Question about Cooling Mod

I have the Mazsport cooling modifcation, which works great, the car never gets over about 195 for any length of time. I have a Scan Guage attached to the Can port so I am able to watch my coolant temps in real time.

One thing I was wondering, I thought the Mazsport mod only kicked the fans on around 195 degrees, because my fans will kick on occationally in the 186 range. Now, my temp reading on the Scan guage could be a little slow, and the temp sensor in the Mazsport device is independent, so I was just wondering if anyone else noticed this. Can could the PCM be kicking the fans on earlier? Just want to make sure that all the fan switching on and off wasn't going to hurt the car in the long run (I wouldn't think it would)

Actually i think kicking on at ~186 is normal.

Could be where the coolant temperature is begin measured that is making the difference. The mod sensor is at a different location than your gauge sensor and this could be a naturally hotter point in the cooling system.

Mine does seems to stay on more with the A/C on - not sure if this is due to a hotter running engine or an ECU command running the fans more frequently when the A/C is on. This only seems to happen at idle and not at speed.

Turning on and off will not hurt the fans any, but the additional run-time can, in-theory, shorten the life of the fan motors. I would think any life-shortening of the fans would be minimal and worth the investment in engine-wear savings.
