Installed it Saturday after about 1.5 hours of effort. Removed drivers front wheel and worked through the wheel well flap there for visibility and then underneath for the rest. Cussed out Mazda for making everything such a tight fit, costing me an ounce of flesh off my knuckles. Fuzzy image in service manual was not helpful in terms of how to get the wires disconnected from the starter solenoid. Mistakenly removed nut from easily accessible stud only to find I didn't need to remove that one. Wow what a difference in cranking speed!

Got it installed a day after I received it. I say I got it installed as a week or two previous to that I had done the coils and spark plugs myself and decided I didn't want to climb under that damn car again for a while.
My opinion on this starter? WOW! This thing is worth it's weight in gold. My RX-8 had no problems starting on the old starter but now it starts so quickly it's unbelievable. Most of the time it cranks over just fractions of a second after I cranked it. It may be expensive, but it's worth it and I am completely worry-free when I go to crank this car over now. These things are fantastic!
