Wanted: Auto-dimming factory rearview mirror

Greetings MazMart. I’ve got a base 6M and I am looking for a factory auto dimming rearview mirror. Also, while I haven’t pulled the headliner I’m assuming the wiring harness is up there for it—do you have a way of verifying that?

Thanks in advance.

RotaMotion, do you have auto dimming on the text you're using? :D . Just kidding, I'll see what I have and get back to you.
Paul.

Rotamotion,
I've got your mirror. $175 + ride. If you contact me and purchase this month (August) I'll discount it.

Mazmart,

I'm also interested in the autodim mirror, but I'm concerned about size. Is it bulkier, are there extra buttons (like garage door openers and stuff)? I'd like the auto dim feature, but don't need extra buttons or significantly reduced visibility.

Thanks,
Labop

I'll post some pics tomorrow if I can. I wouldn't describe it as being bulky. Thanks Labop.

Jason, thanks for the illustration. That works really well. If my darn camera stops acting up I can give an even clearer still image.

MazMart,

Just checking on what's the next step? I sent a PM yesterday. From the message above it looked like you guys wanted to move quickly. I would have preferred to get a hold of you guys Monday, but that was a nightmare marathon long-a$$ day at work, and I’ve got to be careful with accessing the net from work as we have big-brother network police who monitor us…

Got your P/M. I'm trying to do comprehensive homework on the wiring aspect of it.
Thanks for your patience and perseverance RotaMotion,
Paul.

No worries. I really appreciate you looking into the wiring.

My hope is that the wiring connector for the mirror is right above the mirror under the headliner near the overhead light. I would be really surprised if they had two wiring harness undr the headliner—one with a mirror connector and one without. Seems like that would be a really expensive way of doing things.

My headliner even has a hole cut in it right above the mirror for the wire.

So, in a perfect world, it would be just a matter of pulling back the headliner on the mirror donor 8 an unplugging the mirror wiring connector from a jack under the headliner. So let me know if I’m living in reality or not Also, I’m not shy about soldering some wiring if I have to.

Since we've got a three day weekend coming up, we can pick this up next week if you run out of time. Thanks again.

All sorts of things would be different in a perfect world. Unfortunately there are two harnesses for the roof of the 8. From what I understand all the sunroof cars are equipped to use the homelink type mirror (with shade adjustment). I'll give you a verdict tomorrow as to exactly what I can provide and at what price.

My price on the mirror with harness is $250. I may have as many as 2 in stock.
Ask for me, Paul.

MazMart, just wanted to say Thank You for all the research. Sorry I disappeared. That was rude of me after starting this thread. A few days after my last post, my 8 got nailed by an uninsured, unlicensed, and very drunk driver. That was 4 months ago, my 8 is still a mess, and the whole thing has been Hell. At the time I only had 1,800 miles on it. I just hit a point were I couldn't cope and disappeared from the forum. Hopefully I'll eventually be able to find someone who can fix my 8 correctly...

so, you can't just plug an auto-dim mirror into a base car with no sunroof?

No, you will have to add the harness.
