I did one time with about 11 or so further up North and it was great being with other RX owners. Seems there is a decent group in the Springs. I am south of Denver but before the Springs. I have an 04 RX touring automatic with 15,000 on it. Wished I had waited till now because the value has taken a nose dive on lots of cars these days. They are not an investment for sure. Still I like the RX but its not my daily driver. Had to purchase snows for it for the first time because the car just does not go in any amount of snow without snowtires. Course in the Spring I will need to go back to the street tires. Hope you enjoy your RX

Congrats on the purchase and welcome!

Which turbo kit did you go with?

airstriker2005 02-19-2009 08:48 AM

Thanks Darth. I ended up going with the Greddy kit. It seems to work best with the stock set up and it comes with e-manage which is a nice feature. I also prefer the Greddy kit because it is pretty easy to upgrade if i wish to down the road.

StealthTL 02-19-2009 09:16 AM

We havw some 'fixes' for the poor design of the Greddy, here in the Tech section. They will help you get the most performance and longest life out of your new kit.

I use a Greddy too, welcome aboard!

There is another colorado springs mazda club member that has this kit (I think his forum name is ghost?).

If you ever deceide to upgrade I would contact Mazdamaniac (Jeff Abrams, mazdamaniac.com). He sells an upgrade to the greddy kit that nets some serious power. Wish I had the money to go FI, maybe in a couple of years.

I am taking my 8 to the dyno (SR Tuning) in a few weeks. I was trying to get more people in the area so that we could do a group day at a discounted rate, but only two wanted to play.

If you need your ECU tuned after your install you can get it done at SR Tuning here in the springs. Or you can by an Accessport from mazdamaniac and he will do it for you.

Hi All,

Just purchased a red 2009 R3.

Bought it last week, and loving it so far!

Welcome to the club and congrats on the purchase!

CUE2's RX-8 03-07-2009 12:02 AM

Hello again!

This is a note for the new RX-8 owners. I bought mine new in July 2004; it had 3 miles on it. I just passed 23,500 miles on the ODO. Other that maintenance, ECU flashes, and new tires last month, I have not paid ANY extra for repairs on the car. Still loving it after almost 5 years!

I put my favorite photo on my website (we own the 88 Drive-In Theatre in Commerce City). Take a look: www.stevekochevar.com. Enjoy your 8! I do!

I agree with still loving the 8 after 5 years. I've been without it for the last 2 weeks while it's in the body shop. I miss it so bad. Had about 5 miles on it when I got it. Just broke 40k.

I don't think I can ever give this car up. It just feels so new and great everytime I get in it. No other car I have driven gives the same satisfaction. Well mebe the Mazda5 I got for a rental a few weeks back. :)

Found cheap 05 that took a dip in fresh water

Hey all,

I am looking for a cheap RX8 and found one that apparently went for a fresh water dive. The car runs and drives fine but I wanted to see what you guys think before I even look at it. Was it someone's car here? It's a grey 05. Your advice appreciated.

Yea its my first rotary. Been wanting one for a while and finally had the means to get it.

Just hit 1K miles on it. Been a total blast so far. I've had 2 other sports (sporty) cars, an 89 Nissan 240sx and a 2000 Celica GTS. The RX is waaaaaaay better than either of those.

Tayninh 03-16-2009 09:24 PM

I bought my 04 new and just in the past few months its been getting good remarks from people. The eye doctor last Friday and then the people manning the drive through at McDonalds and Wendy's. Remarks are "that's an 04? it looks so new" Mine has 16K on it and it has snow tires for the first time. Course I wonder now because this weather we've had that all I am doing is wearing out snowtires. They were expensive. That's the only thing I've spent on the car is tires. Still with recalls and all the car has had two batteries, 3 sets of new spark plugs, a new stronger starter and some sort of shield over the gas tank? of course the computer hits too that helped it out some. Still its like a new car to me and I try to take care of it. Seems the rocks flying from other cars that pass by or I am following, seems to be the worst. Just a few pits in the windshield a few nicks on the hood from flying missiles. The car handles well. I am kind of use to the somewhat slow take off but love it each time it reaches 25 MPH and then starts to take off. Kind of neat but its the nature of a rotary. My first ever and my first sports car. I don't really want to get another. Corvettes are good but this car is unique and you just don't see a lot of them around. I also have a silver 02 Accord and you see those lined up at red lights all over town. Not with an RX though. So we are a unique crowd I guess. I saw at the dealer up on the wall in the service department a chrome air cleaner for the RX. Its the new filter type too that I think takes a special cleaning kit to clean it. I've heard that improves performance. Not sure but it looks neat. Interesting that a Mazda dealer was showing it and selling them.

airstriker2005 03-17-2009 12:37 PM

Hey everyone. Its been a while since Ive posted, but I just wanted to check in on how all the colorado RX8 owners are doing. I just can't get over how much i love to drive the RX8 (the turbo kit does help). I still have a few mods to take care of before im done for a while. Just ordered my Greddy Exhaust and also picked up a set of lowering springs (1.4 in the front and 1.25 in the rear). I think it will make the car look even more aggressive. Anyways I hope all of you are doing well. I hope this nice weather sticks around.

Poker Run Anyone?

:us4allswiHey to All. Newbie Here. Bought a 2004 Black 8 two weeks ago. It is in excellent shape. Took a trip to Vegas via Amarillo across I-40 thru New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada. Then up thru Utah and back across I-70. It ran fantastic and I really loved taking back winding roads. After the trip I love the RX8 more than when I bought it. I was amazed at how many compliments I recieved on the car. Really enjoyed Valet parking it at the Mirage and the Bellagio.
Hoping to find other Denver area drivers that want to set up a Poker Run one of these weekends or if anyone knows of a local weekend get together please let me know.
See Yall on the Roads

Bummer about the car show. If it's on Sunday I wont be able to go. I gotta work. Just added a GTO spoiler to my 8. It really flows with the cars lines. Now I gotta start with the performance mods and a set of classy rims. Here is a pic of how it looks.

DarthRX8 04-29-2009 11:34 AM

log into coloradomazdaclub.com

if you are coming to colorado springs (ft carson) there is a bi weekly meet that changes periodically.

We have a few RX8s on carson, I am the only winning blue one that I have seen though. See you around and Welcome!

parkpy 04-30-2009 04:46 PM

you guys need to hit the racetracks more often. i've only ever seen one other RX8 on the track. And I'm not talking about autocrossing or drag racing. Sad really. The RX8 just BEGS to be caned and it is really fantastic at chasing down fast, nose heavy cars. I mean 4/24 was just a BEAUTIFUL day to be at the track, and the eye candy their rivals any car club day.

(did I taunt you guys enough? Now I wait for someone to tell me that I need to man up and get into wheel to wheel racing:P).

The first autox that I registered for this year was canceled (18 Apr, World Arena), for bad weather. Can't wait for next months :)

High Plains Raceway is closer:P

You'll have fun. I'm not a big fan of autocrossing, partly because I have a hard time with memorization without constant repetition, and mainly because I suck. Oh, be sure to bring TONS of a water, and perhaps a camping/lawn chair.

DarthRX8 05-01-2009 11:18 AM

Not for me. I am in colorado springs and live right down the street from the world arena.

My 8 is my DD and I don;t like to beat it up too bad.

Hey all,

I just got my RX8 today. Actually picking it up Monday.....
It's a 2008 silver sport model (the price was good)
Car looks nice and drives like new. I already want to start modding it but I have to wait for my first project to be done (383 powered 3rd gen RX7). Once I am done with that, I plan gradual (due to money of course) power mods. I will start educating myself on the forced induction options. I'll check out the events section and will surely meet some of you soon. Just wanted to share my excitement.

Dealer Warranty

1 Attachment(s)
Sigfrid, Congratulations! You will love it. Be Careful on mods. Most Engine mods Void the 100,000 mile power train warranty. I think your safe with air intake and catback but under pulleys, headers, turbos etc wil definately void the warranty.

sigfrid 05-03-2009 07:07 PM

newbie

Thanks for the feedback Zoombob. I guess I will focus on a cat back a K&N filter and some sort of tuning to start with. If I keep the 7, I will not mod the 8 much. If I sell the 7, I will not care about the warranty and go crazy.... Talk to you later,

Sigfrid

go to the HPR website and check out their schedule for open lapping days:) I would high suggest going to a driving school first.

Hey parkpy do you know of any driving school around c-springs? Also how much do they normally cost.

DarthRX8 05-06-2009 10:51 AM

go to motorsportreg.com/index.cfm/event/calendar and type in your zip.

There is a driving school in La Junta this month. Most events in the area are on this website too!

I would just join the BMW Club. They are very professional and their instruction is outstanding. Their safety record is impeccable.

www.rmcbmwcca.com

They'll have a trackday coming up in Pueblo. Also, Pikes Peak recently opened too. google Rocky Mountain NASA for more information. They are a very good motorsport club. I
