Hey Im New And Live In Omaha

Hey guys, I read the first few pages of this thread but it got WAY to long to read it all. Im getting ready to get a 2004 and I was curious about what you guys can tell me about what dealer to get it from, and maybe some opinions on lease/buy i dont want to brake 500 a month, do you guys think I could do this. I keep getting different answers from everyone.

Also do you guys know about the NAV update? Im sure this belongs in the electronic section but i also know that it changes from dealer to dealer on who knows about it .

One last one, I think I already read that these beasts do pretty well in the winter but can I have an update on opinions, maybe a good tire to buy, need 2 or 4 of them and approx cost.

IF ANYONE ACTUALLY ANSWERS ALL THESE QUESTIONS I WOULD BE FLOORED WITH GRATEFULNESSS.

I can't answer all of your questions but I can try. first of all welcome!

you could lease for under 500 a month I am sure- but buying will certainly depend on your down payment and loan term.some here like stan olsen other's like woodhouse- just go where the treat you the best! the nav update I am not sure. RXHUSKER drove his all last winter with snow tires and traction control and he said it was great, you WILL need four tires and last time I checked you have to buy the rims as well so about 1200 dollars for the package- I don't really drive mine in the winter but I did get stuck in one inch of snow the first early snow last year and it sat for 3 days- with OEM tires you are gambling with your life in snow, they are like four hockey pucks, anyway good luck with it all and more power to you!

Ive also been sleeping with the car dealer....okay that last ones a lie. Where did you get yours Im talking to Joe at....its 102nd and dodge.ish I think thats Stan Olsen. they have 2 beautiful yellows that are sport packages with Nav. Somthing I noticed, I will do research later but if anyone can answer now it would be nice, Whats with all the rust on the inside of the wheels,,,,(rotors)

The rust is from the brake pads.

You will DEFINITELY need snow tires -- this is NOT an option. That warning out of the way -- the car handles great in the winter with good snow tires. I believe that there are some 18"'s snow out now -- last year there was only one option and they were like $300 each -- I got 17's with winter rims (17's are actually better in the snow anyway).

If you really want yellow -- you better get it soon -- they only made yellow for 2004.

I got mine at Olsen's -- they were good but have had some turnover in Mazda staff. Woodhouse seems to be pretty aggressive on pricing and has been having Olsen's lunch. Don't know if that means Olsen is desperate an willing to really deal now or if Woodhouse will always have them beat due to their aggressive sales approach. May also want to try the dealer in CB -- my sales guy from Olsen and their former sales manager went to that dealership.

well kinda of a personal taste question

What do you guys think of the Yellow as compared to the Black, I really like the black with red and black interior but yellow is just so yellow. Let me know what you guys think and the question is not whats a better color but a better color on the car, Ive been asking everyone but RX-8 owners and havent had one person yet say yellow. Just wondering. also Thanks for the woodhouse info because I bought my current car from there and unbeknownst to me I dident even remember that they (woodhouse) sells mazda. THANKS AGAIN.

Titanium is the best color hands down -- but it is also very popular (along with the red and silver). The best color on the car (IMHO) after Ti is the Nordic Green. Look at one next to the black and you will want the Nordic Green. It is somewhat like the Montengro Blue on the FD's -- looks black most of the time, dark metallic green in very bright light, and sometimes dark blue. Because the name of the color is Nordic Green it is the least ordered color. If Mazda marketing had been a little more creative they would have had a real winner with that color.

Since you asked -- I would run from the yellow unless your REALLY REALLY like it.

Here is my preference order -- and yes I have seen them all in person
Ti
Nordic Green
Winning Blue
Black
Red
Silver
Yellow

That said -- if you were getting a 2005 I would get White -- that color looks awesome on the JDM 8's I have seen pictures of.

Hey Hey Hey, Before you believe the Ti guy , the silver looks great in full sun all shined up! (but I may be a bit biased.) IMHO do what the rest of us did, drool over the ads for a while, visit the dealer in cognito or at night or both, and check on-line, then get the one you truely like best.
By the way, welcome to the forum WhickedAddicted and when you get your 8 enjoy, enjoy, and most definately enjoy. Oh and enjoy somemore.

definitely give me a call!!!!- I would definitely not mind at all seeing your car and what you have done to tear those synchros up (also just kinda want to sit in your car and see what they feel like shifting (not driving anywhere of course)) I have got quite a bit done as well since we last met- wouldn't mind you seeing mine either- if you can drive the 8- on the tenth of august we are (midwest mazdas) doing a drive in the loess hills- should be a lot of twisties and fun!!!!!!

WickedAddicted - I personally never liked yellow. I mean, I'd take a yellow Ferrari 355 or something, sure....but I don't like it in the 8. Black is, of course, an attractive color, but it's not so attractive when you can notice it's dirty 30 minutes after you get done washing/drying it. When I was in search of my first car a number of years back, it HAD to be black. After 2 years of that, never again (at least for a long time).

Of course...you know where *my* vote of color is (see sig)...but yes, Nordic Green, Sunlight Silver, Red, and Blue aren't slouches either.

What's up to the rest of the guys? Been a quick month or two. How are the 8s runnin? I visit sparingly and saw the Canzoomer poll in the lounge - I didn't know so many people were having trouble with the units :/ (But it's good to see J's hasn't acted up, apparently)

The 3 is still running well. I don't know if I'm going to be able to afford my 3M mask before winter - I need to look into how easy it is to dip into my money mkt account (since it's not really organized anyways, I was just throwing the contributions the firm was making each year in there and letting them sort it out). Going to Chicago for a weekend with the gf, and her b-day is coming up, so a few extra expenditures this month. Also had to pay my dues for my winter hockey league. I wanted to get the 3M mask, tint the 3, and get some player (aka not goalie) gear, but I hope I can just get the first one taken care of since rock-chip season is on its way. I am starting a new job soon though (corporate network consulting for a friend of mine's new company), with an accompanying pay raise, so that'll help.

Thanks for all the opinions, im still torn but im thinking black with black and red interior, just seems cool. Also I stopped in at WoodHouse and they were way over priced or the dealership on 102nd and dodge was way under. Im looking at a touring pack with nav at about 10000 miles going for $31,800 does that seem like a good deal or a great deal or avg. Im planing on getting it down to the high 20s. I was wondering what price you guys closed on and what you think it should be done for now all things considered.

Hey Hskr8, glad things are working out for you. I would hate to see you having sacrificed so much and then have to give up the 8. Hope things continue to look up for you.

Glad to see your back Hskr8!

I should be putting my winter rims/tires on in the next few weeks. I am also thinking of picking up a 4X4 pickup just for winter fun. Will probably still drive my 8 most of the time.

Still hoping that maybe I can install FI this winter but it is beginning to look like nothing will be ready.

Heck, with the snow tires you have for the 8, this pick-up will skate nicely in comparrison. :D

Nice looking truck though, and I notice four doors for the family. Very nice.

winter driving?

with the weather we have in sioux falls, what type of winter tires are the best for when i do have to drive my rx8? blizzaks? RX8 is in the shop getting work done right now, but will be back within a week, so hopefully i can get these winter tires mounted on my stock wheels and take off my 6 spoke gunmetal SSR wheels. Haven't been on in awhile, just thought i'd hop on and say hi, been working my butt off in college and was sick this last weekend. If we have any last cruises before winter, let me know, i'd love to get down to Omaha one last time before my car goes to winter mode, and in the garage. Got a Veilside Body kit and evo-r vented carbon fiber hood waiting for spring to be put on! it should be fun!

Putting my winter tires/rims on next week so I took my 8 out over lunch today and really let the original rubber have it :D I am going to replace the tires (maybe the rims also) next Spring. I just kept doing clutch drop after clutch drop -- drift after drift for about 30 minutes. DSC totally off of course. Most fun I have had since I got my 8!!! I went out to the back side of Lake Cunningham (after a drive through Ponca) and had total seclusion. The rear wheels would literally just spin for what seemed like 10 seconds. I paced off one set of street snakes and counted over 40 feet. I figured worse case scenario was I would trash the clutch and have to get the new MSpeed clutch and flywheel. Unfortunately the clutch is fine.
