Ok - I'm looking for Controls Technicians for combustion equipment, welders and Pipefitters. Of course you'd be forced to relocate to Vegas. It was chance that you had some experience that I needed for my company and me having a good paying job for you.

Just like Jethro, most of the people working for me have been been with me for 10 years or more but growth is killing me.

That's interesting. I know a couple of the higher-ups at Bullfrog. Alex, who was either president or VP last time I talked to him, and Steve (Fliesher). Been awhile since I talked to them, though. It's been since before they moved into the new factory.

Hey, to all the local SLC/northern Utah area 8 owners- I've kind-of moved to the "other" RX-8 Website for my regular hang-out, and will only be checking-in here a few times a month. If you ask me something through a PM on this Website it may take a week or two for me to reply. Some of you have my email and I'll reply to emails within a day or two. Let's definitely plan a good run for springtime!

Jethro Tull 12-25-2007 11:36 PM

Hey WL, WN, MM, DD, SC, bose. Well my 8's been in the garage for 25 days now, absolutely no snow, salt or sand has touched it. I've started it and warmed it up every few days. It starts right up without even touching the gas pedal. So one month is just about over and only two more to go. I can't wait for March; hopefully the DOT won't be salting roads by then and spring rains will wash the salt and sand away. I'm determined to not drive this car in winter unless it's an absolute emergency.

I got my second set of rims a few weeks ago and picked up a second set of center inserts. I got the chrome Mazda logo because the rotary centers are $37 apiece!
I'll be shopping for a better set of tires than the Dunlops in a month or two, as soon as I get my tax return back from my accountant and know if I have some play money (refund) or not. I want to get a second set of TPMS units too. Then I can swap tire sets myself right in my own garage.

Hope you guys all had a Merry Christmas and Santa brought you what you wanted!

bose 12-27-2007 09:57 AM

Hey Jethro! Hope the withdrawls are getting better, just know that the 8 doesn't like the cold. Quick question for all does anyone know of a shop locally that know rotaries...other than the Mazda stealership? I don't trust the guys @ d dahle mazda of murray, they are asshats. I have a couple cels but don't wanna take it to those fools, please help if you can. Thank you in advance.

By the way the cel code that pulled we're.
p0126-insufficent temprature for stable operation-not getting to operating temp and. p0302-rear rotor misfire. I think this was caused by a spark plug wire had slipped off the plug last weekend I plugged it back in, but idk if the plug is completely fouled or not.

Opinions, comments, questions...please help.

Jethro Tull 12-28-2007 01:39 AM

I started it up tonight and warmed it up to operating temperature. Started right up. Let it run about 20 minutes until it was nice and toasty inside, listened to a CD, revved it up a few times and let it sit on 3000 for 15 seconds every minute or two for a few. Still clean as a whistle inside and out, just like it was when I parked it November 30th. Backed it out and rolled it forward a few times. Checked the tires and they haven't lost any air pressure in the month it's been parked. Oh, that reminds me, I have to re-plug the exhausts before I go to bed. Keeps the mice from getting ideas about setting-up housekeeping in the muffler...

seriouscoin1 12-31-2007 05:45 PM

bose, I actually just had to call mazda roadside. I started my car on christmas day and it threw a check engine. They towed it to D Dahle, and yes they are dousche's! They told me that the injector map settings were screwed all outa wak. Plus my plugs were all gunked up. So they reflashed it to the "'08 Calibration" what ever that is. It runs hella better now, almost smoother that when I bought it used. Just lettin ya know what happened to mine.

Jethro Tull 01-01-2008 01:53 AM

"My" dealership was Legacy Mazda, in Orem, but they are just too far away- and I found out that last fall they lost 3 techs. It was taking them forever to do the simplest stuff, like an oil change. 2 hours!
I'd heard about the problems with D. Dahle, so I switched to Bountiful Mazda- and found out that their general manager used to be my neighbor about ten years ago!
I'm sold on Bountiful Mazda now. They treat me like a king, listen carefully to what I have to say about the car, and are prompt. An added bonus is that it is very close to my office, so I can drop it off and they shuttle me to work and pick me up again when it's done.
No hassle at all that I bought the car at a different dealership. The service writer even noticed that I'd installed the clear corners and said it had no effect on the warranty because they are Mazda parts...and he liked the way it looked. They never even noticed the clears at Legacy.

DariusDemon 01-01-2008 03:43 AM

I had a check engine light come on awhile ago. took it to checker and they said it was because I was running lean. That didnt surprise me because I have an after market intake. I took it to D dahle just to make sure and they ran it through some kind of maintainance dealand passed it off as warranty even though they thought it was the intake too. So that was nice, However they said they wouldnt do it again lol. My engine light has been turning on and off again though recently and I havent had a chance to find out what it is yet. When the code said it was running lean the light was always on. I wonder if I'm getting the whole temperature probem too. After all I have to keep it parked outside in a car tent.

bose 01-01-2008 11:47 AM

Good to hear they got her running, for SC. Maybe I need the new flash, I think I'll take Jethro's recommend for bountiful mazda and see if I need it and have them change my thermostat. Darius do you know what the codes were? My temprature one is p0126 but I can tell it's the thermostat cause it goes to just below the middle and then drops to a quarter and the goes up on my journey to work, I think my car was meant to live in Hawaii she despises the cold.

I've got plugs and coils just need to install them and then get the dealership to change the t-stat she'll be perfect again.

Jethro Tull 01-01-2008 03:00 PM

Bose, I'd be interested in seeing where your temp. gauge sits in summertime.

Mine has only been run about every week and I've never had any temp related issues. I'll be warming it up again this afternoon.

Tell us how Bountiful Mazda treats you.

DariusDemon 01-02-2008 02:29 AM

No I dont remember the code. Sorry

bose 01-03-2008 09:34 AM

Well, the cel went off by itself the other day, I guess after a few drive cycles the ecu realized there was nothing wrong, changed the plugs, wires and coils and she runs better than when I picked her up. I'm just gonna monitor the temps and see if it returns.

Jethro, I'm not sure where she'll sit in the summer I got her in late september so I haven't driven her in hotter than 80.

Jethro Tull 01-03-2008 04:54 PM

When it's up to operating temp, my gague always sits at exactly the same place. The needle is about one and half ticks to the left of center. Never waivers, even when I drove it last summer in 100-degrees, with the AC cranked up.

tibetan_eskimo 01-03-2008 10:05 PM

Hey I live up in Logan, UT and bought my '06 new from Bountiful Mazda. I have free tires for life from them so I've been making the drive for service. I just wanted to say that their service department is fantastic, but like most places the salesman fed me a lot of lies and didn't put anything in writing except the stuff I really cared about. So a big thumbs up for the service department, but double thumbs down for the sales and financing knobs.

Jethro Tull 01-04-2008 01:23 AM

Post on this forum a day before you come "down" here next time, tibetan eskimo, and maybe we can get together.

I have the tires for life, too- but I bought a second set of rims and will be buying a second set of tires soon. The stock Dunlops sure seem loud to me. What tire are you running? How many miles have you got on them so-far?

tibetan_eskimo 01-04-2008 09:39 PM

Right now I'm running 17's with winter tires, the tires for life program I have an option of either the bridgestone potenza re040's or kumho ecsta's. I've heard really good things about the kumho's so i might try them even though they are the less expensive option for the dealer. The potenza's are really noisy also, I noticed the winter tires are far more quiet. I had about 11k on them before I swapped out for the winter tires.

Jethro Tull 01-05-2008 11:48 PM

Today after I shoveled the driveway, the sun came out and it dried-up in a couple of hours. I started the 8 and warmed it up, then backed it down the driveway (my driveway is over 80 feet long) and drove up and down a few times to limber everything up. The first few times I braked, the brakes squeaked but after a few fast stops, the squeak disappeared. Once it was at operating temperature and had been warm for a while, I backed down to the end of the driveway and revved it up, did a fast start headed for the garage. Left a nice 5 foot-long patch on the driveway! Then I wiped her down - took some brake dust off the rims, did the windows, and parked her back on the carpet. Stuffed the rags back up the exhaust and put the cover back on until next time, about a week.

I wish spring would hurry up and get here.

seriouscoin1 01-06-2008 06:24 PM

Well, I had to take mine back again and what do ya know the check engine was on again for p0610 ecm re-tuned incorrectly. Now it actually shut off and runs fine wierd tho!

Jethro Tull 01-06-2008 11:14 PM

I'm sure glad you got to keep your car, seriouscoin. Sounds like you've got a handle on the family finances.

seriouscoin1 01-09-2008 08:45 PM

So far the finances are okay. Still a little iffy! I also have the kumho ecsta's for the rear and the potenza's in front. The potenza's are noisy! Needed the rear sooner of course but will soon get the kumhos in the front.

Jethro Tull 01-15-2008 01:24 PM

So how often are you guys who are driving your 8 all winter washing your cars? Are you doing the underside, wheel-wells, and the engine compartment too?

Anybody use a wash/detailing service? How much?

bose 01-16-2008 01:10 PM

I wash her at least once a week outside. in the engine bay she is still clean as a whistle from my engine compartment detail in late oct. underside I haven't done. need to though, I just want winter to go to hell.

Jethro Tull 01-16-2008 11:36 PM

OK guys, I couldn't stand it anymore and took my 8 out for an afternoon drive. The roads near home were dry and I picked a few with no salt. Got home from work, parked the Explorer and jumped in the 8. Warmed it up for a few minutes and then took off down the road!

This is what's been missing from life for the past month and a half. The car ran like a champ. I'm glad I kept the insurance in-force.

Just as the sun went down, I pulled back into the garage and put my baby back to bed for a few more weeks.

I can't wait for spring, when I can take it out just about anytime I want. But today definitely felt good to get behind the wheel again.

I love this car!

DariusDemon 01-17-2008 07:55 AM

I wash mine almost every friday, snow or shine. I usually switch off between doingit manually and doing the automatic for the under-side. My engine desperetly needs a washin though.

bose 01-17-2008 09:54 AM

good to hear you got your fix. I just took my girl to bountiful mazda for the cel it came back. misfire rotor 2 even after plugs and coils we're change so now I'm gonna let the 'experts' look at it. I keep updated on here on how they are and so forth.

(-White Ninja-) 01-17-2008 04:05 PM

so when i sold mine I thought i would never get in the seat again but now my friend bought one pretty much just like mine. and i took it to the Ogden Bdo''s and boy did i open her up lol my after the drive my friend looked at me and all he could say was.. "Dude! What The Hell" lol now he claim i owe him new tires... Pssshhh. :evil_laug

Jethro Tull 01-17-2008 11:14 PM

^^Did you have any flashbacks? lol!

Jethro Tull 01-19-2008 12:05 AM

If it's sunny and dry on Saturday (1/19), I'm going to drive the 8.

(-White Ninja-) 01-19-2008 10:31 AM

lol yeah i had flash back. lol it made me Miss my baby lol

Jethro Tull 01-19-2008 11:15 PM

I drove her tonight and it was GOOD.

The car never missed a beat. No way at all to tell that it's been hibernating for over 7 weeks. Pulled strong, idled smooth.

This car is happy when you drive it fast. So is the driver.

Snow tomorrow, my baby is tucked back in her bed.

Jethro Tull 01-19-2008 11:17 PM

I did notice, though, that the range on my key remote was about half of what it used to be. Probably time for a new battery. Anybody had to replace their remote battery yet?

(-White Ninja-) 01-20-2008 12:51 PM

Before i Sold my I Noticed the Range Start to die. and then it just Shut off lol so i went bought a new Battery and that didn't work the Remote must of went out.

seriouscoin1 01-20-2008 10:46 PM

Well the check engine popped on again, so D Dahle mazda is currently installing a new ECM. They gave me a new rental car though, its nice.

DariusDemon 01-21-2008 05:48 AM

mine keeps coming on and off! It drives me nuts cause it's never on when I actually have time to take it over

bose 01-21-2008 11:14 AM

Bountiful Mazda says I need a new engine, and they won't cover it due to intake and exhaust. They are voiding my warranty, though The Magnuson Moss act says they have to prove my parts caused the problem, they refused and said it's my job to prove they didn't do it. ILLEGAL. So now I have to fight tooth and nail to try and get them to fix it. Oh and I found out they (bountiful mazda) rebuilt this engine 10,000 miles ago, sounds like they didn't do it right. I'm ready to freak out on those guys  . but I know it won't help I just have to keep my cool and get it resolved.

Jethro Tull 01-22-2008 09:24 AM

And that, gentlemen, is probably the number one reason why I won't mod this car. Being a conservative old fart sometimes has it's advantages.

Good luck, bose, hope you get it resolved before the weather gets nice again.

Jethro Tull 01-22-2008 04:27 PM

I'm tempted to buy a second engine and keep it stored for the day when my extended warranty is up and I actually have to foot the bill myself. It's definitely going to cost more in the future so maybe getting one now isn't such a bad idea. Of course, the warranty is still good for 5 more years.

Rebuild ~$2,000 (and your old core) New ~$6,000 (Mazda direct)

Installation extra.

DariusDemon 01-23-2008 04:47 AM

That really sucks Bose. I'm sorry!

Phil's 8 01-23-2008 07:20 AM

Sounds like the same people that own the Vegas Mazda dealerships.

Jethro Tull 01-23-2008 04:11 PM

So, do owners with unmodded cars have relatively smooth warranty experiences?

I've only had one, very minor warranty issue, (a leaky switch on the tranny) and it was about the smoothest experience I could have asked for, at the same dealership that bose is locking horns with.

Does the good, freebie warranty service disappear the moment you bolt on a non-Mazda part?

(-White Ninja-) 01-24-2008 11:15 AM

when i had mine it was all smooth drop the car off. pick it up not dime spend Freeway Mazda in Riverdale is a Good One

bose 01-24-2008 03:32 PM

Yeah I'm not sure I think it's a combo of how I look and the car I picked, they think young kid too stupid to realize we're screwin him plus he has an rx8 and none of us know anything so let's tell him he's out of warranty and then he'll go away. either that or it's because they already replaced this engine and they don't want to do it again. I don't know, I must of pissed God off somthing fierce to be getting up the tailpipe this hard.

Jethro Tull 01-25-2008 01:13 AM

I've read of a couple people who are on their third engine under warranty, but not sure if they had any mods.
