Yes, no blue or red lights, supposedly anything else is okay. Just depends on the cop I suppose. As for wattage I'm not sure if there is a law on that, just look at all the lifted ford's that blast your eyes at night. Was that you I saw around 1130ish on 7th E. and 106 S.

Cool, seeing as crying is the only thing I didn't do before my warranty got denied, I wish I could go back, I would have laid on the service department floor and wailed like a baby.

What about all the new bmw's and mercedes that have that blue tint to their lights? I don't know why I worry about being legal lol, especially with all those stupid lifted ford's on the road That could have been me on 7th and 106th but I didn't see you so its possible it was someone else because I always am looking for other 8's on the road

The blue tint is cause they are 6000 Kelvins or higher. On the Kelvin scale, which is a scientific measurement of heat. The lower temps i.e. 1000 K is almost red, 3000 K is yellow, 5000 K is almost pure white. 6000 K is where is starts to turn blue, at about 12000 K it starts to turn purple and around 20000 K they are a purple-ish pink. Technically the 8000 K and up is illegal, but rarely will it ever get enforced.

Here's an update - so Legacy Mazda said that the vibration is caused by carbon build up in the engine and that the engine needs to be replaced. Plus they said they'll have to charge for the aftermarket air intake modd because supposedly it caused carbon build up. As Bose suggested I tried the crying to wave the charges method (half hearted effort) which went south...lol. So finally the engine was replaced and they called me into pick up the car and asked me to pay for taking out the modd $400. I was prepared to pay the fee if the new engine had fixed the problem but alas! the problem is still there and seemed to be worse.

The lead service guy had no idea what the problem was after having the car for a full week. I told them I will not take the car back untill they fixed it properly and left the car with them and told the guy that I need to talk to the service manager (who already had left for the day) tomorrow to reverse the charges because clearly the new engine didn't fix the problem which proved carbon build in the engine was not the cause. After I left, the lead service guy calls me back and says that he'll inspect the car himself and there's no need to talk to the service manager. I said fine and gave him another chance.

So tomorrow comes - Service guy calls me back and says that he thinks he found the problem and it has something to do with the rotor in the front wheel, which has nothing to do with the engine or modd. I'm waiting to hear some good news from them and finally get the 8 back.

This whole thing cracks me up because even the dealership doesn't seem to know much about the car. You would think they would be a little more sure about the cause of the oroblem before they decide to replace an engine over a wheel rotor, apparently not.

The really funny part is that they are still adament about charging me for the modd removal. This time I will fight back. No crying just straight talk. But first got to wait and see if the new wheel rotor fixes it....

Even more interesting - as I was writing this post, service guy calls in and says Legacy Mazda is out of business..I repeat it is going out of business..wow. I feel so sorry for all who got laid off. As for customer in the Orem/Provo area, they'll have to goto SLC nw. Man this sucks

So the cry like a baby didn't work huh? Guess there is no hope.

I agree you should fight them especially when their 'fix' didn't do crap. Is the problem while driving or idle or both? A rotor wouldn't do anything to a non-moving vehicle. I'm assuming that both? They sound utterly clueless, Good move on not taking the car back though, whether or not they are going under is irrelevant cause Mazda is still in business so they still have to repair your car regardless.

Good luck Boo!

I saw your car in the shop. I blew my engine last Monday and is in Legacy right now, I should have it back today or tomorrow. That sucks that they are closing and we'll have to go all the way to SLC for service, UGH. I was dealing with John and everything has been pretty pleasant so far. Mine is the Silver '05 with the tint. I have heard dozens of different break-in methods for the new engine, what are you recommending?

I am by no means an expert is breaking in new engines. But I hear to break them in as you intend to use it. If you drive fast and like to rev a lot break it in like that. And change your oil at 500 miles again at 1500mi. and finally at 3000 mi. and every 3000 after that. Manufacturers recommend the pussyfoot break in for warranty/longevity purposes. So choose your method of break in according to your driving habit. But don't take my word as bond. Do some more research.

Wow, two people just got new engine's! bad luck but at least you have a fresh start on the engine I agree with bose on the break in of the new engine except the part about high rev's... If you drive like me then you should drive at higher rev's but with a new engine you probably shouldn't take it to the limit (redline 9000) until you break it in, I am no expert on break in's either but I say don't take it past 7000rpm until you are out of the "new" period.. just my suggestion . . . . .

Got it back and didn't pay ****....wooo hooo. Yeah whatever they fixed in the wheel did stop the vibration in the cockpit. The car feels and runs much better. As for the break in method, I'm not going with pussyfoot method of the manufacture....lol, specially since it's winter. Thanks for ur advise Bose

RX8Snowboard - In my case I didn't need a new engine but those idiots couldn't figure out the problem so they started replacing things, the first happened to be the engine..lol. I'm not complaining at all though.

Diggathadj - did they fix urs yet? or is it still in process? Btw how did you blow the engine? how many miles were in it?

Man provo/Orem is getting infested with 8s now. For the past couple of day I've seen about 10 or so

I retract my statement about redlining the brand new one. Rx8snowboard is right, I would keep it under 7000 rpm until after the 1st oil change at least. Lets any debris scrape off and fall back to the sump so you can drain it out.

Man, that rocks. John told me your was getting replaced. It sure looked like it, they had your car torn apart last week! I am glad to hear you got out at no cost.

No should be getting it back today, thankfully, I am itching to have it back. Well I had my oil changed about 1500 miles before the engine mishap and there was no oil in the engine so I am guessing a blown apex seal. I have 52K on mine.

Get some snow tires. They are a must, I had some all seasons on last winter and got stuck a handful of times. The snow tires make a world of difference from what I've read. or you could just get a set of chains.

Thanks diggathadj. I dnt remember seing urs in the garage though. it must have been on the other side

This is gonna be my first winter in the 8 as well and I'm not looking forward to it at all. Does anyone knw how much the chains cost? if they re cheaper than snow tires I might as well go with them. Either way I'm gonna drive like a snail through the winter for all I knw

Yeah, mine was outside awaiting my engine from Mazda. I got my 8 back today, no going over 7K RPM's for 600 miles They left my 8 outside for 3 days, I gave them my car when it was clean, I received it filthy as hell, my only complaint so far. The car is driving nicely, 60 miles on the new wankel!

Snow tires are a must people! Your stock tires will get you as far as a mustang here in utah during the winter and chains can only be put on during bad conditions (plus you can only go like 30mph with them on ) I slid all over with the first sight of snow last season but once I got my snow tires on I was doing better than most suv's on the road . Problem is the tire place I went to said only one snow tire fit my stock rims and it cost me 1200 dollars for a set of four . But in reality we all know that the rx8 has low torque at low rpm's so as long as you shift early then you should be fine. damn snow forcast why can't it just snow in the mountains .

Hey who lives on 4500 S? I saw a Grey one parked in a driveway around 1300 E or so... I just bought a condo right by there so we'll be neighbors in a couple weeks...

Sorry to hear about all the car problems guys...bummer. But yeah for free brand new engines at least!

Did you go ridin yet bose? I get my snow tires tomorrow and drove up to a friends house in the avenues last night...wow. I slid through every stop sign, the hill wasn't even that steep but I was fishtailing all over the place on my way up! Good thing I know how to drive!

Man I am so glad I got snow tires last night.

No Eng, I haven't had the chance yet and I'm waiting for the snow to get a bit deeper. I like it fluffy.

That sucks ***** dude..I am so sorry to hear that.

Thought that I could get away without snow tires (how hard could it be if the streets are pllowed)...BIG MISTAKE...lol. On my way to work got stuck and had to tow to Big'O Tires. They're putting tires on today $1000 before taxes. No one had tires on stock so they have to ship from SLC. Hopefully this will save me frm getting stuck again
