Yeah, I need to get the car into the dealer soon so that I can do the throttle body mod. It looks easy enough. Hopefully I can get to the dealer later this week. Will let know...

Red 8

On the way home this afternoon I saw Red 8 at the Sonic down here in BF. I stopped and talked to the Lady driving the car. Turns out it is her car. I informed her of this site and also of the Auto X 's. She said she lives in Rio Rancho. Hopefully she will pop in and maybe we will have a new member to our lil community!

How is the moving comming Ocho?

A lil off topic for the 8 forum but I got this in my email today and I thought that some of you might get a kick out of this!!!

You Know You're From New Mexico When...

You buy salsa by the gallon.

You are still using the paper license tag that came with your car five years ago.

Your favorite restaurant has a chile list instead of a wine list.

Your Christmas decorations include "a yard of sand and 200 paper bags".

You have license plates on your walls, but not on your car.

Most restaurants you go to begin with "El" or "Los".

You hated Texans until the Californians moved in.

The tires on your roof have more tread than the ones on your car.

You price-shop for tortillas.

You have an extra freezer just for green chile

You think a red light is merely a suggestion.

You believe that using a turn signal is a sign of weakness.

You think six tons of crushed rock makes a beautiful front lawn.

You pass on the right because that's the fast-lane.

You know they don't skate at the Ice House and the Newsstand doesn't sell newspapers.

You think Sadies was better when it was in the bowling alley.

You have used aluminum foil and duct tape to repair your air conditioner.

You wish you had invested in the orange barrel business.

You just got your fifth DWI and got elected to the state legislature in the same week.

Your swamp cooler got knocked off your roof by a dust devil.

You have been on TV more than three times telling about how your neighbor was shot or about your alien abduction.

You can actually hear the Taos hum.

You know Vegas is a town in the northeastern part of the state.

You are afraid to drive through Mora and Espanola.

You iron your jeans to "dress up".

You don't see anything wrong with drive-up window liquor sales.

Your other vehicle is also a pick-up truck.

You know the punch line to at least one Espanola joke.

Your car is missing a fender or bumper.

You have driven to an Indian Casino at 3am because you were hungry.

You know whether you want "red or green."

You're relieved when the pavement ends because the dirt road has fewer pot-holes.

You can correctly pronounce Tesuque, Cerrillos, and Pojoaque.

You have been told by at least one out-of-state vendor that they are going to charge you extra for "international" shipping.

You expect to pay more if your house is made of mud.

You can order your Big Mac with green chile.

You see nothing odd when, in the conversations of the people in line around you at the grocery store, every other word of each sentence alternates between Spanish and English.

You know you will run into at least 3 cousins whenever you shop at Wal-Mart, Sam's or Home Depot.

Tumbleweeds and various cacti in your yard are not weeds. They are your lawn.

If you travel anywhere, no matter if just to run to the gas station, you must bring along a bottle of water and some moisturizer.

Trailers are not referred to as trailers. They are houses. Double-wide trailers are "real" houses.

A package of white flour tortillas is the exact same thing as a loaf of bread. You don't need to write it on your shopping list; it's a given.

At any gathering, regardless of size, green chile stew, tortillas, and huge mounds of shredded cheese are mandatory.

A tarantula on your porch is ordinary. A scorpion in your tub is ordinary. A poisonous centipede on your ceiling? Ordinary. A black widow crawling across your bed is terribly, terribly common. A rattlesnake is an occasional hiking hazard. No need to freak out.

You actually get these jokes and pass them on to other friends from New Mexico

Well I am all moved in... .... Story to tell is my car vapor locked for the second time.. I figured out it was from me picking up some crappy gas in Estancia.. Don't get gas at the Mustang... Unless you have octane boost to add to the tank... Not like any of you will be going through there...LOL... Anyway, it was a real pain.. But that bypass would help prevent some of that on these hot days too. Ohh my plastic shroud under the radiator/car fell off. All the bolts shook loose and/or the plastic around them broke.. Maybe the force from my frequent 130 mph runs took its toll. Dealer wouldn't warranty exchange it but put it back on the car for free. Since I had put my modified cold air and cooling screens they said the can blame me for not putting it back on right.. I laughed because they actually duct taped some of the front of it... Lets just say the tape came off in about a day of fast driving and high heat.. Auto X is coming UP

Glad to hear the move is done....and hopefully was uneventful.

I did the bypass mod on the throttle body last night. Easy to do. Samon's had the 5/16 barb splice - less then $2.00 as I recall. Lowes and Home Depot did not have them. Not all that hot today, but I will say that I haven't had any of the normal hesitation off the line that I have experienced even when it is only in the mid-90's. tomorrow it should be hotter, so will let you know how it drives tomorrow.

Okay, second day of driving after having completed the by-pass mod. Hotter today and still none of the hesitation off the line that I normally get on hot days. Not as hot as I would like to feel good or bad about the mod however.

I also received my ScanGauge II yesterday and used it on the way to work today. Very useful and cool...or is that kewl?

I am still learning what all it can do and how best to use it, but it was interesting to watch the MPG versus RPM versus engine loading....and the trip function is very nice indeed.

ScanGauge? Take a look at scangauge.com

More on the by-pass mod after the weekend....

Kewl, that sounds good. I really think the enginge compartment needs more air to it. My exhaust cools down 10 times faster that that throttle body. Wonder how much temp drop you could acheive by running a snorkle just to put cold air to the engine compartment. Or if it is even worth it. It just seems to retain heat much longer than any other car that I have owned. Would be nice is to actually run cold water through the throttle body. Get a small transmission cooler or something and make a custom intercooler. Could be even more gains than what the REVI added. What's you thoughts?

I talked to a Best buy guy that has a red Rx8 today and told him to come check out the site. So maybe we can replace our red rep.. LOL.. Chow justin

Not really hot enough over the weekend to judge the bypass mod. I will say that not once did I experience the slightest hesitation from the engine when pulling away from a light. Maybe that's the result of the mod or maybe it just wasn't hot enough to cause it. Will continue to monitor.

The scangauge is working fine. There are features of it I still need to understand, but you can certainly tell quickly that the gear/speed you have selected may not be the best for mileage. I haven't had a chance to see what the correct combination is for the highway or the magic speed/rpm (where mileage takes a dive) but I'll let you know what I find...

NMOcho...you know the cooler to throttle body idea might be something interesting to try...I will consider how we might do that.

Hello NM 8-Owners,
My wife and I just (2 months ago) bought a Velocity Red 2004 Rx8. Well, it's actually my wife's but she lets me drive it occasionally. We fell in love with them when they first came out but weren't able to get our hands on one until now.
I recently found your site doing some Rx8 surfing on the net and thought we should join. We live in the Edgewood area and carpool into Albuquerque together (she lets me drive it to and from). Unfortunately, she keeps the car with her during the day.
We would love to meet up with some other 8-owners and do some cruising or something. I have read about the AutoX but I'm not sure either of us is ready to test our racing skills. Anyways, I'm glad to know there is a venue to communicate with other rotary lovers and hope we get to meet some of you soon.
Drive fast and take chances,
Craig & Ona

welcome

en fuego WELCOME!!! It is great to see some new faces around here!! You are going to love your 8! Actualy one of the members NMOcho lives in the Edgewood Moriarty area as well.As for the AutoX you really need to try and make the next one it is on August 5th. If nothing else come on out and check it out. It is not near as bad as you might think though. Top speed through the course is no more than 30 mph you will never even shift out of 1st gear. It is really safe in my opinion. If it wasn't I would not take my 10yr old daughter along with me through the course. But come on out and you can watch all the cars and if you want you can even ride along with me to see what it is like. As for a get together I have to agree. We are long over due.

KEWL, Ocho, Mad Dog & en fuego what do you guys say, want to get together sometime in the month of August and take a drive? I know I could use some time behind the wheel of the 8 other than driving to work(BORING). The only day that I know of for sure that I can not make it at this point is Aug. 26th.

We won't be able to make the AutoX on the 5th....hopefully next time. We already have commitments for the first 2 weekends of August but the rest of the month is open. I would love to take a drive through the Jemez or just a quick trip up to Sandia Crest with some new comrades. I have a friend who owns a Honda S2000 and he goes on afternoon drives with several other S owners on the weekends.

My wife and I went to see the new Fast and Furious movie a couple of weekends ago and then cruised up to the crest.............no drifting though. LOL!

en fuego, welcome... I'm sure that I have passed you out in the east mountains.. The autocross is great event, its a shame you cant make it. A drive is always great.. Drifting on the crest is pretty easy, just turn off the traction control. Look forward to meeting you and your family. We have had some really fun drives. Chow Justin...

My guess is there is something cheaper, but better? There is a TSB on brakes to cut down on noisy brakes. The actual procedure didn't sound any different than what a good brake shop would do, but I don't know about the pad material. Bottom line...I don't know anyone in the area that has had brake work done, so I don't know if you will find any experience from this area to help you decide what to do next.

Check out this thread https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ghlight=brakes

Basically stock brakes are superior and the numbers on all magazines show that the RX-8 stock brakes and rotors are amazing and distances hold up to super cars... I would not blow a lot of money on anything fancy.. Drilled rotors ect. really only help if you race your car. Hope that helps.. I haven't had to change mine yet, but all 4 are half life at this point. with 28000 miles on my car. ... Justin

Brant,
You should come out to the Auto X next saturday and meet some other 8 owners.

Hey Brant!!

I have not had to do the brakes yet. I have close to 36k on the origanls so far with what seems to be about half life still left on them. I agree with Justin it sure would be great to see you and meet you next weekend on the 5th at the AutoX. How long have you had your 8?

Stinger you don't use brakes...only gas so we know why you're brakes have lasted so long! Okay, so you do use something other than the gas...the horn! Wait, that was MadDog...horn and wipers....

I hope everyone can make the AutoX on the 5th. I'm going to try, but work has me in Colorado next week and I'm not 100% sure I will be back in town on Saturday.

I'm heading to Colorado Springs, but I think this time I will take 285 instead of the Interstate. I haven't taken 285 in sometime, so I need to refresh my memory of the road. Plus I haven't ever taken it with the 8. I might need brakes and tires by the time I get back...lol Or a new horn.

Hope to see everyone at the Autox....

I might have to come back out with you guys on one of your drives again. I know it has been a while since I been on here. I picked up a S2000, to compliment the TSX. I miss the 8 more then I thought I would actually. I seen you not to long ago Justin (unless there is another black with black wheels) on I40 but you didn't look over and I couldn't get around the car in front of me. I will check back every now and then to see what is happening. Lata guys.

Howdy all! Well it looks like we might be able to make it to the autoX afterall. I postponed our plans for this weekend because of the wet forcast (we were going to tackle some major landscaping). I hope the weather doesn't spoil the fun for Saturday evening. Where exactly is the church and what time do the events start for the autoX? My wife and I would at least like to make an appearance and meet some of you.

Ronnie, I have a friend who has a S2000. You might want to hook up with him and his buds for a ride some time as well.

Hasta,
Craig
