Greetings! Thanks for allowing me to join. I have had two RX-7s in the past ('87 coupe, and '91 convertible, which saved my life in a highway crash) but bought my first '8 several months ago. So far I am digging it, and already I have found some useful intel here, so thanks for that.
I do, however, have two questions. While the car is very low mileage (it's an '05) one things is rather strange about it, rather, a sound that it makes. It generally happens when the engine is either cold or just moderately warm, and I hear it as I accelerate. That is, it almost sounds like a wind noise issue that "seems" to come from the passenger front. It seems to go away after a while.
Next, I recently had some service done and afterward it feels like the "extra pull" above 5k seems deficient. My understanding is that it's a tuned runner assembly (like on my RX-7s). This hasn't been a gradual decline. I can't recall what controls that intake path length system, but I wondered if anyone had some quick feedback / a hunch where I might look for - perhaps a connector that didn't get plugged back in etc.
Apologies in advance for the very noob-like questions, but it's been almost two decades since I had an RX variant (my other ride is a flat-six Subaru Outback); the convertible saved my life when I fell asleep on the highway...long hospital stay, lots of physical therapy, many broken bones, but the front end crumpled up like an accordion, thus saving me...that was back in '06).
I digress...
THANKS,
Mark Alan Jay

Does the wind noise only happen when the car first starts or has cooled off substantially? The noise could be the air pump which forces air to heat the catalytic converter on cold starts.
You mentioned a recent service. Did the shop replace the air intake filter? They might have disconnected a vacuum line. This could be causing the hesitation. Take a look around the air cleaner box.

Well, not "cold" per se, but cool. I have not driven in it cold weather or snow. I don't plan to - that's what the Subaru is for.
Yes, it seems to go away after the engine has been warmed.
The service was, ironically, for a bad cat, however, it had been hit (prior owner) and the clamshell had a sizeable dent in it - when the tech looked inside the cat w a boroscope the brick had a fairly large crack in it - the car was throwing "catalyst underperform" code. It has since stopped w a new cat but now I wonder if this air pump issue may have been part to the cat failure. If so, it seems immediate replacement is warranted.
Your query prompted me to look for one on line - they're not pricey, so if bad, is it a simple enough swap for me to make or are there tons of items in the way?
Thanks for your assistance.
Mark
BTW, the car doesn't really hesitate, but then again I usually let it warm up a solid five minutes or so.

The air pump only runs for the first minute or so after start up, until the cat is up to temp.
The S-DAIS intake runners are solenoid controlled, you would get a check engine light if they weren't behaving as expected. Is the car stock? Most driveability issues on this car come down to intake, and most aftermarket intakes are downgrades.
If you're not already familiar, have a read at rx8help.com, new owners section. There's stuff to know.

Stock. 100%. Super-clean car though (w six-speed manual). It really is a beautiful car. Close to immaculate and had a perfect Carfax etc.
Thanks for the link; I appreciate your help and insight.
