So, who's still on the road?

Who is garaging their 8's for the winter, and who is going to brave the Utah roads for the next 3 months?

I'm gonna be snow drifting it up first winter in a rear wheel drive vehicle, used to have a protege and it did well, except for the first time I ever drove in snow. Just gonna throw some bizzaks on her or somthing.

I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving Day. I've been particularly blessed for most of my life, and believe me, I am grateful for it. Never got rich, but then you don't measure blessings in riches.

This car is just icing on the cake! And tomorrow I get to show it off to relatives!

Light manufacturing. Mostly fiberglass, some wood and metal.
I manage the tooling department and only have seven in my group, but in production there are over 100 employees. I oversee composite pattern, tool, and mold fabrication for the company.

Most "line" people are only hired through a temp. agency and have to get through a probationary period of at least 3 months before getting hired as full-time, regular employees- and the temp agency pays squat. My department only hires skilled people with experience so I can waive the probationary temp. requirement in most cases. The problem is, my department has very low turnover. Most of my staff has been with me for nearly 20 years.

But if there's an opening, I'll surely let you know.

Today I shoveled my 100-foot-long double-wide driveway for the first time this season. There was 6" of snow down next to the street but it was drifted closer to 8" up next to the house. It's a great workout. I told my wife that I wasn't getting a snow-blower until I needed one.

The 8 is snug in the garage for the winter. I put 6-mil plastic down on the concrete floor as a moisture barrier, and a double-layer of carpet over that, so the tires won't develop a flat spot. I have a cover but haven't put it on yet. I need to get some CD's out of the Bose this weekend.

I found a set of 4 stock rims and sent-off a MO yesterday. Hopefully they'll be here by about the 10th. I am going to get an extra set of TPMS transmitters for them in January, and then shop for a second set of tires that are better than the Dunlops I'm running now. Hopefully quieter too. I want to keep my car visibly stock and really like the stock rims anyway, but they are $495 ea. from Mazda BN, so I've been shopping. The set I bought is used but in BN condition with no curb rash, and I only paid $170 ea. It will be interesting to see how different tires feel when the car comes out of retirement in March.

I put new tires on the Ford a couple of weeks ago and after today's snow, I'm glad I did. The rear tires were almost bald.

So, it has begun. I'm in the old Explorer for the next 90 days or so, until the spring rains come and wash away the road salt. Gonna be a loooong, boring 3 months, as far as driving is concerned.

I just spent $750 on some new all season tires. They'd better do the trick! So far so good...

Which tire did you get?

I've heard that about 200 lbs. of weight (sandbags) in the trunk will help get you more traction.

not nessicarily cheap but wheels and tires are a great way to do both. Look good and add performance. Just make sure the tires you get are at least 8.5 or up cause you get that much more rubber on the ground=better handling, getting the same 8 in wide tire won't do anything for handling but will look cool. But also keep in mind wider tires are going to up the $$$. that's one way to do both, the rest are obvious intake, exhaust, pulley's, but don't expect a whole lot of hp gains from these, the only really good way to seriously up the hp is to go FI. Hope that helps.

We should start thinking about some kind of spring or early summer cruise pretty soon, so everyone can plan for it.

I'm thinking of maybe a cruise to Wendover, lunch, then back home. Sometime April, May, or June. I'd thought about an overnighter at a casino, but I can't bring myself to leave my 8 overnight in a parking lot, especially around all those drunk gamblers who may have lost more than they could afford to and carry a grudge out the door with them as they stumble to their own cars or the Fun Bus.

We could take spouses/significant others if we wanted.

Who's up for it? Even if you're not old enough to gamble, they'll still let you in for lunch.

hmm I'm always down for a dover run! However I still think a canyon run is in order at some point in the future too. If we're going to put our 8's together we might as have them do what they're meant to do, put them where they're meant to be. And that's in the corners. Hey Military man, one thing you can do if you want sound is get newer model K&N air intake. I bought mine with it already installed and honestly that's one of the reasons I bought it. That sound... It's freakin music. If you want I'll meet you somewhere sometime and you can hear it for yourself. Oh and as for gains in horsepower, like I said I bought it like that so If there is a noticable difference with it installed I couldn't tell you what it is. As for visuals/performance, I think my next mod will be cross drilled and slotted rotars. I love how those look and I've already got the rims to show them off. They're also cheap

I'm up for a canyon run, too- but not until the snow is melted and the roads aren't half wet from run-off.

I'm off the road completely until March at the earliest.

I just had a big scare! I checked my dip stick and had some foamy cappuccino type stuff on it. Thought I blew something. Talked to the mazda tech at bountiful mazda. He told me that happens alot with rotary motors. The condensation goes to the tube the dipstick is in and stays. That scared the s$@% outa me!

There are several intake out, seaching is a good way to find all of them. I have the AEM intake, which is the exact same as the mazdaspeed, If you want a really easy install these are not the ones you want, then there is the racing beat intake, k&n typhoon version 2, HKS has a really sick one but cost is up there. Arc make an induction box that looks really nice but again $$$.

As far a pulleys go there is a sticky in the mods section that has all of them, I only know of the unorthodox set, the agency power underdrive pulley. Hope that helps.

I had the same froth on my dipstick and i was like found out it happens all the time with rotary engines, happened to the rx7 too. They have a fix for it but mazda wants to charge 650 for it, and since it doesn't hurt anything I will just deal with it, I can still check my oil sooo...

I didn't notice huge power gain really, little more responsive throttle, feels like it has a bit more pull from 3-5 than before, and once I get up into the 6500 and up it gets really loud, but it sounds really throaty, very good IMO. before I put the Greddy exhaust on people thought I already had one on.

Well at the time I posted that I was working for bull frog spas as a reciever. But I just got certified today as an armed guard. So we'll see how that goes. However I'll still only be making $10/hr. Experience wise, the only work I've done since Highschool until now was delivery and warehouse jobs. I've got experience on pretty much every kind of warehouse "vehicle" there is.
