Yep.. That is my evil plan... I want to keep the WRX and get the RX8 on the side and have that as my garage queen.. The only thing is that I would have to park the WRX outside now... maybe I can have my wife park outside?? ok ok.. Fine let me get the RX8 first and then we can see.. I dont wanna push it so soon..lol.

bose 04-14-2008 10:29 AM

Only half full of beer fireworks and porn.:ylsuper:

Klone 04-15-2008 03:05 PM

My WRX is finally parked outside, but it is not bad. I throw a cover on it and it has held up rather nicely.

Jethro Tull 04-16-2008 04:12 PM

Hey, guys, those WRX's were MADE for the snow and slush- no worries!

Jethro Tull 04-16-2008 11:32 PM

Saturday's going to be nice. Thanks to bose, I may be cruising up the canyon to check-out a 1981 FB RX-7 for a project car. Whoo-hoo! (Thanks, Mike!)

bose 04-17-2008 09:41 AM

would be very awesome if it's in good condition, keep me posted. Good luck.

Jethro Tull 04-17-2008 01:49 PM

Who was this?

I was going to lunch today, and a guy in a white 8 just blew-by me (I was in my old Explorer). Anybody on 8club?

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...958/white8.jpg

This was getting on I-215 southbound from Redwood Road in North Salt Lake at about noon today (Thursday). The car sounded throaty, like an aftermarket exhaust. I took the photo with my cell phone so the quality isn't the best. Whoever it was, was right in front of me going around the curve on the freeway on-ramp.

Anybody? I think the license plate was 415USS.

Phil's 8 04-18-2008 06:55 AM

Jethro, any move afoot in Utah for a caravan to Seven Stock??? We are planning one here and thought maybe a meet up in Vegas.

Not among the 8 owners that I'm in contact with, although there might be something going on with the local 7 owners. The Salt Lake rotary board is almost exclusively 7 drivers and I'm just a marginal figure there.

Ok, the 7s in most areas like to be separate. Some here would join us, most will not. Just checking if you have a Seven Stock contingent caravaning in that wished to join up with a group here.

Jethro Tull 04-22-2008 10:14 AM

Any Utah locals ever taken the nose off their car? I've been told it's not difficult, but having replaced body panels on other cars before, I know that getting things re-aligned can sometimes be a pain in the @ss.

bose 04-22-2008 03:34 PM

Yeah, it really is very easy, it's easiest to remove both front wheels put it on jackstands. then it's like 25 plastic clips and 10 screws, and some electrical clips. It only takes 20 min, maybe less. I've had mine off like 4 times.

Jethro Tull 04-22-2008 10:38 PM

^^And everything lines up perfectly when you put it back on?

bose 04-23-2008 12:29 AM

yeah lines up great, it's obscenly easy.

Jethro Tull 04-23-2008 11:29 PM

The headlights stay on the car, right? Only the corner lights are attached to the plastic nose shell, yes?

bose 04-24-2008 01:22 PM

Yep, those two on the lights, then all the wheel well clips in the front, you take the 'lower' portion of it off completely on both sides. Then all the screws on the front lip where the undertray mounts. and the 6 clips under neath. Reach in the wheel well and undo the harness for the fog lights and the side markers. On top there are 6 push pin/clips for the black panel on top, then after that's out of the way there are two small white push pins and 4 screws once this is done your ready to remove, best to have two people but if not no biggie. go to the wheel wells first and pull VERY GENTLY up and out, you don't have to pull hard, do this on both sides then once they are out of their 'grooves' the middle will come up pull up and out again (also gently) and viola!

this is what I am pulling from my memory, so it's not exact but almost spot on. What are you planning? Oil cooler/radiator screens?

Jethro Tull 04-24-2008 01:55 PM

Yes, I'm shopping around now and would like to put some on before I take any road trips this summer.

I also want to fix a few paint chips and it would be easier with the nose off.

bose 04-24-2008 03:24 PM

Yeah, it's really like a 15-20 min process if you have someone that's done it before, this first time I took like 2.5 hours cause I was so nervous about breaking it.

DariusDemon 04-24-2008 08:27 PM

Speaking of taking bumpers off...I just got some clear corners. Jethro think maybe you wanna help me put those babies in?

kobe24mvp 04-24-2008 11:35 PM

they're really easy to put in.. like 15 min to put both on. just look for the do it yourself for it here

Jethro Tull 04-25-2008 12:26 AM

Sure! Love to help. And kobe's right, it's a snap.

Don't do it until you get some amber bulbs or LED's first, though, or the cops could pull you over.

Jethro Tull 04-28-2008 09:17 AM

Local board's been dead for a few days...you guys still alive?

I drove the 8 out to Stansbury Park last night and used the big telescope for a couple of hours. It was a nice drive, but the lake stinks something fierce, and the nose of the car is covered with dead bugs! Going to wash it after work today.

bose 04-28-2008 10:12 AM

I'm still here lurking. Just been crazy busy at work, no time to screw around like normal. But it's finally calming, a bit.

Hey I might have driven past you out on I-80.. I was driving back from the miller motorsports park yesterday in the afternoon. What color 8 do you have again?

bose 04-28-2008 12:58 PM

Not alot of driving done this weekend, but I did install my new intake and painted my engine cover. Did alot of yard work too, fun stuff.

Jethro Tull 04-28-2008 01:22 PM

She's Sunlight Silver, kobe.

bose 04-28-2008 05:06 PM

Ss Ftmfw!!!!

kobe24mvp 04-28-2008 08:35 PM

well yeah i drove past a silver rx8 on the way back from there.. i was in a maxima though

Jethro Tull 04-28-2008 11:45 PM

I was westbound from about 7:15 to 7:40 pm, so if it was in that timeframe, it probably was me.

Jethro Tull 04-28-2008 11:47 PM

Today I washed the bugs off the car from my trip to Stansbury on Sunday, detailed it inside and out, vacuumed the carpet in the garage that I park it on, parked it and put the cover on for a few days.

The wind is supposed to blow tomorrow and if it's as bad as last week, it's going to be dusty. I'm hoping keeping the car in the garage and covered will keep it clean until the weather is decent again.

Yes, you read correctly. I park my 8 on carpet in the garage.

bose 04-30-2008 08:49 AM

I am envious, my poor car gets no garage treatment.

Damn this weather to hell.

Jethro Tull 05-02-2008 12:03 AM

Hey, Darius, what's the word? Is that black beauty back on the road?

DariusDemon 05-02-2008 08:19 PM

Heck yes it is! but guess what? something put a nice 4 inch scratch along the side of my brand new driver side fender! I know I didnt do it cause it curves up and over towards the hood. I am soooo uber pissed. *sigh* Anyway other than and the clear corners I still need to install It's looking perfect. no more rock chips;) I really need to install the clear corners though. they're the only thing on my car with color besides the tail lights. They stand out way ban now that I have no front emblem(which looks great by the way)

Xiphoid 05-04-2008 10:56 PM

I just got Tein S springs, do guys know a good place to install them under $300?

bose 05-05-2008 12:37 PM

forgive me darius, but where do you live again? I would help you put those in if you want, it's way easy take 5 min a side.

And Xiphoid, anywhere that does suspension could do it. Hell I could do it, just couldn't corner balance them for you. But they really aren't that difficult.

Xiphoid 05-05-2008 05:58 PM

I donīt have the tools nor the place to install them, I checked with a couple of places, either they donīt install cusomer parts or charge pretty high, Big O tire quoted me $350 with out the allignment :Eyecrazy:

MILITARYMAN 05-05-2008 11:45 PM

Xiphoid 05-06-2008 02:21 AM

looking to pay under $300 for installation + alignment

MILITARYMAN 05-06-2008 11:56 AM

i bought my winning blue for 13000 i not really in a position to do that so maybe a better deal this time

Jethro Tull 05-06-2008 03:25 PM

MILITARYMAN, it's going to probably be 4 years old with high mileage, to get into an 8 for less than 13 grand...are you prepared to deal with the maintenence issues of a high-mileage '04? And if it needs new rubber, there's another six hundred, at least, and probably closer to a thousand for really good tires.

There's a gray one for sale in my neighborhood, but I think he wants something like 16 thousand. Want me to cruise by and get the number off the sign? Maybe you can talk him down.

I feel badly for you. My 8 spent the winter snug as a bug in the garage, parked on a big piece of carpeting (with plastic underneath as a moisture barrier).

If you can bring it by my shop in North Salt Lake during the day, I can do them for you. Like bose said, it's only about five or ten minutes per side.

I'm usually here until 3:30 pm during the week, M-Th. PM me if you can swing it and I'll give you directions.

Got yellow bulbs or LED's yet? I wouldn't install them with clear bulbs- too risky for a ticket.

You might ask around on the SLCRotary board. That's where the local rotary mechanics hang out. Mostly RX-7 drivers, but I'll bet that one of 'em could help you.

Yep, that's the one. Did he replace the windshield yet? Last time I looked, it had a huge crack in it. His sticker expired in April, so if he didn't replace the windshield then he didn't renew his tag.

Man, that sucks that you wiped-out the old one. It's sad when an 8 goes to that big wrecking yard in the sky. :(

Have you noticed a red one cruising around our neighborhood? It's driven by a little girl, either Asian or Hispanic, from what I can tell in passing.

RoXas585 05-07-2008 02:09 AM

Hi everyone,

I just recently bought an '04 RX-8 about a month ago. I am loving it. Its a dark forest green (I don't know the exact color name) with 19" aftermarket rims. I live in the Sandy/Draper area. Whatever group rides you guys do, I would totally be down. Just thought I would introduce myself as a noob to the board. Hope to meet you all some time. I would really appreciate some advice for upkeep or any general information about the 8.

Thanks!

bose 05-07-2008 09:13 AM

Welcome my friend, the color is called Nordic Green. Great color, I live in Sandy also I have silver 8. Any questions you have just post here or pm, I'm more than happy to help.

Basically you'll want to check your oil everyonce and a while, I usually check every Sat/Sun. as part of my cleaning. How many miles are on it and is it manual or auto? Again welcome to the club.

Welcome, RoXas585, good to have another local! We haven't done anything yet this year since the weather has sucked big-time until recently, but I think a cruise in the near future is a definite possibility.

RoXas585 05-07-2008 11:39 AM

Thanks for the heads up on the color name bose. It has 80k miles, so definitely alot. Its a 6sp manual.

Last week it actually completely died on me. It was still under warranty from the place that I bought it from so they towed it and took care of it. Apparently it was the ignition coils, so they replaced them and it seems to be running fine now. I do have one other issue however. It seems to be getting abnormally low mileage... like 12-13 mpg. I'm not driving it like an idiot or anything. Anyone know what it could be or what I should do?

Also, is there a recommendation for oil brand and type that works well with the 8 and where to take it for changes?

thanks all for the welcome and help!
