Hey all. I've been out of town the last week or so and thought I'd check in. I'm the guy with the antique RX7 that sorta invited himself to your forum. I met Brent (Hskr8) out at the Wed. night event at 84th and Center a couple of weeks back and was thinking I might be able to go again this coming Wed. 8-4. From the previous posts, sounds like many here are like me, with work and family obligations. But heres hoping that some of you might also be able to make it.
BTW RXhusker, congratulations on your anniversary. My 16th was July 8th.

I stuck around until 7. Actually, saw a red FD pull in as I was heading out. I can only guess it was Signal 2 since the FDs seem a rarity there...looked super nice.

Only other mazda I saw was a beat-up old-gen protege trying to sell a spoiler that looked like it was made out of cardboard for $25. I think they gave you a free epoxy installation on the spot if you wanted it.

A number of cool cars, though I'm a little out of my league with all the aging displacement going on there. "Edelbrock block, eh? ...Did you order that from Jegs? ...yeah, can you tell I watch Horsepower TV yet? I'm out of questions."

Apparently I heard it gets even busier later on, but I had to go eat and get ready to play.

Talked to a guy (didn't even get his name - sometimes I can be a real social jackass) that knew of Jeff's ride from keeping an eye out on the site here...had an 82 '7 that's waiting to go under the knife before it gets back in action. Hopefully he stuck around to witness the rotary goodness.

Just noticed I got the 666th post in the thread. I think I should take the rest of the day off accordingly. (Actually I'm just REALLY tired. I don't think my boss would go for either reason though).

My son's football practice started last night so I wasn't able to attend.

One of the RX-8's that was in my office building has been traded in on a new GTO. Glad the other Ti 8 is gone! The blue GTO is a real YAWN on looks (inside and out) for some reason I actually thought it was a Volvo C70 Coupe when I first saw it -- sure hope the 5.7L provides some thrills because we all know the handling won't.

I lost a tree in the storm the other night -- hope nobody else had much damage.

I met the guy who has the 7, sans engine as well, he said he is a lurker on this thread. nice guy, may not be the biggest fan of the 8 though, but as long as he is a fan of the rotary

I have been without my 8 for a week now as I had to get a dumpster and it is blocking my car in- I ended up being glad I did that cause of the hail with the tuesday storm!

I stopped by and hoped to meet some other Rotor-heads but I must have been too late. I've been lurking this thread for about a week now but wasn't sure if I'd make it out.

I hung out by signal2's FD from about 8-8:30 but he never stopped by. Very clean R1 I might add. (I have a 93 Red touring)

Maybe in the future...

I was also looking forward to meeting others here but it was pretty short notice and in the middle of the week. Great night though, good turnout and something for everyone's taste.

Kain (Jeremy), it was good talking w/you and to put a face with the "forum" name.

redxseven, Sorry I missed you. We went into that Mexican restaurant to get something to eat. PM me if you have some free time. I'd love to hook up and see your car. Didn't know there was another VR in the area. I'm on vacation the rest of this week so I'm pretty flexible unless the wife finds something for me to do.

And thanks to both of you for the compliments... particularly meaningful since your both experienced with FDs. Mine is pretty stock...not much 'bling'... I was afraid it'd be kinda boring to most. :o

glad to know things are looking up for you- maybe you can make the big bucks and move out toward east Lincoln!

I must have just missed the new lurker as well I don't get to talk to many rotary heads there that often- more gear heads usually

Brent since you seem to be the MM guy, could you maybe make a thread that says the exact date and time- it sure would be nice to get together

Reminder: The NRSCCA has a Solo II autox event down at the MAC (Council Bluffs) this up and coming Sunday, August 15th.

I don't know if I'll be attending/running yet, but I wanted to put the word out. I think the 8 would be a blast to take out to an autox.

www.nrscca.com for more information.

I think that's when they're always scheduled :/ Not the easiest for me either, tends to conflict with my church sermon (ok, so I really mean hockey league game).

The website should be able to provide answers to your inquiries, but I'll give it a shot too.

You need a helmet, but they'll provide you with one if you don't have one.

When I went and watched, there were two main groups of cars: domestic V8s, and Miatas. Other than that, I think there may have been a protege or two as far as Mazdas go. I was a little surprised by the number of Firebirds/Camaros/Mustangs when I went - I was kind of expecting it to be a more lightweight crowd of vehicles. There were, of course, a smattering of compacts like Civics, Integras, and assorments of scoobies. There were also a couple unique and/or older rides around...there was a nice FC that I remember, plus a 240Z, a go-kart, and some open single seaters.

All you need to participate is your car and generally I think $25-30. Your car has to pass inspection, but that's pretty straight-forward. I haven't stuck around to watch a full event but you can check the results on the website to see how many passes you can typically pull off. You do have to participate in working with the crew in between runs - generally something as simple as sitting on the track and picking up a cone if someone knocks it over, etc. They explain it all at the beginning of the day.

If you want more info, check out the webpage, and/or email Jan Gerber from the Officers page. He's the guy that first invited me out and would be happy to chat about it.

Hey all! Sorry I've been absent so long, work has been very busy as of late. I hope all is well with everybody.
Anybody getting hungry? I need another lunch meet. Good Italian food sounds nice if I can make a recommendation.

Hi all sorry it has been so long since I have posted. Like everyone else here it seems like work has been hectic. As soon as I got back from Vermont I was on a plane the next day to KC then to DC. Hopefully I will be home for a while soon. I know I will be for sure at the end of the month as I am moving to the other side of Lincoln and well I have to be out of my current apartment by the 31. But it will be well worth the move. Being on the north side of Lincoln I can be on I-80 and on my way to Omaha in about a minute as opposed to driving for 25 minutes across town just to get to the interstate. Everyone take it easy.

I'll see what I can put together info wise about the MWM meet and greet, and regardless, I think another get together among us RX-8 guys is in order as well.

Italian sounds wonderful.... definately not low carb, but hey, we gotta live a little right?

A few other things I should mention to catch everyone up:

I am probably pretty close to having to make a decision between two companies... with one, I go back to doing programming work, which I do like, but gets old after awhile. The other puts me right into management, but in time will lose the programming skills. I think the latter is better suited for me long term, but high end programmers make allot of money too, and not sure I want to deal with politics day in and day out... Not a dilemma, just glad I believe I have options at this point.

Also, the latest news... there is a Huper Optik guy in town now. He quoted me $300 for HO 40. Apparently he moved here from San Diego recently and have an appointment next week.

I also have a sheet of the new Suntek Carbon sitting in my back window to check Nav loss, which so far is minimal, but want to see how the HO does, so I'm going to try to get a sheet of that back there this week as well.

I couldn't believe his price, so I'm a little on the skeptical side, but spoke with him 3 times, and he sounds like he knows what he is doing.

Other than that, I've been working on the Toyota pickup, and am very happy with it, (seat belt mod, oil change, new muffler & tailpipe, a couple of missing dash parts etc) So should be a good winter vehicle when I won't drive the 8.

Anyway, enough of all that, I'll see if I can't find some time to get the specifics of the MWM greet posted up here... it's coming this weekend I believe... and afterwards, we should definately meet up as our own mini group and see everyone again. We can discuss the group stuff if we want, but we should meet socially again before football season starts... and with last night's NFL preseason opener, we are already behind the curve!!!
not to sway you either way (good to hear you are having some choices) but if you get out of the programming, your right you will lose the "feel" if you know what I mean. sure management is great and all, but once you take that step in this field you become the doer, not the thinker-just my humble opinion though

would not mind checking out your truck, see what you have been doing with yourself

SO IS ANYONE GOING TO THE CARSHOW TONIGHT IF THERE IS NO RAIN?
