While your shifting into 2nd is a problem, you aren't suppose to shift into 1st while the car is rolling. There really isn't any need to. I believe there is a passage in the owners manual that states this.

Really? Sometimes when I'm coming to a stopsign I'll put the clutch in and put it in first without releasing the clutch, just so I don't have to shift when I want to move again. Bad?

ok so I got a call from the dealer today. They said there is no problem with the transmission. But I needed a new starter, battery front brake pads and a transmission flush. anf if I paid $125 dollars I can come pick my car up. I said for what??? He said to look it over. I immediately called Mazda corprate. Long story short they waived the $125.00 and told me to take it another dealer.

I called the other dealer and he asked me if I changed the trans oil. He said let me guess you used the real expensive synthetic suff. Yes I used Mobil 1. He said that is the problem. He told me to get semi synthetic 75-90w and that will fix it, or I can bring it in and he will do it. He said he has seen other cars have the same problem. I will change out the oil and keep you posted? is it possible that better is not better????

oh PS...Congrats Congrats to Red and Blue!

Some premium trans fluid contains one chemical that is really bad...but for the life of me I can't think of it at the moment.

Was at the dealer today for some engine noise concerns, I just stopped in to see if I was right hearing that noise being abnormal. Noise description: makes loud like growlling or rubble kind of noise. Engine runs fine but that noise does not sound right. I have had that noise for a while now, now it really has gotten louder. The service writer seemed nice and told me it could be a worn out alternator bearing or a pully or something like that??? So i schedualed an appointment for next week.

Also saw the new Rx-8, oh man, oh man, IMO that is one guly thing =( Thankfull for the first gen. =)

Well last nite I went to four different auto parts stores looking for semi-synthetic but just got alot of strange looks. I ended up getting Valvoline non synthetic. 75-90W changed that out and still have the noise. I guess my next move is to take it to the dealer pay to have them change the fluid and see if that fixes it. I think this should be under warranty since I do not track or abuse the car and I have 40,000 miles. I would think transmissions should atleast last 100,000 + I thought I would have to replace the clutch before the tranny?

My transmission recently got kinda messed up as well... I took it in and they found a few of the gears rather chewed up... no word as to why, but at least warranty is going to cover it.

Does anyone have any suggestion for a clutch or fluid? I only ask because they want more than 500 for the OE clutch, which seems a bit high.

I never had problems shifting to first while the car is in motion. I do that pretty much on a daily basis...and excessively at an autoX..

heal toe and properly rev-match is the key...

The rx8 tranny is sweet when it comes to that...you guys should have no problems....tranny is like butter.

FYI the OE clutch is the exedy stgI. I believe you can find that clutch a lot of places cheaper than $500.

I assumed it was some kinda overrev protection.. i thought for sure i could 'feel' something move out of the way right around 10mph .. maybe its all in my mind lol..

and yeah, its very smooth, much better then the notchy 4spd I learned on

I posted in another thread that the quality of the transmissions seems to vary between units. I drove a 8 at Zoom Zoom Live and the quality of that trans was a lot better than mine. Even with all those others that had been in the car previously.

The car is on the road. I still need to swap out the shocks and springs. Savedsol lent me a shock, back in July, and I need to get that back to him.

You two back from Vegas? I take it that your location is no longer in the basement.

Al, you know better than that. Now that they are married, he is officially "in the way". Which means he is only allowed out of the basement to go to work and to work on the honey-do list. At all other times he has to stay out of the way in the basement. Why do you think my wife let me get the basement finished and get a big-screen TV? It keeps me out of her way.

speaking of RSD's basement I know there are some shocks down there not being used. And because they are not mine I feel completely comfortable offering them up as long as is necessary.

Hey peeps!

I just wanted to let you all know that recently I traded in the car for a truck. Kinda had to for work reasons. Just wanted to let you guys know that I have had a great time with all of you in the meets and all. I will always be a supporter for EVOLV!!! And when I can I will hang with you. Maybe someday in the future I'll have the car back again. I'm missing it already. Take great care everyone!

Congrats to RED & BLUE!!!!

I have the same arrangement. But, I don't sleep down there (well there are times I do deep thinking with my eyes closed).

I already have replacement shocks. When something breaks, I replace it with upgraded (performance) parts.
