As far as radar detectors go, I've been pretty happy with my Escort 8500, but it is my first detector so I have nothing to compare it to. I picked it up used in the for sale thread here. It has probably prevented me from gettting a couple of tickets.

A friend of mine who has a mazdaspeed-6 (who some of you met this spring in Sycamore) got nailed in wisconsin last week for 92 in a 65 by a WI state trooper - this carries an automatic court appearance, 15 days license suspension, and a $286 fine. Anyone have more info on the license suspension, ie., is that just in wisconsin, is he ok to drive elsewhere or is he truly SOL, can this be lowered in court? Any info would be great.

Thanks, Al - from what I can read on the WI DMV page, it looks like he may just not be able to drive in Wisconsin for 15 days.

Does anyone in the area have an engine crane they wouldn't mind letting me borrow next weekend, the 25th-6th?

Hey everybody. It looks like I may be taking another trip out of the area in short order to pick up parts for a car I am building.

The owner of this car has many many spare parts from several rx8 tear downs he has done over the past year or so. Anything from seats, to radio's to brake calipers, maybe a transmission or 2. I will try to get a full list in the next day or 2.

If there is anyone in the greater Chicagoland area that needs anything, and they don't want to pay the kinds of shipping charges it would take to get the parts here from one of the coasts let me know. I will be able to get a good price on the parts for buying in bulk and only ask for a marginal sum to help offset the cost of gas for this trip.

I will be taking a large Chevy truck with an enclosed rear end so there will be plenty of room and zero chance of any delicate parts getting wet.

This trip will most likely happen either the last weekend of this month (the 25th-27th) or the first weekend of August (1st-3rd).

Louis- The bottom part on my lever does that as well when its warm out.... I think its just because of what it is made of.

Mac- I know it might be a long shot, but if any of the ones being torn down have a decent aftermarket exhaust, i would definetly be interested. I also am looking to get a new silver trim piece that goes along the drivers side of the center console... mine is pretty worn out

I will check to see if these are availabe. On the front spoiler, is that the add on spoiler from the aero package or the OE piece between the rotor shape and the plastic under tray?

I just got off the phone with the guy and there are no name brand catbacks there is only 1 that had a custom made setup. He was going to get back to me with the details and find out if he has the silver trim left. Those seem to go pretty quickly.

The picture, referenced in the link, is for the OE piece with the rotor shape. Not the aero add-on piece.

Thanks.

Section of return line that attached directly to passenger side oil cooler - just putting it on this official list so you don't forget

Hey All, I need to source some OEM RX8 beige leather seats. So if you guys (and gals) hear of any in the Chicagoland area, let me know, I would appreciate it.

apparently not. I was mistaken on what was being asked for. What it has are the brown/black leather seats. So nobody gets to claim the shinka paint.

Yea, they are like that. It's when it gets cold that those things snap off (most people don't even notice). I had mine replaced about a year ago ... it's a TSB.

Uh, I have first-hand knowledge

Your license is suspended in WI only, so have someone drive him to court if his court date is within the suspension time. That's awesome on the fine, though ... mine was $500!

Tell him to go into court and apologize and say he is concerned over what impact this will have on his insurance--at least that's what I did. I had no defense ... I was bad. That (and a nice skirt) got my fine and the speed over both cut in half.

My insurance went up $16 every 6 months and won't go away for three years from the violation (I just called to ask not too long ago). This whole national reciprocity thing sucks ... no matter what state you get busted in, they'll pretty much find you.
