Oh and Yes I did. I waved back. I was in the middle of a call, or I would have pulled into the middle lane and said hello.
When we getting together for another weekend run?

I have no idea. Hopefully my weekends and my life will besomwhat back to normal by the middle of Oct. This end of the fiscal year crap is for the birds! I have had to work every weekend since the 2nd weekend of Aug. except for Aug 27th & Labor Day. I really could use a nice unwinding winding drive!

It's too bad that more local 8 owners are not active in the club.. Would have loved to hear more about recalls in the area... I don't know if dealers really want to admit to engine changes to other 8 drivers. So I believe I am next in line for service.. I am having them look at my tranny.. it grinds when going to 2nd gear around 8,000 rpm range and my third gear is now doing the same thing. Doesn't happen often but grinds to the point you have to let RPM's drop to like 4000 before it will even sync again... I think I'm victim of the known tranny issue .. hope to have it replaced... but shall see.

NMOcho your tranny problems are likely the result of those screen mods...they will do it every time.
Several observations on the recall... mileage really hasn't changed. From all I can tell from ScanGauge data the numbers are the same as before the recall and might actually be a slight tad lower. Of course there are a million things that can cause a small change in mileage that it is often impossible to know the cause. From a performance stand-point the only change I can detect is the engine doesn't stumble from a dead stop like it use to. Is that the result of the new flash or the new plugs? Who knows. I like that improvement however.
Otherwise all seems the same as before the recall.

Well it will grind at random times. No matter what temp outside or the car or how I’m driving the car... third gear has only grinded 3 times (so could be my error), but second is probably once every few weeks. My dummy heat temp gauge stays well to the left of at all times. I have had the Oil Temp light come on once when doing a Top Speed run and that was while I was running 100+ for 50 miles in the Nevada. So I think the screens would maybe be a few degrees extra of temp during daily driving. Do you have a link to a thread that others complain of tranny issues with oil screens?
My reverse since day one often requires me to pull forward first to engage it. Dealer told me don't worry about it last year. I don't rev my car before shutting it down like some say will do the reverse thing. I usually let it idle a few before shutting it off. I change oil 3 to 4000 miles 90% at the dealer. Using Mazda recommended oil so they can't blame me for using wrong crap.

NMOcho....I was only joking about the screen. It just seems that at times dealers (although I haven't had any issues with the few mods I have with University) try their best to blame problems on the owner...the way he drives or the mods he has done.
I hope they are able to agree that there have been tranny problems and fix yours under warranty. My guess is the oil light came as a result of low levels in the pan. Seems others have reported the same kind of thing under similar conditions. Bottomline it shouldn't be an issue.
When are you taking the car in?

Very true about the dealers.....
Actually it's not the Low Oil light.. There is a Oil Temp warning light... different light than the low oil one.. Not sure what temp your oil gets too to triger it.
It goes to the shop on 10/12/06

The gauge is an oil pressure gauge. The pump will maintain the same pressure regardless of oil level (within reason).
Also, I'm hereby giving notice to my New Mexico brothers that I'm starting a custom turbo project. Components are being shipped as of today. Its going to be very different than the others that are springing-up. My goal is 320-350 whp. Stay tuned!!

there is a low oil light, that comes on when a quart low... There is a Hot Oil light too.. But the oil pressure guage would not move much for just a quart low.. as the oil pressure would be very close to what it should be...

hahaha.. The Sandwich Lunch guy... nice.... He's a cool kid. Name's Josh. Yeah, I've got both those bad boys on the way. The advantage is that those small turbos are REALLY efficient - like 80% at max boost and flow. It should be a nice setup.

My car went in for the Recall today at 9am. I got a call at about 11am that it was all done. Just two new plugs and the Flash update. Everything tested fine... I would not have minded a new engine or more items, as it would have been less things for me to replace down the road... But my engine has always run great.
They checked my transmissions and nothing that they could detect other than it needed two pumps of oil to top it off. Dealer said they have a check list for the recall to check, they then fax their findings to the main office, they respond back with what needs to be changed. I guess most 8’s are getting the two leading plugs and a CAT.
I have to say my car is running more smoothly after the plug change, but I do have 34000 miles on it so sure it was ready. No issues with the mods that I have made to the car.

Well I guess that is good to hear Ocho. But I alos know how you feel about the engine. I sure would not have minded a newer engine as well. Also those were some really nice times that you put down Saturday!

Just saw a wrecked 8 on the freeway...
I was driving home this evening and saw that there was a pretty badly wrecked grey RX-8 on the onramp from Westbound I-40 to Northbound I-25...
I hope they were all ok... sad to see an 8 banged up like that... Kewl, Maddog... you guys ok?

I haven't driven my 8 in about 2 weeks! My smog test is due and there's now way I would pass without the cat. So, I have a high-flow cat ready to put in, but haven't done it yet. Until I get that done I can't renew the tag, so it sits.... I've also started my new turbo project, so at least I've been doing something while it sits in the garage.
Bottom line: It wasn't me, either.

If any of you were wondering - not MadDog - if performance of the 8 improved when you went from our 5000 altitude to sea level, let me tell you first hand .....wow, what an improvement !!! I'm in Baytown TX, right on the Gulf, and it feels like a whole new car. Darn, cause I wouldn't move for this, especially this area.

on wet roads the tires (P-Zero Nero) suck...they break away fairly easy on powering from a stop...something like what maddog experienced leaving the track on that wet day. It does give one pause about the value (and fun) of a turbo.....even one with less than 12 pounds....

Well, I think there is a very logical place for us to get together. Have any of you been to the Rt 66 Karting track. I went for the first time yesterday and it is good times. I vote that we all gather out there and show them what us 8'ers can do on a track - with someone elses Kart!

Sounds interesting Chakara! While you were there did you by chance get any information as to the cost, what you need to provide ie helmet and such, & how long a session lasts?
