I just picked up a second job manufacturing custom concrete countertops and sinks. With my new source of income I'm going to be saving up for the Auto Exe kit. I really like white on the RX-8 and I'm toying with the idea of having my entire car repainted when I get the kit installed. Can any of you recommend an excellent shop to get this done? Also, what might I expect to pay to do something like this?
PS- If anyone is in the market for custom concrete countertops or tables, drop me a line! :D |
I called a couple natural gas conversion shops around the valley (grand total of 2), and they said it could be done, but the conversion kit has to be EPA certified. There is not a conversion kit for a rotary engine out there EPA certified, and he said that he couldn't even preform a conversion without it. :shrugs: I guess it's too expensive to produce an EPA certified kit, and there aren't any rotary engines out there looking to convert...

I finally got my RX-8 back from Bountiful Mazda yesterday... (I should say that I got it back from Murdock Chevrolet, who does the body work for Bountiful Mazda.) Almost 3 weeks ago, someone tried to steal the car... They did about $2,000 worth of damage to the car... It was miserable seeing all of you out there in your RX-8's for the three weeks while I was behind the wheel of a truck. ;)
Anyway, I remember some posts from Project a time ago... Did you ever get around to fixing your dents and bumper? If so, did they have to order replacement parts? How long did it take? I understand the RX-8 is new and that most places don't have the parts immediately available, but three weeks?! |
Shoulda called Trussville or Rosenthal. =) They seem to stock damn near everything.
Good to hear you're back on the road, Jiven!!! Plannin' on cruisin' up to Denver with us? --Landon |
:shakes head: Count me out. I have to admit, I don't own the RX-8 anymore... :\
|
DAMMIT ALL TO HELL....
Just got wonderful news today...(sarcasm exuding from every possible pore on me).
We're in the process of losing a VP at my bank, and yours truly gets stuck with pickin' up the slack. What this incurs, is a god damn trip to San Francisco from, yep, you guessed it, Thursday June 3rd through Monday evening, June 7th. $#!@%$^%$#^%%$#@%$@#. Looks like I won't be able to make it to Denver, boys. BULLSHIT. Sorry everyone, I went recruiting telling everyone how cool it was going to be, etc. etc., and then my dumbass isn't going to be able to make it. I'm so pissed....... --Landon |
oh No!! I was looking forward to the drive with ya!
Well good luck with work ( as it pays for the car ;) ) |
uh oh, looks like the utah trip is falling apart... who is left just me and jercs?
and jiven, i still havent gotten the dents taken care of. since im planning on getting the autoexe kit and then repainting my car i figured id do it all at the same time and save myself some time and money. sorry to hear about your trouble. some asshole tried to steal my jeep 2 summers ago and royaly fscked up the inside of it. did you end up selling it? |

Now don't you two guys, JERCS and Project, back out on us!
;) Landon, that truly sucks. Anything you can do to get out of it? Quit your job, perhaps? I mean, a man's gotta have his priorities... :D |
LoL. Ya know, I considered it, but these guys are takin' care of me too well. Plus, I'd be rather thrilled to be given the opportunity to take the job(more interested in the salary, but the job works for now) of the person leaving. If I'm successful in this, I'll have a LOT more toys on my 8 next meeting to show you all. ;)
Nonetheless, it does truly suck, and I am extremely disappointed. I was really lookin' forward to this. :( Jercs, Project, & IGOZMZM will represent, though, I'm sure. :) --Landon Originally posted by Omicron Now don't you two guys, JERCS and Project, back out on us! ;) Landon, that truly sucks. Well, ok. I guess a shot at a VP shot takes priority over driving 8 hours to hang out with a bunch of rotorheads. :D
So is that the Utah contingent planning on attending? Jercs, Project, & IGOZMZM? |
Yeah I'm still coming. I just got my room taken care of tonight.
Jercs, ZMZM what time do you want to leave on friday? I have friday off so we can go whenever. I just want to give my car one last coat of Zaino in the morning before we leave though. Lets try to get the time and location were meeting up nailed down this week. I'd rather not leave it for the last minute. :)] Oh, Omi, check your email. I replied to your message about club dues. |
i would like to leave around noon now that landon isn't going. 8 hours of driving, leave at noon roll in around 8-9.
|
I just found out that my friend who is coming with me can't leave until 5 pm (shes the only one in the office that day and can't leave early). SOOOOoooooooooo if you want to leave before then I completely understand, I'll just have to meet up with you at the event :(
|
I think I will be leaving about noon because I don't really want drive all night and i'm planning on eating dinner with some of my family out there.
|
So if you guys do this, I assume someone will take lots of pics to get up on our website, right? :D
|
Way to get the activity crankin' in the mountain forum, Omicron.... :)
But what are you talkin' about? Maybe I just missed some of the posts..... --Landon Originally posted by Omicron So if you guys do this, I assume someone will take lots of pics to get up on our website, right? :D |
I thought they were talking about a mini-meet...
|
We are talking about a mini meet, but not in this thread ;) This is the last of what was said before the Official meet in Denver. So YES I did take lots of pictures there :D
The Mini meet thread is on rockymountainrx8.com club website http://www.rockymountainrx8.com/modu...viewtopic&t=70 |
Yeah, I realized that after I posted the above, but forgot to go back and update my post till just now... and you've saved me the effort. Thanks!
So, you gonna post up the Utah mini-meet pics, or did I miss that too? :D |

It's been discussed in the Tech forum, so you might try searching there for more info. But in brief, the stock RX-8 battery is not a particularly good unit - it barely seems to have enough power to start the car sometimes! A lot of people have replaced them with better units like the Optima batteries. But before you do this, you might want to consider hooking up an ampmeter between the negative terminal of the battery and the negative cable and checking for current flow with the ignition off. It shouldn't be more than (as I recall) 15 mA - but again, this info can be found in the tech section. If you don't find it with a search, try just scanning the thread titles. Hope this helps! So.... has anyone talked to you yet about the Rocky Mountain RX-8 Club? Check the URL in my sig block for our website... :D |
Hey everyone, I just bought a Red/Black and Red '04 RX-8 6-speed from D. Dahle Mazda today. I won't pick it up until Wednesday, but I will post pics when i get it. Let me know when you guys meet up.
|
Congrats on your purchase, S2K1!
We meet monthly. The Utah RX8 contingent organizes their meetings through the Rocky Mountain Rx8 club. We just met last night, actually. RMRX8 Hope to see ya at the next meet! --Landon |
RMR and you can hit up the local rotary club at
www.slcrotary.com We just met tonight too, rx8 club was last night. Hit the slc site then go to meets, we'll be meeting up I believe Oct 23rd at Modern Garage. |
Hey Landon, your car was at the Autorama show this year wasn't it? If so, it was looking good. I had my blue S2000 there, it was next to the red Supra in the Modern Garage booth.
|
Yeah, it was. So, did we convert you from the S2k, or are you collecting sports cars? =)
Sorry I didn't make it last night, JERCS, I really was planning to....got caught up installing the side skirts, though. That's cool, S2k....you entering any vehicles in next year? It's a pretty fun atmosphere, hopefully I'll have some better numbers to brag about if I enter next year, this years' dyno charts that were on display for my 8 were kinda embarassing, considering the company. :o But I keep her real clean. :) Oh well. Good to have ya!! --Landon |
I did not give up the S2000. I've put about $30,000 into it, so I'm not getting rid of it anytime soon. My dyno charts sucked too, but the day after the show ended, I got my turbo kit installed. The RX-8 will remain tame, mod-wise...for awhile. :D

Did yours have the rear rotary accent? I think I saw it, she's a beauty. --Landon |
New RX-8 Owner in Utah
Just wanted to introduce myself and join the group. I just bought a new 2004 RX-8 earlier this week. Sunlight silver metallic 6-speed with Grand Touring Pkg, Appearane Pkg, and Rear Wing Spoiler. I bought it at Bountiful Mazda at a reasonable price over invoice with a current $1500 rebate which actually took the car under invoice. I doubt they will do this on the 05's but they had exactly what I wanted in an 04 with only 35 miles so I was very happy. As near as I can tell, the only difference for the 05's is the key. The 05's have a pop out key.

Snow Tires
After reading on some of the general sites and looking at the history on this thread, it's obvious that I need to invest in some snow tires (and possibly wheels). I'm interested in hearing what others have done. Bountiful Mazda is telling me that the Goodyear UltraGrip is a very good tire for the money and should perform as well as the Blizzex (SP?) tires. What have others done in this area?
|
tharkness, Let me be the first to say welcome. I drive my RX-8 year round and I use 17" Blizzaks during the winter, and have had absolutely no problems in snow or rain. If I was in your shoes I would have gotten the 04 just like you did, and do what I'm doing and get the 05 key as an extra. :D
If your interested, drop on over to www.rockymountainrx8.com that is our more localized club, with it's own Utah chapter. In fact we are putting together a meeting for Dec. 4th, and your welcome to come and see what everyone has done with their cars. (that is if they haven't stored them for the winter). We also meet with the local SLCRotary club (mainly rx7's). PM me if your interested and I can email you the details as they develop. |
IGOZMZM, nice to meet you. Thanks for the info. Where did you get your wheels from? Did you get the pressure guages to go in them or just go without. Mazda was quoting me $114 per gauge. Also, thanks for the site. I'll look into it.
|
Well lets see...... My 17" w/ Blizzaks I got from TireRack.com and at that time they didn't offer the pressure sensors. I hear if you call them and order the tires/rims they can see if they are avalible and give you prices. And my 18" Dark chrome rims I got from Freeway Mazda ;)
You get used to the sensor light lit during the winter, just have to remember to check the tires like you did (or were suppose to) before you had the TPMS. |
IGOZMZM, what did you do with your stock wheels? So, you went with 17" for better traction in the winter? Not sure if I want to spend $400 just for a little sensor light to go off if there really isn't anything that effects the warranty. I'm going to start looking seriously this week becuase this is my only day-to-day car and I don't want to get stuck. Last winter we got hit early and hard. I'll check out tirerack as well. Thanks for the tip.
|
I still have my stock wheels some where around here. I didn't go with the 17" for traction, I did it mainly because of cost and the fact that 18" were not that readily available at this time last year. And it is also easier to just change tires and wheels when the time comes, rather than take the rims to some place and chance the rims being damaged everytime they get changed. Nothing affects any part of the warranty, just a warning light that was required to be put in.
Yes you will get stuck if you don't get snow tires for your 8, I know from experiance. I'd hit either Tirerack or Discount tire. I've purchased from both, and been please with both. They have comparable prices for the most part, just make sure you check both so you don't get screwed on price. |
Did you get the Blizzak WS-50's or the LM-22's? I have read that some will simply not be happy with the WS-50's because they aren't a performance tire and there is a very noticable difference between them and the LM-22's. From everything I have read, 215/55/17's seem like the way to go if you use the minus theory. I'm going to order from tire rack this week. Just looking for some last minute input if there is any.
|
I got WS-50 215/55/17's. I figured how much performance am I wanting in the winter? I want traction over and above anything. Now if we lived in a place that got very little snow and more rain than snow, then I would have considered the LM-22's, but that is not the case here in Utah. I have taken them up Ogden Canyon to a resturant (unpaved parking) during a snow storm, and they handled like champions.
|
I love Utah. I've skied at Park City, Solitude, Snowbird, and now Alta (pics here). Little Cottonwood Canyon is one of my favorite places on Earth. I envy y'all for looking at those mountains daily. Don't take them for granted, that's a little slice of heaven. :)
|
tharkness, here is the most current info on our local meeting of RX owners/lovers:
http://www.slcrotary.com/forum/viewt...t=944&start=30 tharkness and anyone else from Utah that would like to join us, please just send me a PM so I can add you to the head count. edit: Damn snow has made me put on my snow tires before I really wanted too  oh well it was bound to happen sooner or later |
Hi guys, I've had my Titanium RX-8 for about a month and a half, and I've been on the board for about the same. I don't know if I've seen any of you on the road or not, I don't really see 8's too often. I'm in south Salt Lake valley. You can see some of my pics from Suncrest (top of the mountain between Utah Valley and SL Valley) in my post in the gallery... https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-multimedia-photo-gallery-6/rx-8-photography-contest-49003/ ... and a few more ... https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-multimedia-photo-gallery-6/welcoming-myself-board-pics-47661/
Anyway, hello to you all. BTW, if you see me on the road, I'm stock, with the exception of fog lights which come on with only the parking lights (weird... ) ;) |
Nick - Let me say welcome. I have a silver RX-8 stock. Bought in Bountiful in mid November. I travel to SLC every day as I work out by the International Center near the airport. Hope to see you on the road. How's your 8 handling in the snow?
