Before we get too carried away on pre-order dates -- nobody could pre-order until the first week in Jan. -- my dealer was entering his own initial orders in the system as I sat in his office when it opened at 8:00 a.m. (I had pre-ordered online at 5 a.m. that morning). I had indicated months before that I wanted to order and he put me on a "list" but there were no pre-orders til Jan 8th (without looking at the old email - I think that was the offical date).

Hope everybody in IA and Ne has their snow tires on :D

I think what Chuck is talking about is putting down a deposit at our Des Moines dealer. I did the same thing. I've got my snows on the stock rims, and the new chrome ones just came in. I saw them yesterday and I need to take my OE tires over for mounting. So far, no problems at all in the snow. My car has to be my year-round transportation, although I'm hoping to steal my wife's Sequoia if we get some really deep stuff.

Chuck, are you still driving yours or were you able to but it away for the winter? I do like that yellow! I remember when yours arrived, because I had been cruising by Ramsey Auto daily to see if any had been dropped off. I nearly drove off the road. Mine and a couple of others appeared on a later weekend when the dealer didn't even know they were coming.

I am in West Des Moines, also. See you, I hope!

My 8 has been going very well in the snow! My wife also has a Sequoia! It does come in handy when there is some serious white stuff on the ground!

Omaha here

So is there any kind of RX-8 club here in Omaha? I have yet to see one on the road (besides mine) since I bought mine in Nov. I would like to make mods and things, are there any good performance stores around here to help out.

Hope to meet some other RX-8ers in or near Omaha.

Sooner,

There are a few of us Omaha folk on the board. Actually a guy in my office building just bought a blue one this week and Omahawk on this board should be getting his blue one within the month. Other than that Kain and I have titanium 8's. I saw a red one last week in miracle hills with the plate TODD4NU.

What part of town do you live in? I am out at 162nd and Blondo.

I would like to get a local club mixer or drive set-up once the weather turns a little warmer and I put my summer tires back on. I am not familar with any local performance shops -- have done everything myself so far.

Awesome I'd love to meet some locals, I live in bellevue 36th and 370 area.

I have a Red 8 with the GT package and the 2 tone interior, I have Oklahoma plates (military). I really like it a lot. Trying to decide what I can do inexpensively to get more horses out of her. Might have to go see HP motor sports about it.

Hope to hear from you all soon.

First thing you should do is get CanZoomer's fuel controller mod. ($750) This is good for about 25 hp and greatly increased power above 5k rpms. I should have mine soon -- will let everyone know when it arrives if you want to check it out. I am not sure I would recommend a local performance shop -- you can most likely get better stuff on the internet (www.vividracing.com , www.rotaryextreme.com) and most everything is easy to install yourself.

If you want to add a little zip and a lot of roar :D I highly recommend the Borla exhaust ($600) -- money very very well spent.

hey there RXHusker!!! and greetings to RX-8Sooner! For some reason since yesterday I am still showing up as cardinal,anyway....- all I have heard (from a kid who works in a lawyer's office here in my building) is that HP Motorsports wanted to see one, maybe sponsor one>? that is just what I have heard from this other source. I HOWEVER agree with you as far as buying products from those sites-prices are a lot more competitive.! Hey RXHusker, do you have any sort of new air intake as well?, K & N or chuck's?

No intake yet. The jury is still out -- have been leaning more toward Rotary Extreme but am waiting for Omicron's dynos and for some warm Spring weather. Next up for me is CanZoomer's Stage 1, also strongly looking at HKS, Tein or JIC adjustable coilovers -- I think the 8 sits about an inch too high and could stiffen it up a little when desired :D .

yeah I am not one to lower just for looks-HOWEVER, I have 3 sandbags in the trunk (I do still drive her a little in the winter) and they have really lowered the back of the car-me noticing how great the back of the car looks now has made me decide to somewhat lower it as well- I was given a K and N for christmas from my wife- but haven't decided if I am gonna put it on or not. Wanted to see what their cover looks like first if it ever come out

Kain -- you have to find a way to get your identity back

You must have more patience that I do -- if I had gotten a K&N for Christmas it wouldn't still be sitting in a box (I probably wouldn't have enjoyed the cruise we took between Christmas and New Year's just thinking about it sitting there in a box). Let me know if you put it on -- I would love to hear it.

Now does this make it sound like a crotch rocket, or give it a little base, I am a hold over from the muscle cars (68 mustang was first car), so I have a hard time with cars being that whinny and high pitched.

Thanks for the advice I may have to give HP motorsports a call.

Thanks

Sooner

The Borla is a deeper, louder sound compared to stock -- definitely more mustang than Honda rice rocket :D There a some sound clips posted if you do a search.

I live in Lincoln, NE and am new to the rotary scene ( previous Camaro Z28 owner), I need tips on how to make power with the rotary. In Dec. I bought an 04 RX-8, Velocity Red, Grand Touring Package, BOSE. I bought from Woodhouse in Omaha and was very pleased, besides they are the only MazdaSpeed dealer in NE!

Any tips on what works? I know the MazdaSpeed parts are high, but are the good? Or should I just look to the after market. I want exhaust, intake, computer mods and more.

Also how does this car look lowered? Any tips?

Please help, I'm 24 years old, and have a nice tax return burning a hole in my pocket!!!!

Any help would be great, thanks guys!!!

huskerz79,

You have a lot of reading to do :D

Seriously -- check out the vendors forum -- especially Canzoomer's Place. Your first mod should be CZ's Stage 1 25+ hp(or wait for Stage 2 if you want more serious power 45+ hp). I will be upgrading my Stage 1 to a Stage 2 probably in June -- should be out and available by then.

I recommend the Borla exhaust -- or the B&B -- check out Vividracing.com.

I am going to lower mine when it warms up -- looking at the JIC or HKS coilovers -- or Yaw Power's Stage 1 street suspension.

The jury is still out on intakes -- I am personally probably going to wait to see what develops over the next 3 or 4 months. There are a few good units out there now (if you like sound rather than power gains) like Rotary Extreme and K&N. I was going to go with the RE and probably will if someone doesn't come out with an intake that is better designed than the stock unit. The ones out now are very very loud with minimal hp gains.

Borla is currently working on a header for the 8 -- also keeping my eyes open on that.

Welcome to the board! I drove my 8 down to Lincoln for all the home games last year and nearly caused accidents from all the gawkers on every trip :D

hey there- well, after reading of some problems with the K and N I am still not installing it- will wait a little longer. Hey RXHusker- has conzoomer hooked you up yet>? and what do you think of the Greddy system - straight pipe and exhaust>? I am counting down the days till spring- I just drove my car yesterday for the first time in over 3 weeks!!!! I was on I-80 and ran into some first-gen 7's- they were all pretty fun to ride with for awhile- those things are still quite quick!

Kain -- is that you? Or are you officially cardinal35 now?

I am waiting on intake also -- would go with Rotary Extreme now if I had to -- little worried about the K&N.

I've got the MazdaSpeed body kit coming :D

Will probably pick-up the HKS Hipermax II coilovers and end of April when I put my summer tires back on. I must say the 8 with snows goes great -- and as you know we have gotten much more snow that usual around here!

Waiting for Stage 2 and midpipe/high flow cat. Hoping those will be in by end of April also -- going to be a fun Spring/Summer.

We need to organize a local NE/IA RX-8 get together -- will probably see many more on the road when it warms up -- hence my reason for getting the MazdaSpeed body kit -- don't want to look like everyone else -- especially that other titanium 8 driving around West O.

Try going into IE and deleting your cookies and then log back in -- this "should" reset you.

I got the MS kit from Trussville -- everything but the rear bumper -- didn't think it added much. I wasn't going to do it now (planned on performance mods only this year and then appearance next year) but Trussville had an MS wing with a scratch on it that they sold me for only $430 so I went ahead and picked up the rest since they waived the shipping charges. I will install it myself -- my office has a detail shop in the parking garage (great place -- they do all of ***** T.'s cars and all the new Porsches sold at Olsen) and the guys there also do mods, etc. -- they offered to help just for the fun of it -- also going to fix the scratch on the wing for me.

Another guy in my garage got an 8 with the stock wing -- so I figured I had better get the MS kit so I didn't lose my car in the crowd

No will install Stage 1 next week and then upgrade to Stage 2 -- CZ said it is only a software upgrade now that he has redesigned the unit.

Called yesterday to schedule the recall service -- they are checking on parts arrival and then supposed to call me back to set the time.

I delete my cookies every tuesday - has not helped yet anyhow- i saw that wing and was thinking of getting it too- looks like I missed out I will call olsen too about scheduling- they need to also fix my ashtray. so what are you gonna do with the stock wing>? hint hint. next week stage 1>? man you must be excited! We had a major icedam and had a ceiling collapse- quite a winter with all the snow- reminds me of back home- but we don't have gutters there! OH so does your machine fall under both recalls>? am looking forward to doing a little driving at lunch with the nice weather- since I don't drive her much this winter- I am holding off on any mods till spring- especially after sitting on this K&N intake. I am jealous of your 8!

I don't have the stock wing -- thought it looked too Eclipse-ish

I would create a new ID called Kain2 (or Kain8, etc.) and use it -- wonder what is going on with the "real" Cardinal35?

Yes both recalls -- also having them do the TSB issue on the hot center console/cup holders -- wasn't a big problem last summer but it did get warm when the car was going with stop and go traffic alot. Also asked about a new battery -- Mazda has released a new battery for the 8 -- I always park inside but the few times I have had it out in the cold it has really cranked to get started -- thought the new battery may be a fix for that.

We will have to plan a drive -- also planning a Zaino session once the weather gets real nice.

Sorry to hear about your ceiling -- a few of my neighbors have also been having problems. Fortunately we have great ventilation in our attic and haven't had any issues.
