I know that when I went to a track day here in Colorado, they didn't care what kind of helmet as long as it was not a bicycle helmet. I bought a helmet at Wal Mart for about $70 dollars. Track day is bad *** but HELL on your tires. Enjoy yourselves, its worth the cost.

All set on this end! Have helmet and everthing else. So count me in! I like your idea Kewl about all 8's pulling in at the same time. I can meet you anywhere you want. I live in Los Lunas/Peralta so I have to head north to the big I before heading west. Just me know what time you guys want to meet up and where.

Don't forget to print out and fill in the form you will need for Sunday. See http://coloradoscca.org/supregs/2005...005_HPe_v1.pdf
in case you have misplaced the URL...
Do we want to try for breakfast Sunday morning? It will be early.....about 6am at one of the places around Coors and I-40.

A couple of things you do and keep in mind for Sunday
Full tank of gas
Bring Oil and top it off before leaving the house
Consider increasing tire pressure. I will be taking mine to 36-38 psi
Empty the trunk and anything inside the car that could move around while you are on the track. Not good to have something hitting you in head in the middle of a corner
Bring something to eat and drink and some sunscreen if that is an issue for you. It being cloudy doesn't decrease UV.
Don't forget the $75 needed for the track.
If I think of anything else, or MadDog you have something to add....please do.

Worked on those items today. Cleaned out the inside of anything and the only thing in the trunk is the spare tire and 2 qts of oil.
Why up so much on the tires Kewl? I would have actualy thought the reverse. Lower tire presure = softer tire =more grip in cornering. I will none the less take your advice and pump up the air.

Too low a pressure makes the tire too loose....sloppy. It could break a bead causing a flat. Stiff tire, higher pressure handles better, crisper handling. I guess that's something you want on the track. I thought the same thing as you....lower pressure=better handling. The instructor we had in Colorado made the point about having higher pressure - at least for what we are doing. I guess if you do this professionally you have race tires and race tires work better at lower pressure - street tires don't.
I haven't done enough track driving to really say I can tell the difference.

Well, I'd love to join you guys, but Albuquerque is a bit of a drive for one day. It would be interesting to track my auto though. See how it compares to the 6MTs and MD's turbo :p

Tech Inspection starts at 7:30a. I would guess we should consider being there shortly after seven since I, for one, have no clue how this will work.
If you like, how about we meet at the McDonald's on Coors NORTH of I-40, across the intersection from Home Depot. There is also a McD's south of I-40 that can been seen from the interstate.....not that one! I-40/Coors is under construction so plan accordingly. If you get detoured for some reason, call me for directions.
If we want to get something to eat before heading to the track we can. Track should only be about 20 minutes travel from there.
Meet at McD's about 6am?
My cell, if you have problems or issues is 321-6112.
Tires....be sure to check that lug nuts are tight!

That sounds great Kewl! 6am it is McD's north of I-40.
Here is my cell in case as well 975-1871
Also this should be a given but everyone remember your drivers license and car insurance (I did not see that on the paper work [car ins] but you never know) and it might not hurt to have a change of underwear :p :p :p !!!
MaDog are you going to make it???? I am so curious to see how much differance there is between the turbo and the stock 8.

Yes I did get a helmet MD. Glad to hear that you are going to make it!! Lets just hope the weather is nicer than it is now, it has been raining off and on since about 6:30 here in Peralta. I don't know what they are going to do if it is raining at the track???
Kewl and myself posted our cell #'s earlier but here is mine again 975-1871. We can wait a little while there probably 30-40 mins for you. Let either of us know.

okay, so before you both get excited...
when we were leaving the track, I got NO traction through 3 gears! I was spinning going into first, but finally locked them in before hitting 2nd. But, the wheels were spinning all the way through 2nd gear and then after the 2-3 shift, too! I NEED NEW RUBBER to put this power down! I am going today to look around!
So don't you two get all giddy. If the pavement hadn't been wet, I would have smoked you worse than I did. :p I couldn't put the power to the ground with all that wheel spin! Plus, the DSC was on the whole time!

Ok I belive you! I actualy figured somthing was out of sorts because I was in 2nd was having to let off & or tap the brakes so as not to get too aquainted with your 8.
It is a shame that the weather was not in our favor, I really wanted to go out on the track and have some fun. Plus the sessions that we would (might have)get just did not seam like it would be long enough. You know just as you would be getting used to the car and the track the session would be over. Then have to wait for an hour or so and then go out and just get started again and opps its over.
Maybe I will have to try the track that the 2 of you went to this last summer. It sounded like a lot better of a deal.

All that says MadDog....is that it likely was a good thing you didn't take the track with those tires. More indications that the decision not to run was a good one. I'll keep an eye out for other opportunities for a track day.
MD, I guess one of us had a bad cell signal so I didn't get to ask...do you notice the same 'better performance' at something a little less than WOT with the turbo that many people comment on, including myself?
BTW radar has been showing rain in the track area most of the morning.
Nice to meet you this morning Stinger, I'm glad you were able to join us but sorry we didn't get to try out the track. Look for you next sunday for a nice sunny sunday drive.

Well actually you are very corect Ben. It is water proof, it just is not CONCRETE WALL PROOF!!! And since I had planned on pushing myself to my limits (not the car by any means) I sure did not need anything to help me find those limits any sooner!

I think you'd be suprised how safe it really was out there. Especially in the rain.
Personally I'd rather be out there in a little drizzle on the track in a controlled environment with full SCCA trained and certified corner marshalls, an ambulance full of parametics, and a tow truck. Rather than on some (hopefully) empty mountian road.
