New MazdaManiac BASE Calibrations

VERY TRUE!! lol, ![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Question, I should datalog it to make sure. But the current map ive been using, the AFR usually sits around 14.4/14.8 when cruising at 70-75 mph. After 75mph it would drop down to 13.3. Recently it is staying at 14.5/15.2 at 70/75 and after 75 its staying the same (crusing). The AFR isnt dropping like it did before. (using same map) At WOT it would drop down into 12.xx/13.xx
Make sense?
should this be a concern? Just wondering why the AFR's would change all of a sudden since i have been runnning this map for, 2 months maybe??

When that happens it pulls values from the fuel table for open loop which in that range tend to be richer than closed loop values.
The difference in behavior of the car could be load related. You change fuel values for a particular RPM and you tend to reduce the overall load in that range. So now you're in a new load range at that RPM which changes the target air/fuel.
If you're cruising and seeing between 14.7/15.2 AFR technically you are fine. Some motors don't like to run leaner than 14.7 while others do. Mazdamaniac is the final say on that issue because he is tuning the car but from my perspective it's fine.

well thats what i mean, the map was at one AFR with same load as usual with my cruising speed 70/75mph. going above 75+mph it would sit in the 12.xx/13.xx crusing at steady mph. Then recently iv noticed the AFR's leaner and i see more of 15.2 where before it only did that letting off gas. (on the same map)
I know it eventually learns fuel trims and kinda corrects itself.

Running the stock MM map I noticed this happening today also. Went from nearly 23(average) mpg running 74 mph to 17-18(average) running 76 mph. Each recorded over about 20 miles each.
Also found out that recording 7 variables the AP can record for over 3.5 hours!

Unfortunately for me, this is the only MM map I have as I was never able to retrieve the tune you had created for me from my AP. Don't know how it happened but the tune wasn't on the AP when I tried to download it to the computer.
The only part I dont like about this whole situation is that you said the AP would save the tune currently loaded in the car onto the AP when you uninstall it. See post #1767 on page 71 of this thread. The AP didn't save the currently loaded tune so I lost it completely.
I have tried contacting you via PMs and email to discuss this, but no response to those requests. I did get the initial few emails from you about the AP not having the map on it, but the requests after that to talk with you further were ignored.
I don't want to crap on this thread so instead of airing this matter out here, I would much rather talk with you via PMs or email, can you contact me?

I'm no expert on tuning, but if the base maps are meant to be close to stock with minor tweaks, that is pure laziness on the other "tuners" part to steal your map instead of simply creating their own.
I sure hope nobody is doing that...

Its sad to think that someone would actually steal a base map from you for their own personal (or "professional") gains.

It is especially important to protect the FI calibrations since there is so much set-up data that is different than the way the car ships from the OE and I took a considerable risk developing that info.
The N/A base calibrations are, essentially, completely stock fuel maps and ignition maps. The purpose of that calibration is to setup a base (duh) for tuning the MAF.
The FI versions have to have a bunch of things addressed so that the car wont go boom.
The fuel and ignition on those calibrations are exceedingly cautious. Really, to the point of barely making the car run in most scenarios.
I didn't really mean to imply that the calibrations are "crappy" in the sense that you shouldn't run your car on them (especially NA). Just that there is no performance benefit.
Of course, that is in the instructions that no one ever reads...

Add to that the human nature of "customers" and you have for some interesting times.
