller down to like 2psi or something to ensure that you don't run the risk of damaging anything just in case.

Yeah I read that I just have to drive about 80 miles to get the car back to my house, I do understand that you could go a mile or to here or there, was just curious about a good distance, sorry should of said that first

Just got the new calibration as well. couple quesitons.
1. Everytime i load a new map my car stalls at idle, but after a while it "learns" i guess and doesnt stall any more. is this normal?
2. under WOT the a/f ratio usually was 11.2 all the way up to red line. now it tapers off to about 11.8 at redline with the new map. is this normal?
my car is turbo btw
thanks.

I once had that problem where everytime I reset the PCM, my car would want to stall unless I drove it around for awhile.
Once I changed the spark plugs, the problem went away.
Not saying your plugs (or coils) are bad, just something to think about.
