Father's Day is next Sunday, so I can't get away that day. Saturday is a firm maybe. Friday night we're going to the Bees game so that's out.

I was the only 8 at the SL Rotary meet on Saturday- where were all you guys? You missed your chance to see a 3-rotor engine.

I couldn't stay for the BBQ, but met up with a couple of guys I first met nearly 30 years ago. We had first gen. RX-7's back then.

Today was so nice I drove my 8 to work. It's not a daily driver, though, so tomorrow I'm back to the Explorer.

Yep, got mine.

But it's not an extension of the entire engine and drivetrain warranty. The extension is for the engine core only. Meaning apex seals, really.

4 Ounce Plastic Squeeze Bottles

These are perfect for pre-mix. One whole bottle is enough premix for exactly 1/2 tank. They have a pointed spout to make it easy to add the oil to your gas tank.

I'm premixing at half the recommended rate, so one whole bottle is what I add to a full tank.

I have at least half a dozen of these, brand new, if any locals want them. First come, first served and I'll bring them to the next meet or cruise, or maybe I could meet you halfway somewhere if it's not too far.

They are FREE

maul 06-09-2008 04:43 PM

Sorry I did not make it on Saturday, horrible hangover :( we should meet again soon, enjoy this short summer we are getting! GT LIVE is at the end of the month, lets get together with the rest of the local rotary owners and drive up there

Jethro Tull 06-09-2008 10:07 PM

Sorry folks, I won't be at GT LIVE. I got the days off work but it's our wedding anniversary- and my wife just isn't into cars at all. There's no way I can get away that weekend. Have fun, take pictures. :)

DariusDemon 06-10-2008 09:01 AM

I have a BB too and I used to live in sandy. I know i saw at least one of you guys alot. usually near 106th and 13th. Mines the one with the black/chrome rims and a batman sticker. Sound familiar?
I might be able to meet up this weekend. I at 8pm though fri and sat...i think....have to check on that.

bose 06-10-2008 02:13 PM

I was in Texas over the weekend so I missed it, sounds like I missed a good one too, man that really grinds my gears.

Roxas, if you want I will come help you install that if you want other wise just pm me and I'll give you my number so you can call when you do need a pointer or whatever.

Jethro I will take one of those bottles just bring it to the next meet. I have been looking but couldn't find one.

I'm always driving around, darius what color is the 8 you see I go by 106 and 13th a couple times a day, I drive a SS with a loud exhaust.

rx8snowboard 06-10-2008 02:40 PM

I saw a silver 8 yesterday that was going south on 13th E. and turned up 106th. I don't think he/she saw me though, was that you bose?

bose 06-10-2008 03:18 PM

Depends on what time it was, but it was most likely me I went by there three times but it was after 6.

rx8snowboard 06-10-2008 04:00 PM

I thought so, it looked pretty clean and I expect that anyone who is a member here keeps the 8 clean :mdrmed:

bose 06-11-2008 09:32 AM

Yeah, It musta been me I had just washed it. and then it rains today always happens. Washing it again tomorrow.

Saturday I can meet anytime, maybe somewhere in Murray, central location for most I assume. Maybe grab some food and go on a cruise.

rx8snowboard 06-11-2008 11:47 AM

yup, gotta wash mine again :) I would rather meet early. Have you clogged your arteries on a baconator from McDonalds?

bose 06-11-2008 12:37 PM

McDonald's has a baconator too. I've had the Wendy's baconater and holy shit that's alot of grease.

rx8snowboard 06-12-2008 05:41 PM

oops, I meant Wendy's. Yeah, lots of grease :) There was a silver 8 last night at century 16 that raced a little with me down 215, anyone?

bose 06-13-2008 09:23 AM

wasn't me. So who's down for a meet tomorrow? Anyone going to the drag races at RMR tonight?

rx8snowboard 06-13-2008 02:45 PM

Oh, I forgot about RMR.. We should meet and then head over there. I can pretty much meet up anytime tomorrow

bose 06-13-2008 02:55 PM

I'm down to meet before hand. I'll be down in Riverton about 119th s. and 9th w.

DariusDemon 06-13-2008 08:00 PM

Usually the 8's I see in sandy are BB like mine. Besides I've seen your car Bose, I'd know it if I saw it ;). I'd love o go to the drags tonight but I work :( I could do soemthing during the day tomorrow tohugh. I work at 8pm.

rx8snowboard 06-14-2008 02:16 PM

So who is up for a meet today?

DariusDemon 06-15-2008 04:55 PM

yeah im thinking we really need to do just set a date thats a decent way in the future so we dont keep doing this last minute scramble thing. That way every can be prepared and everyone can make it.

bose 06-16-2008 09:21 AM

Jethro Tull 06-17-2008 02:11 PM

Welcome!

Funny you mention a new differential. I just read that on the '09's, Mazda has changed the differential ratio to help accelleration. I wonder if you could swap-out an old ring and pinion for the new set?

I may be up for a get-together this weekend. Even if we don't cruise we could meet for coffee or something.

04rx8gr 06-18-2008 01:53 PM

diff

Id imagine you could swap theres not much to them. . . . and yes it does drasticly help :)

I replaced the ring & pinion on my '77 Plymouth Arrow for the same reason; at the time MoPar had the part available and it did make a noticeable difference on that car (that was before all of you were born, lol), along with the cute little header I put on it.

I guess if the '09 RX-8 is identical in all other respects, it would be a straight swap in our cars. But pricey.

It's also critical to get them installed perfectly. If the gear mesh isn't just right, the gears will "sing" as you drive. The faster you drive, the louder the noise. This indicates excessive wear- and that accoustical energy also means heat is being generated, and a small amount of power loss.

04rx8gr 06-18-2008 03:01 PM

hmm

Yea . . .it would prob be way pricey from them!

bose 06-18-2008 03:38 PM

Yeah I meant weekend after next, it is the 28-29th. But this weekend gonna be great weather maybe we could meet saturday during the day and go to Molly Greens and grab a beer and a bite? It will be a great drive, anyone?

04rx8gr 06-18-2008 05:35 PM

Ugh. . .

I have my car show in southern utah fri and sat so sun is my only available day. .. haha and No bueno on the Beer!!! haha Im only 19 and dont have a fake id. . .

bose 06-19-2008 08:52 AM

Ah yes that could be a problem, damn youngin's. :lol2: Oh well we should grab a bite somewhere else then do a canyon run is all I'm sayin.

04rx8gr 06-19-2008 10:17 AM

HEy

lol,, , But ya it should be a decent run .. sounds so far like there should be alot of people going. We were thinking meet up around 2 or 230 then take the run. .. ( dont worry we can eat sometime in there haha):lol2:

DariusDemon 06-19-2008 11:05 AM

I just went canyon carving up east canyon with my buddy in his S2000. That was a blast. East canyon looks like friggin Scotland from the top right now.

bose 06-19-2008 11:28 AM

Sweet, is your buddie s2k yellow? I got beat up big cottonwood by one a couple months ago, bloody things are light and quick.

Saturday around 2? works for me, don't really care if/when we eat just somthing to do. I'm more for the driving anyways.

04rx8gr-did you do the limited slip and clutch yourself? I want to swap final drives but don't want to deal with outrageous labor costs.

04rx8gr 06-19-2008 01:54 PM

yea

I do all my own work. . . . :) paying someone is useless! :):bootyshak

bose 06-19-2008 02:04 PM

Nice, my sentiments exactly. My only problem is I don't have all the know how...yet. I'm looking at two swaps currently may need to employ your knowledge, if you don't mind.

Jethro Tull 06-19-2008 02:12 PM

I disagree, gents.

My time is a lot more valuable than a mechanic's shop rate. Additonally, I always choose someone who offers some kind of guarantee in the event of a problem. Thirdly, I won't put myself into a possible warranty voiding situation with a car this new. If I wanted a new differential gearing, for example, I'd buy Mazda and have Mazda put it in, thus preserving my warranty.

I've had my car 15 months, and still only have 5800 miles on it. I'm going to take the warranty to the limit on time, not mileage. I paid a lot of money for an extended warranty- 8 years, 100,000 miles, for EVERYTHING- not just the "engine core" warranty extension.

So if I get the urge to mod it before then, it's going to be with Mazdaspeed parts, at a Mazda dealership.

Mike, I know you are down on dealership service, but you just admitted yourself that you lack the experience. What are your options if you massively screw something up that you did yourself? "Joe Rotary" who owns two RX-7's and has been doing it for years might be willing to help you drop something in, but is he willing to buy a replacement for you when the first one blows-up?

04rx8gr 06-19-2008 02:35 PM

haha well

Some of our cars dont have that low of miles like mine haha i have 80 K so i really dont care haha Plus i have my 2yr degree in automotive repair :) But more power to you . . I bought my car to mod the heck outta it not just drive it :)

Jethro Tull 06-19-2008 02:56 PM

Oh, I understand. When I was your age, I spent a lot of time upgrading my car, too. And it was fun then, I have to admit it.

People change as they get older. Probably only one in a hundred of the young people who like to work on their cars will still be enthusiastic about it when they turn 50. You'll see, your priorities might change, too. My next-door neighbor is a professional mechanic. Makes good money at it, too. But he refuses to work on cars on his own time now, won't do it at ALL, lol. Pisses him off to have to even put a new set of plugs in his engine. Says he'd rather be in his boat, on the lake. He doesn't even own a car, just an F350 pickup that he only uses to tow his fifth-wheel and boat around. He never drives that truck for anything else. Seven years old and still looks brand new.

Out of curiosity, how many hours did you spend studying the rotary engine in your 2-year program? Was it local? SLCC?

bose 06-19-2008 05:25 PM

Yeah, I may not have all the know how yet, but I will in time and at this point Chuck I have no choice anyways, I have NO warranty so if ANYTHING breaks I'm on my own anyways. And I don't wanna pay for Mazda parts=twice the cost.

So to each their own. If I had a warranty I may feel differently but...:icon_no2:

04rx8gr 06-20-2008 11:16 AM

Hmm

actually studied 6 months in class and then just everyday learning more things as i go on :) But hey I need to know whos all going so we dont leave anyone behind on Sunday, We are going to meet at 2:00 PM at Sugarhouse Park, If you dont know where that is ask for :eyetwitch Directions I NEED A HEAD COUNT !!
