I am not happy at this point, but I still have hope that Scott will work out these issues. I think this could really be a great product that I would really like to keep. This is the first batch, think about how f'd up Mazda's first batch of Rx8's were.

i assume the dongle goes on the water temp wire? just connect it so that the "dongeled" output only goes to the PCM not the interceptor. that wont affect the maps.

Guys,
Please DO NOT connect any emanage dongles to the Interceptor-X wiring. If you notice the codes that have been popping up are because the system is too rich. There is actually nothing "wrong" other than the factory ECU is seeing the "rich" values and determining that they are to "rich" for a stock non turbo car. The factory ECU is correct, the AFR's these guys are viewing are too rich for a non-turbo car. If you run a Turbo car at 13.0-1 AFR's hard (under boost) you will at some point have an engine failure. As I stated before, the CEL will perform as Mazda intended. If we fool the factory O2 sensor then using it to monitor AFR's will no longer be accurate. Scott

Scott called me twice today. After our last conversation over the weekend he thought to ask if I had installed the spark plugs I purchased from him. I hadn't, and he thinks that's the cause of my ping--the maps were developed using RX-7 plugs in mind. Where the RX-8 normally has 7s leading and 9s trailing, his plugs are all 9s. The trailing plugs use two crush washers as spacers. The leading plugs don't use the spacers.
I don't know if I'll be able to change plugs until the weekend but that's the current best guess why I was having problems.

that's not going to fix the CEL though. in fact you'll get a CEL without a turbo at all. (yea I know there's a fix using some sort of spacer, but I'm no so sure about its long term reliability)
i have no idea how the interceptor is specifically wired, nor the emanage that ships with the greddy kit...but I'd assume one of the dongles on the emanage harness tricks the PCM into thinking the car is always warming up, so that it can get away with richer than acceptable AFR's. my guess is it caps the water temp sensor output to just under the threshhold for being totally warm. so why can't you just feed the interceptor the true water temp signal (so that it runs the correct hot or cold map when appropriate) and send the PCM a capped signal to supress the CEL?
i'm just throwing ideas out there. of course scott knows these things better than any of us ever will, but I myself cannot live with a CEL constantly on. you'll never know when a new code has come up without constantly monitoring it with a can reader, not to mention it's ugly!

The turbo itself should not cause you to fail emissions except maybe in California, provided you have no CEL's. The turbo should pass a smog test as long as you have a cat. Greddy has even submitted it for CARB approval, although it will be a few years before it actually has certification.

Wouldn't you just clear all your CEL's just prior to the inspection? As long as you don't go into high boost again before the inspection there won't be a CEL light.
