First snow - I love it
So just a few days ago I played tennis in shorts and tshirt and we got this
needless to say that I love it .. and the best part is that I love it even more when everybody rolls late into the office and bitches how bad it is .. HAHA
well since its my first snow in the 8 - here is a quick review
1. car starts .. haha .. had to say it for al the racall junkies and other complainers on this board
2. its not freezing so this really wasnt a test for the dunlops, roads are black and in positive temps, so it's no different than a cold rainy day
well, since i'm betting it's gonna be back to 60 in a few days, i'm still not putting snows on unless i get bored one day
anyways this was fun .. anyone up for some sloppy football later on?

LOL - I can wait -- but lucky me, here in Indy it seems the past few years it's hit north of me, or south of me and have only had one or two bad days and no need to drive on those days

Snowed up this way, too, Blue. None of it stuck, but with the temp around 40deg and wet pavement, things were a li'l squirrely under acceleration and turns at intersections (on the stock Dunlops).

Gotta agree whole heartedly with alnielsen! I just got "Blue" at the end of January this year... and when we had that one really good snow here in Indy, I HAD to go into the office ON the OEM 'comes with the car' tires... BIG mistake --
Started off well, actually didnt do to badly, everyone going nice and slow - didnt get stuck at a stop sign or light (tho many others were) then made the mistake of getting on (southside) 465 to 65 north to go into downtown... :sigh: intially not that bad...pretty much just the slow lane was being used - middle lane some truck drivers using and suv's -- and everyone going slow, taking their time being safe blah blah... then right before I got to the 65 North ramp, some idiot (yes, being extremely polite with that word choice) in a HUGE jacked up suv comes tearing along beside me doing at high speed, cuts over in front of me to hit the southbound ramp - sending slush flying all over the front end -- you got it ... I didnt hydroplane - I slush-o-plained... 360 twice across all 3 lanes and ended up facing the opposite direction on the inside of the highway... I was damn lucky... ended up like a fancy parallel park job straight in towards the guard rail about 10 inches away all the way down the car.... THEN I was stuck and had to get a tow to get out -- 2-hours later went straight home...not a single scratch (lucky lucky lucky SO lucky).... AAA ended up saying later that evening that the majority of accidents that day were CAUSED by suv's...
Ended up telling them was working from home office on any more days like that... And have since had fun 'burning' the rubber off the old tires - have put on a nice set of Toyo all weather - and am going to a buy-here-pay-hear this weekend to get an old beat up suv to drive for the winter :snicker: (where are the zero down $99 a month deals now that I want one!!!)

We had snow up here, too. This morning the roads were covered with wet snow and slush.
I took a bus to work instead of driving on the OEM tires. On snow & sleet you may as well strap skis on the car... you'll have equal traction and control.

I appreciate your concern, al, but I have a set of Blizzaks on their own wheels sitting in the garage... Just waiting for when I REALLY need them. Today wasn't that day, and with the temps going back into the low 60's for the next week, I can put it off a little longer.

I'm new to the Midwest, coming from NY there was no need for winter tires since I hardly drove. I have been doing some thread searches on the best winter tires for the 8. So far I see good reviews on the Bridgestone Blizzak tires LM-22(17's), WS-50(17's) and LM-25(18's). Do all you agree? Also I heard that 215 are better than 225. What are your thoughts? The price's I was quated are was as follows: LM-25 $1,320, LM-22 $1,130, WS-50(225) $1,030, WS-50(215) $930.

I have the WS-50's in the 225 size (17"). I only put 500mi on them last winter, and as long as you understand that they perform nothing like the stock tires (both in a good and a bad way), they're acceptable. I didn't go for so-called "high performance snows" partially because I bought late in the season and the pickings were slim, partially on price (though this wasn't a big difference), partially because this is my ONLY car and I'd give up the high-performance side to get the best snow traction for when I really needed it.
I am perfectly capable of taking it slow for three months to adapt to the less-than-perfect tires to have better performance in the slick stuff. If you want better overall performance (and a speed rating above 99mph), you'd be happier with another model of tire. I'm not sure where you're seeing a lot of good reviews of the WS-50 here, they're regularly savaged by posters for being relatively low-performance snows... And at least one poster has come to the conclusion (using inference and, I suspect, an unexplainable bias) that the WS-50 are the WORST snows you can get. Then again, others swear by them. I'm somewhere in the middle... Haven't gotten any really solid experience in terrible conditions to say either way.
And yes, 215's are better for snow traction than 225's, because with snow narrower is better. However, I justified my purpose by saying "meh, 10mm is no biggie". Very scientific of me.
