Kings Mazda put a new motor in it back in November and the last owner put a exotic speed cat back on it and i just put a rx7 store mid pipe on it yesterday. I live in Lebanon and work on Fields ertl but im always runnin thru cincy. Learned alot from this site already, but is there any drift events going on around cincy? Id love to learn how.

Brad: I know Gary Kessler because he's always at fuel. I know a wedding photog from the area, but he and his wife just moved to Texas. I also know a couple from NE Ohio as well. Oh and Steve of course.

Truva, If you take out the bottom bolts on the bumper and all of the plastic screws for the bumper in the wheel wells, you should be able to pull it out enough to reach in. You'll have to unplug them, and I believe they just twist our like any other bulb. I've never changed mine, just un hooked them. If all else fails, your only 2 corner lens bolts, and 4 top side bumper bolts away from just pulling the bumper off, which makes it very easy to get to.

Spidery: Welcome
An 8 is driftable but not all that easy for beginners due to its low torque and good grip. It's not my thing, but I believe Kilkare Raceway in Xenia still has open drift nights.

In other news, I finally did the first mow of the season. Did the whole damn thing and around the pond with the 6.75 hp self propelled mower my aunt left in about an hour and a half. I'm beat.

I'll be at fuel on saturday as usual.

Kevin,
Time to mod the lawn mower. I'm thinking a new exhaust, CAI, coilovers, and maybe nitrous.

The cheaper method is to get 5 gallons of Round Up.

Brad, I'm not a photographer. Just a wantabee. I have the gear and I don't know WTF I'm doing half the time. The beauty of digital is you can chimp your shots for free.

I put another mod on the car tonight. Bought some black tire valve caps. I think I gained a couple HP with that one.

it's quick enough and already has adjustable ride height.

Similar to Steve I'm just a idiot with a camera. I don't have much equipment, but I make up for it and my lack of talent with mad photoshop skills.

I have to ask if by MM you mean machinist's mate or Merchant Marine. If the latter where/who did you work for?

Instigator. What, are you too cheap for rotor shaped caps or were those just on clearance at Auto Zone?

You can never have too much power.

I'll also add my welcome to spidery.

Wendy, that's a '84-85 RX-7 right? It's in very nice shape, has any body repair been done to it? I want to find a good place to take care of the rust on mine (good, as in they can do sheet metal replacement).

Cheap and I discovered that I was missing two caps on the right side from when the wheels went on. I actually bought them from O'Reaily ($2.99 for 4 pack) and picked up some paste wax while I was at it.

Merchant Marine. I worked for Montco Offshore as a lift boat engineer until I realized that no matter what they paid me, no amount of money is worth being confined to that level of dirty for 3 weeks a month. Montco is out of Southern Louisiana and work primarily in the Gulf.

Yeah, working in the oil patch is no fun. I did 6 weeks with Cheramie Brothers as an oiler back when I was cadet shipping (at that time the only way to get any diesel experience in the US). There were two crews doing week on/week off, one of which was mainly Cajun. Interesting folks. I have some stories to tell about that...

So I just found out a vendor is using a picture of my Miata to help them advertise the wheels I have on it. No one asked my permission, I didn't even buy the wheels from them. I have sent them a message asking what is going on. My lawyer friend advised me to charge them $500 for the picture (it was one I took in front of our house). This is a reason why I rarely post anything online.

Looking at the bright side, I now have solid proof for my wife that the wheels look good on the car. Why else would they be using the picture?

Have your lawyer friend draft a quick letter demanding the money. The tricky thing is where you post. I always use Zenfolio and it abides by your terms of use and it makes it hard to get at. Now if someone wants to use my pics, great, but have to pay me for each venue they want to use it for. I only had one instance were someone used one of my pics without permission. I demanded they take it down, which they did.

I guess I have to go on a search for your Miata online since I curious who used it. PM me if you like. I may be able to extract the exif info from the pic and follow where they got it from.

Anyway, I'll be at Fuel around 10. I have to run over to the Best, er, Westside to look at windows tomorrow around 9.

So here's the response I got back:

Hi Michael

We are at the Mazdas at Laguna Seca event until next week but will delete
photos of your car when I get back....got plenty of folks who would love us
to show their Miata.

Brian Goodwin
Good-Win Racing
www.good-win-racing.com

Seems more than a little condescending to me. I will think long and hard before buying from them if that's their attitude.

It's funny, I've posted about this on a couple of other forums (mainly Miata based). Just added it to an existing off-topic thread so as not to make a big deal out of it. Had a couple of people tell me I was making it a big deal. I think it may come down to a generational thing, I was raised to ask if you want to use something of someone else's. The younger generation (damn kids!), having grown up with the Internet sees nothing wrong with using what they find. I realize that not everyone falls into these categories, I just find the responses interesting.

People don't get it. Hey, if Bad-Win uses your photo for commercial purposes without your permission, they're in the wrong. The attitude they copped kills me. At the least, they should have apologized and sent you a tee-shirt or something.

I guess I should start putting a BFW (Big F'ing Watermark on my pics right across the middle of the shot and let them PChop it out.

I wrote back and thanked them. I also suggested that those people so eager to have their pictures on the site would appreciate their asking permission and getting credit. The response I received was telling me I made assumptions, that many people sent them pictures to use and didn't want credit. Ok fine, then he said that someone sent them my picture and asked for the parts to make his car look like mine. That's fair enough, but he admitted that they didn't know where the picture came from and said it wasn't their intent to not give credit. Sure, but you didn't try to find out anything before using it, did you? I'm done with it.

I am thinking of going through all the forums I have posted pictures on and deleting them. Have to look into getting some good way of watermarking pictures if I want to post any more.

just put a translucent ***** on it as a watermark. Pretty much guaranties that no one will post it.

not very adult, but funny.

I don't have anything that most people would want to post, but anything i think they will, i make low res so it's mostly useless. With my illustration stuff, I've been watermarking the final art, but put all of the in progress stuff in private galleries and keep it relatively low res.

Using what you find is one thing - using someone else's property as an advertisement to make money is another.

I have no problem ripping off a copy of PS CS5 to mess around with on my own time. I don't agree with ripping it off to make money off the digital creations I create.

Still condescending. Someone approaching them to display their miata is understandable. Illegally ripping off a picture to use it to sell tires isn't equitable. Shady business practices, and they have no right to be condescending about it.

I like the ***** idea but then your car ends up on a gay website.

Since getting involved in anti-counterfeiting for a living, I'm a bit more sensitive to owner's rights. Granted Chief wasn't selling his images of his car, but still, it's his images. If Mike decides a website can use his images with his permission, then that's OK.

I know some motorsport photographers who get ripped off all the time. Usually a letter to the company gets them either to take it down or pay for each venue (web, print, TV) and pay for it. The problem is putting a copyright notice on the image or EXIF info doesn't protect you. You still have to register the copyright with the copyright office and pay a fee. Not practical, but it pretty much assures you that you have an iron-clad case if someone uses it without permission.

As for Good-Win, they're a bunch of douches. I won't buy anything from them if they give **** responses like what they did to Mike.

By the way, we need more RX-8s or any Mazdas at Fuel next weekend. There were more S2000s there than Mazdas. Kevin and I were the only ones there with rotary power. Boooooo!

If the weather is good, maybe we can meet there and then go somewhere for lunch afterwards. So cut your grass on Friday night and make it to Fuel next weekend! Maybe I can get my brother to show up in his radical Volvo C70.
