BTW, now that it has snowed, anybody gone out? How is the car in snow? I'm spoiled by 4wd, but wonder if the 8 does ok in winter driving. Do you feel the need to buy snow tires? Thanks...
I live in Silverthorne, it's up in the Mtn by Keystone. I drive mine in the snow, but do have winter tires, bought some Dunlop 3D wintersports and have couple of sandbags in the trunk. I drive the Vail pass and such, but it does have hard time when it's in the deep snow and we all know how the 8 lacks in the torque department. But I still love it in the snow and the dry!!

You might consider removing those sandbags and just going with skinnier tires. Also you just replied to a post from 03, don't think you will get a response there. :P

Going from a 225 width tire to a 205 width tire is a 8.88% decrease in surface area of the tire to the snow, and with the same weight spread over the reduced contact patch, a roughly 12.1% increase in the pressure of the tire to the snow.

And that's just some napkin math to the common 17x7 205/50r17 winter package people go with without factoring in the added benefit of narrower tires cutting through the snow better. So, if you want to add weight to get the same increase of effectiveness as going to that tire package (without going to the tire package), add 363lbs of weight to the car.

2 burly guys should be about right.

Actually, the fact that the RX-8 lacks in the torque department only helps when driving in snow, as the tires don't have to work as hard gripping the ground when there's only 100 to 159 foot lbs of torque being applied, in comparison to a Mustang with 280 ft-lbs in the V-6, all the way up to 510 ft-lbs in their supercharged monster car.

That may be, but when you're in about 8-12" of snow and trying to move, it's better to have the torque and power out than without!

I think it is like the 3rd weekend in May. My brother is apart of the club and he has gone to a couple of these events, and said he will put my name in the registration this time.

It is down at HPR. It is mixed classroom and driving. I am pretty excited about it.

Im tempted to sign up for that, but then Id have to join the BMWCCA not that thats a problem though.

Saturday would have been a really good day for a rookie to come out. The track was nearly empty. I think I ran for 30-45 by myself at one point. Went through 2 tanks of gas, a tire, and 40oz of oil but I greatly imprived my line maintaining sufficient speed to require at least 3 gear except for turns 6 and 8. I ended up doing a total of 147 track miles. Had a 2009 Lamborghini Gallardo show up too, but he kept leaving the track when Id come on.

I have an Accessport but you must marry it to the car that is tuned so it can't tune two cars at once. If you need to borrow it for diagnostics or something then sure...you can borrow it.

I think we would get more people together if it wasn't at the track. My first idea was to have a Bbq or something.I've been wanting to drive up the pass tward woodland park or maybe cripple creek and play some poker? I hosted the phantomcanyon brewery meet last time. I could do that next month.

Rumors lies, and falicies.
How dare you say something so untrue.

You should be beaten with a box of dried spaghetti. :P

We could have a BBQ at the track for those who don't want to drive their precious cars, and risk having fun. They can make us burgers while we work up an appetite.

Yeah, why not at the track? We could do the BBQ and those of us (BC and I) that want to drive can run around the track and give rides to those interested.

Yeah, my car is a Sport, so no headroom robbing sunroof in it, so just about anyone can git in it with a helmet on, unless you're like 6'7" tall, with a super long torso.
