I'd do the same for the 7 folks of course.

We've got 200 members but only 89 active. Something's wrong with that. I don't get it.

People sign up for curiosity's sake. How about emailing the people that haven't logged in in the last 30 days to survey them to find out why they haven't returned. If nothing else it would be a nudge to login again.

I'm more interested in getting YOU guys over. It's the continual posts here. And no one here has any good reason, let alone ANY reason why. And I don't mean you personally as I know you post there too. There's no reason why this can't be happening there.

I'm too lazy to read through all 70 some odd pages. So long as there's a big pit in the middle for a bonfire I got no suggestions. Looks like a fun place though.

Speaking for me, I do belong to that site. Do I frequent it? No, not really at all. To be honest, I can't remember the last time I was on it.

The reason I'm on this site is because I spend my time in the technical forums that are RX-8 specific. Your forum doesn't offer a broad base and allow me to keep up with those issues.

I'm in the MW subset simply as an outlet of what I said above and it is right here.

You may think I'm arguing with you just for the sake of arguing (which I have been known to do). We've met in person a few times. I like you and have never had an issue with you of any sort, so I'm trying to be constructive here, and I’ll list some reasons off the top of my head:

Instead of always posting your website address, perhaps you should give reasons why someone like me that never goes there should go there. You're trying to sell something - your website - but sometimes it appears like you're trying to push people into it. And adding vague, masked insults doesn't work either.

I don't need to have a reason to go to your website. That's not my issue/concern. But it clearly is yours as demonstrated by your posting. So again, inform me why I, or anyone else, should devote time there instead…

Apparently, that site existed before this one. But I belonged to this site way before the Chicago one, and before I ever even lived remotely near the Chicago region.

Also, this group - Evolv - began as an outlet of this site. It seems like a natural place to come to because of this. Further, when the Evolv group first got started it appeared that any sort of rotary organization within Chicago was no longer in existence.

Odds are any new RX-8 owners will find this site first before yours. This group has picked up many new *members* as a result of that. I would guess that many still spend time here for those very reasons. As example, a few from our group recently went to the track. We made another connection with an RX-8 owner as a result of that thread. That member is not from the Chicago region and probably would not have met and gone with us had we only posted our thread there. The scope here is simply larger, at this point.

OH ****!

I'm sorry!!! That wasn't meant to be an insult to you. I totally got a little dyslexia there and mistook your name for RSD and she would have seen the humor in that.

My sincere apologies.

I'm working on a response to answer your questions though.

First, and again, let me apologize as any percieved insult was meant with more
humor than anything and it's my bad if it came across as anything more than that.

Ok...officially, RC3 has technically been in existance (in some form or another)
since, from what I can tell, 1998. It was originally run by Steve Cirian who
passed the batton to Bill Allred in 2003 and to me in 04. Our original list had
about 130 members, though I don't know how many were actual owners. Today, we have
117 RX-7 owners and 56 RX-8 owners and I know there are a ton more out there. The
rest are made up of non-owner enthusiasts. The club has had its down time over
the last couple of years. We launched a new site at chicagorotary.com but didn't
last too long due to issues with the service provider. We let it lay dormant for
the rest of the year and in March of 2006, we relaunched with a new site and forum.
All told, as of this post we have 199members and over 5000 hits to the site.

The goal of the club is to have a central point where local rotary enthusiasts can
get together to do...anything really. Whether it's to hang out and talk about the
cars, or something else, go to the track or strip, attend events and shows or
anything else that others with common interests would want to do. We had a rather
successful, if not eventful BBQ this past July and intent to make it a yearly local
event. The intention is to become a large part of the rotary community as a whole
and take part in larger regional and national events such as MRR, SevenStock and
whatever will become of the Rotary Revolution to name a few.

We understand the benefit of having a community like the 7 and 8 club sites and in
no way are we intending to take away from that. I post quite a few things on that
site, but I also understand that it's a different venue in that it's on a world
wide level. This is a local forum. It's filled with (or will be anyway) all the
local information that one could want from local events with other local clubs as
well as meet info and the like. I realize that there's an ad hoc local forum here,
but there's nothing technical there. RC3 is the home for all local things for ALL
rotaries. Yes, Evolv is out there and 8 specific. And there are no issues with
keeping things like that seperate. The advantages are plenty. To name a few:

Multiple threads:

If I'm new, I don't want to have to go through a single thread that has over 1000
posts just to see what's going on. Not to mention a devotion to the site and the
ability to quickly moderate things as needed. This works especially well with
meets as well as having our own calander and if wanted, email addresses.

Local resource information:

As time goes on and reputations grow, you'll see that a repository of local
information will be present. From tuners to parts to online material such as
manuals and the like. The intent is to be a one stop shop. True, there are other
places online that already have this, but the goal is to be as complete as
possible. All the tech manuals are already posted for the 7s and 8s. As time goes
on, older rotaries will have their info as well as manuals for common ECUs, how-to
writeups, and whatever else anyone wants that could benefit the community.

Meets:

I understand the point of posting meet info on a large forum, but again, we're
talking about the general banter threads. However, why wouldn't that information
be published locally as well? It's not setup yet, but I can very easily have
several sub forums created for local specific information and more larger area info
that can be read by anyone. Those interested outside of the area could be informed
by a simple small thread with a redirect. The point is that if they're our meets,
why wouldn't they be posted on our forums? North Dakota folks aren't going to show
up I bet and it also reduces (or contributes in reducing) the load on the larger
forums by not cluttering it with unnecessary information.
What I've been asking is that everyone here that knows about it...just stop posting
here. Especially in this particular forum. A big ol sticky at the top of the
regional forum with a redirect will allow for any new local owner to learn about
RC3 without taking anyone away from the vast knowledge base that these larger sites
have to offer.

What I'm asking is that everyone unite in an effort to gain frendships with one
another and pool our resources and talents together. If we can do that, then we
can ensure that there's more fun for everyone as we'd have the numbers to support a
track day at Autobahn or Gingerman, a large caravan to MRR or SevenStock that could
gain national attention (think Rotary News, RX Tuner or even C&D or R&T) or even
eventually host our own regional or national events. Whatever we wanted to do.
No, we can't please everyone and that's not the intention. There will still be a
few that want to split off and go cruising. Some will meet for an hour or so and
split. Some will be there an hour early and be the last one to leave.

The club in its current incarnation is still in its infancy. Things are still
being figured out. Rules need to be set. A presence is slowly growing. By moving
this traffic to where it belongs, and by that I mean in our home, it will allow us
that ability to grow as a community and become our own unique organization.
Hopefully this addresses some of the concerns. It's certainly never been my
intention to give a sales pitch. I'm not selling anything other than the
opportunity to be part of a club that's trying to be YOUR club. That understands
the area and knows everything there is to know about it.

Happy rotoring...

Christian

Don't worry about it. If I was really insulted, I would have pm'd you to tell you exactly how I felt.

Like I said, I'm just trying to be constructive. I don't know how many times I've seen you post again and again asking why no one was over there. But yet you never attempted to give any of us a rationale why.

well isn't the rationale : it's a local forum?

they're all over the place (GA, FL, TX, CA to name a few) ...

Actually I really like the idea of a local forum for meets especially: you have to be a registered user to view the locations. It's nice to know some jackhole isn't going to call the cops and alert them to where we are going to be (esp if there is a cruise planned)

Semper Fi!

I've seen you around, but never got around to saying hey.

94-98 active and on and off reserve 'til 02.

3043 and 9982 in Oki and Pendleton.

Red Devil...

I guess my though was "Hey...it's a Chicago site. That should be good enough." Didn't know that people needed reasons to go somewhere that was tailored for them.

I know where you're coming from and believe me, I'm trying to find ways to make it more enticing.
