IN Fort wayne, indiana

Just wanted to introduce myself and see if there's any rx8 owners around me. Background info: I'm 25, college student, I've wanted an rx8 since 04 but I didn't want to borrow to get one, so I finally got one, new engine so mechanically its sound but needs a new paint job and body work. Anyways, if you live in fort wayne and you're ever working on your 8, I'd love to help, I'm a quick learner. Thanks

Welcome. I'm also in fort Wayne. Good to hear you finally got one. I actually just got done doing a bunch of stuff on my car. But if you have something on your car you want to get done just let me know. I love working on them. Learn something new everytime.

Also if you are unfaniliar with how rotaries work you should check out the video in my sig. Really good video that provides a basic understanding of how the engine is different

Hey, I'm glad to know there's someone else in fort wayne on these boards! Well, to be honest with you I've worked on cars a little bit before so I know the basics, I'm very new to the rotary but prior to purchasing one I lurked these forums for a while and read up on them quite a bit...still lots to learn though. Oh and I've got an autotragic, considering fixing up the issues she's got and selling and buying a manual, believe it or not this is the first automatic vehicle I've EVER owned.

Lol really? That stinks. I've actually never owned a auto. I've driven them before but I've never bought one. What year is yours? Do you know if it is the four port or the 6 port? And most of the maintenance is the same as a piston engine. You won't start getting into rotary specific stuff until you start doing some aftermarket or in depth repairs such as sohn adapter or cleaning your ssv. Compared to most modern cars it is fairly easy to work on. Unless youre used to working on hondas or something. I know there is a few more of Fort Wayne. I'm sure they will notice this thread before later.

It's the 04 Auto 4 port version...I'm in the process of completely returning the car to stock and fixing every little issue with it. I'm doing it because a) I prefer the stock look of the car anyways and anything that doesn't work completely as it should bothers me and b) it'll sell better if I decide to go that route, that way I can get an MT =)

Yea I do like the stock look. Tasteful mods look good too though. What stuff is on it already? Yeah you need to fix it up nice drive it for a bit then sell so you can get a six port manual.

Well to be honest with you he put some weird carbon fiber hood on it, not a good one...it's got hood pins, I'm not digging it at all, then the front bumper itself is in primer, I'm pretty sure he said it's an authentic mazda speed front bumper, it has a few scratches on the side, not sure yet whether I want to tackle that or let a bodyshop handle it, I got a quote of $250 per fender, the passenger side front and rear fenders each have a little bit of fixing needed, nothing major. And yeah, I definitely want a 6 port 6spd but I think it'll be a miracle, even after completely fixing this car for me to sell it and find someone selling a 6spd around the same price

It's got 81k on the body and 4k on the engine (have all the receipts from a mazda dealership in TN). Yeah I got it for about 60% of KBB.

At least you got a good price for it. You are going to have to post some pics of it

Yeah soon, I hate the hood that's on it now, I've already got a new hood waiting to be installed, just have to make it down to my parents house to install it (where my tools are at and so is the hood heh)

Thats good. Doesn't seem like too much work is needed. I saw a chick in a red 8 today at advance auto. I guess she lives somewhere in the same neighborhood as my gf. I wonder if she is on this forum.

I rarely see Rx8's but there was an Rx8 I constantly saw at autozone (or advanced auto, can't remember which) on state next to family video, I assumed one of their employee's. You'll know me if you see me cause I'm a titanium grey rx8 with a bumper in primer and a sunlight silver hood, LOL...I'm working on it though. Yesterday I switched that crappy hood out for the sunlight silver hood in excellent condition, also had to replace the hood latch, changed the oil and programmed a key fob. Still to do is: under tray, front bumper mesh (very important and probably #1 on the list), obviously paint the front bumper and hood, new tires, probably new brake pads/rotors.

Yeah...I'm terribly anxious to get it all done but it's more of an issue of $ but still partly to do with time. Currently working part-time (very few hours) and doing summer classes. I'm still in college, going to IPFW for mechanical engineering, BSME
It feels like it's just me and you in fort wayne with an rx8, where's everybody else? =)
Also, I stopped by auto zone today (or advance auto, I forget) to talk to that person with the red rx8 and ask where a good place is to get a decent premix and it turns out its a chick, and I think she's a manager there, I didn't have but a few minutes so I couldn't hang around waiting on her so I left but she has a nice red rx8. With that said, is there anywhere locally to get a decent premix? Autozone/advance auto carry coastal and pennzoil 2-stroke premix. neither of them are designed for marine use so I suppose they'd do the trick but cmon, I love this car I'd like to put something nicer in it, heh

That's probably the best you're going to get unless you order it. I'm thinking about ordering idemitsu. Yea I saw her rx8 from a distance and it looked nice. I'm guessing you live on this side of town then?

You could also try hires off of Lima. They are the only shop left in town that is geared towards racing. Only place that carries redline, fills nitrous etc. They might have something

I missed it :\

I didn't know it was going on unfortunately, but to be honest with you my rx8 still needs a lot of work so I'm kinda hesitant to even show it, hah

That sucks. There was only two rotaries racing out there. It was me and an FC that has a 13b swap non turbo. I am not really sure why he would do that swap lol
