one thing to point out...you need to have two working keys to do this (two of the main keys not a Valet key)

 

Actually, that is not entirely correct. You can program a key using a main key and a valet key. When I bought my 8 the dealer couldn't find one of the main keys, so the ordered me a new one. They cut it when it arrived and i programmed it myself using the main key and the valet key that came with the car. I used the same technique - 5 seconds in on position with 2 good keys, then 5 seconds with the new one.

 

Yeah, programming it yourself will save you $150. Well, at least at my dealer, they want to charge 1.5 hours of labor for 10 minuts of work.. haha

Oh yeah, I have the '05 key and it works fine with my '04

Do these come with the alarm fobs as well?? Is the picture on your site a picture with the extended and the key retracted, showing the other side of the fob?

When I ship Il send the Mazda install instructions for both the Key and the Transmitter.
I can tell you that the Mazda Dealers that tried to install the new key and faild did not wait long enough for the car to read the new key. The thef light will blink for a while when it is programming the new key.. Dont give up it may take a Min or so. In my car it took over a Minute for the thef light to stop blinking before I could remove that key.

 

OK... either I'm losing it or does the key fob incorporate the key? I guess the easiest way to ask is, does the key retract into the remote fob a la VW/Audi keys? If so, sign me up! :D Also, how do I become a gold member?


I think this will look sweet along with my rotary key and leather case Actually now that I think of it, I think this new fob will fit my leather case that stores my rotary key. The '04 style fob's did not fit.

yes.. its like a switchblade. key pops out of the side and then folds back into the Fob
