Just to make it clear to everyone - you do NOT have to show up to meets in a rotary and/or mazda. Everyone is welcome, no matter what they are driving. When we have meets in the winter, there are quite a few people that come out without their cars. There will always be some of us brave enough to drive our rotaries in the winter, so come on out and enjoy the fun no matter what you are driving that day

All we ask is that people be respectful of each other, and that people don't drive or act crazy in our meet locations. We don't want to get a bad repuation with locations/law enforcement.

It looks like engine #4 for Al. I have been having problems with the car stalling at idle. I've been towed twice. I tried to fix it by replacing the plugs (they were bad) and one coil, without success. The dealer says one of the lobes on the #1 rotor is at 45 psi. All the rest is at 110-120 psi.
I'll keep you informed.

This one was 20K mile. 1st one was 13K. 2nd was maybe 10K.

You do know this wasn't due to carbon.

Wow, how many motors does it take to get a new car?

Dealership called, Mazda wants my oil change records. Dealership has done all my oil changes. Last one was 5 months & 5K miles ago. This still falls with in the Schedule 1 maintenance schedule.

I don't expect a new car. I expect this bitch to last more that 2 months before it requires a repair.

I wonder when mazda is going to 'upgrade' you to a Series 5 13B in hopes it will last longer.

Hello everyone!

Just bought a 2004. So I'm leaving the dealership (car has 40k), and the engine light comes on. I immediately return, they tell me that some water had gotten into a portion of the engine when they 'pressure washed' it. All it was was a misfire, and said it was no big deal. Sounded fishy, but I'm always skeptical about things. Anyway, have had it for two days and everything else is good, besides it idling rather hard at stoplights. Since I bought it at CarMax, I have five days to return it, so given the numerous posts on impending motor doom and problems associated I might just take it back and reconsider. Nevertheless, I love this car and want to keep it.

A couple of questions:

Is there a good mechanic around here (I'm in Arlington Heights) who I could take it to and get an independent inspection?

I understand Mazda recently upgraded all vehicles to the 8 year/ 100k engine warranty. Is this absolutely true, and if so do I just contact Mazda to get the warranty documentation? If I don't get that, I'm not getting the car since the warranty is donedy in October.

Thanks all!

Hard idling like the motor is stumbling or there is a vibration, esp through the shifter?

I guess a little bit of both. There's a definite slight vibration. But more so, it seems like after I've been running the car for about 15 minutes and I stop at a light, the whole car vibrates a little more. There will be a clicking noise every 10 or so seconds and then vibration will go from softer to more noticeable again. Its probably normal, but I'm a first time rotary user so I don't know a lot about it yet.

doesn't sound normal to me. what it does sound like is the potential motor mount issue. There is a TSB out about it and you should be able to get it taken care of at any Mazda dealership.

Hello khays7, in Arlington Hgts area you have Roto Mazda that could take a look. I bought a Subaru from Roto once.
I take my car to the quarter car wash and spray directly onto the engine. I have never got a CEL from that. The car may need plugs and/or a ignition coil(s) to take care of the missfire. Plugs can be purchased for $20 (from Advanced Auto) a piece and coils on-line for under $30. Price for the coils at local dealers will range from $37 to $90. It all depends on if they sell their parts at suggested list or not. If the car is still under 4 yrs old, then these could be taken care of under the 4/48 warrenty.
Yes, the warrenty has been extended and right now I'm hoping Mazda comes through on that.

Todays meet is at Portillo's in Downers Grove. East of the corner of Butterfield Rd. (Rt 56) & Findley Rd. About 1/4 east of I-355 and north of I-88 tollroads.
Information for meets is update on the first post in the Chicago Meets thread.

i really don't want to leave

used cargo organizer and all weather floor mats, BOTH OEM.

yours for $100!

well, that's if i end up trading in my rx-8 i can no longer be in denial that gas prices haven't impacted me. i have a daily 80-mile round-trip commute. long story short, that's over $500/month in gas the next car will be a toyota yaris if their numbers come out right (i thought is was odd that a toyota banner showed up on my user cp page ) downgrading to a yaris? i know, i know. but personally, i think it's time for me to get out of the sports car scene... for now. i had a revelation a couple of weeks ago and sadly this is the first thing i need to act on.

i fell in love with the rx-8 after our first hot corner, but her drinking habit is an addiction i can no longer feed.

let me know if you're interested in the organizer/floor mat combo. of course the driver's side mat is worn where the feet rest. i've only had them since last winter. (i also work with the designer of the mats!) there's also some scuffing in one of the organizer sections from the front license plate holder i kept in there, otherwise the organizer is in good condition. i'd rather sell locally...
