Looks like it's about that time again. The next auto-x at the church is going to be this coming Saturday, June 3rd. It should go from about 7:00 PM to about 10:00 PM. Hope some of you guys can make it out :-D

I'm still ironing out the turbo. I've made a few 'upgrades'! heh
I'll be there. Hoping to have everything in place to smoke a few laps. I'll show-up either way, though.

Great MD and Kewl! I will see ya there. How about you Ocho you gonna make it?
PS Cheyanne has not forgotten about the 3rd. the other night at dinner she mention how she could not wait for the 3rd my wife asked her why and she said because we were going to go and race the car and that she had to remember the push broom and the video camera! So I guess I am going no matter what!

Hey all I will be there unless something crazy comes up. I also plan on actually taking the car for some laps. Be great to see everyone. Well I have seen a couple of new 8's in town but still pretty quiet here. We need to get all the rotary owners for a drive to the Sandias all ready. Seems like it's down to just the 4 of us talking on this forum. really need to get these 8 owners more active. See you all saturday.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to say hi. See how everyone has been. I want to go to Albuquerque but I got in a crash a while back. I little girl t-boned me on her dirt bike and messed up my 8 pretty good. The insurance is cutting me a check pretty soon so I can get it fixed but until then I will keep riding my gixxer. When are you all going to drive the sandias? I would like to do that. I recently got new hours with my job so im more free with my time now. Ill try and be more active now everyone.

New to this car and to this forum. Just bought a 06 8 6spd and I enjoy it so far, although I've only had it for less than a week. I only have about 140 miles on it, but just today I pulled up behind a black one here in Las Cruces. Thankfully you don't see too many here.

Howdy freebird. Welcome to the club. I was just thinking about how many 8's I see on the road these days. Hell, in the past 2 months, *3* 8's have appeared in the parking lot here where I work! And they're all silvers! So much for having something different to drive around...

Freebird....congratulations on the 8, we all know you will love the car.
Lots of good advice and information is available on this forum so if you have any questions/concerns be sure to ask.
Read up on flooding...actually just don't start the car cold and turn it off cold...always let it warm up and you will be fine. Oil...check oil often, at least at every fill-up until you are sure about the amount of oil your engine uses....using oil is normal, that's just how a rotary works so don't let it using some worry you.
Now enjoy the car...it will be a blast to drive. Also watch here for meets...maybe we can have one that is closer to cruces... Then you won't have to drive too far...not that you would really mind.

Freebird welcome!!! Kewl is very corect on all his advice! Especialy on the flooding. It happend to me and well it royaly s**ks!! Had to have the 8 towed and that was not very simple because of the low ground clearance. It was hard to find someone to do it that was not affraid of tearing the car up. Would enjoy meeting you someday soon! Congratulations on purchasing a awsome car!!!

Have any of you ever driven the road between Hillsboro and Silver City? That is easily the twistiest, nastiest stretch of road I've been on. It's one of those roads that you just leave it in second and haul *** through the corners. On the back side, there are some places you can really open it up, and if you take the road between Silver and Deming, it's like a giant runway where you can top out. I haven't yet done it in the 8, but I'm planning on doing it after I get a few more miles on it, maybe around the middle of the 4th of July week. Did it in my old 6 and my girlfriend who doesn't ever get motion sick almost puked halfway up the pass.

....almost puked halfway up the pass. Now that sounds like a road for us!!!
I have driven the Hillsboro/Silver City road, but in a truck so it was more of a panic road then a fun road. Now I hadn't thought of that one since that drive, so now that you remind me of it I will have to consider taking it in the 8. Sounds like great fun.
Not sure about my schedule for the 4th weekend....but if I can swing it perhaps I can join you on the drive if you go.

What's up Steve,
That sucks you got ran into.. We have lost some 8 drivers from the forum so its good to see some old and new ones active. I have seen a bunch of 8's lately as well. I'm glad silver seems to be the favorite.. LOL sorry Kewl and MD hehe
Freebird you will love the car. Hope to see you all tomorrow for a little driving fun..

We had a good RX8 turn out last night at the autocross. We had a new course layout and it was a challenge but most of the 8's had a very respectable time.
There were lots of cars running so we need more 8's to show up at the next meet. Right now the next meet is scheduled for July 4th, but it might be subject to change so watch the forum here for an update as we get closer to the next meet.
Pictures were taken last night and they should be posted early next week. Stinger or I will let you know the URL once posted.
Good to see everyone last night, thanks for coming out. MadDog brought out his turbo'ed 8 and ran...doing a good job, but had too much fun with the horn...
Hope to see you all at next month's meet....as well as some on you 8 owner's who couldn't make this month's meet.

It was a good turn out last night! I know me and my daughter had a blast! I also wanted to let you that I have spent some of they comprising the video I shot last night of your 8's in action so it is veiwable in Windows Media Player format. Let me know if you want me to email these videos to you then PM me your an email address that you would like me to use. I must warn you that the video file are somewhat rather large so I will have to split them up to be able to send them. You can download "Windows Movie Maker ver 5.1" to reassemble the video to veiw it complete, that is if you do not have this program or one that is simalar already.
The link for the pictures that the profesional photogragher took is
www.photoflash.net/races
he mentioned last night that he should have the pics posted on this site Monday or Tuesday!
It was really great seeing all of you again last night and I look forward to seeing all of you there at the next Auto X!

Hey MD
boy you were really pushing your 8 last night. I think it was your second run in the video I shot as you entered the last turn heading to the start/finish line it sure looks like there is daylight under your left rear then your left front tire as you make that left hand turn. you have to advance the video frame by frame but I think you had the car at least in that turn pushed close to the limit.

Those are some pretty nice pix there. I think the auto-x ended up going really well :-D Only the one incident with the reflector for the timing light... but that got fixed :-D I was pretty good with the backup-stopwatch... usually around .15 or less off the actual time.
Stinger, did you get your broom back? I think I heard you asking to store it inside the building while you were racing... don't know if you retrieved it though.
MD, good to finally meet ya and see that turbocharged beast ya have there... very impressive... have you had a chance to dyno it since you got the 3" exhaust installed?

The pictures are nice and the video's Stinger (and crew) took were good too. Watching them made you think that grandpa was driving...it looked like you were going sooooooo slow!! Of course based on my time...I was.
Txag...any word on the meeting at the church on the future of the event?

Yes I did get the broom back. I actualy had just went ahead and put it in the trunk.
MD was really pushing it out there I want you to know. Look closely these pics that I am attaching especialy at his left side tires. I only save one video clip that shows his left rear tire (to much dust and desbre) and the rest are a series of his left front tire. You can see daylight under his tires!!!

Here is the final pic where has straightened the car out. I guess Fred is right us old foggie's were just taking it easy out there just look at his and Ocho's times. They sure were a lot lower than ours!
I also found this site that might or might not have some good tips
http://www.tirerack.com/features/solo2/handbook.htm
on how to set the tire presures and other things. I am still looking at this site hopefully I can find something useful to get my times a little lower next time.
