License Plate ticket this morning

Around 6am, in Wentzville.

I am at a stop sign and a trooper drives by. I pull out a bit later (break in traffic) and 1/2 mile up the road, he is pulled over. I pass, he jumps out in traffic and rides my tail for about a 1/2 mile. Lights go on, I pull over.

When he comes to the window, I have all paperwork ready to go. He says to me:

Your tint is illegal and you do not have a front license plate
So he tests the tint and guess what? It's okay. He then goes back into his car and 15 minutes later produces a ticket. He states that this is not a points off your license ticket, but a summons to pay. Got to love DOR.

So I look at the envelope and it reads $133 fine! Wow.

Just thought I would post my Trooper Experience.

Paul

if I Was a cop... i would be cool as hell and do just enough to make the "boss" happy in terms of tickets and such, otherwise i'd be parked under a bridge taking a nap or something

I've heard that if you show up at the courthouse and prove that you have a plate they reduce your fine considerably. Might be worth checking into.

Put the front plate on, take a picture of it on the car, and go to court. Usually these tickets are compliance tickets, show that the car is back in compliance, ticket gets dismissed. That was my experience this spring in Illinois.

that's right. I got a ticket once in Southern Illinois once for having an expired registration tag. My car's registration was up to date, I think I just forgot to put the sticker on or someone stole it off. Anyway I got a replacement from the DMV and came to court with it to prove a got a replacement sticker and the dismissed the ticket. It's worth a shot.

If you talk to police officers (some do drive RX8's), they say that people report them for being "parked under a bridge taking a nap or something" to their chief or the office of professional standards. They could however just ignore you.

most cops are cool, but as always its the few that are hardass dicks that spoil the reputation. ive been pulled over several times and twice have had a cop who was obviously out to get me (always equip violations, the one speeding was for 38 in a 35) and they are the ones that stand out

I'm a cop in the AF. That's gotten me out of some tickets.
I'm not sure on the IL law about front license plates, but if there isn't a bracket for a plate how can you have one?? I didn't put the plate on the front of my car for two reasons...
1) it looks stupid
2) i'm not drilling into my mazdaspeed bumper.

so anyway, if you're nice to cops and just explain why you don't have it up there, they'll probably just let you go. But every once in a while you'll find an ******* who's having a bad day and takes it out on you.

I know, haha. Its my own fault though. I have been so busy, I also forgot to renew my plates. Oops :-O. The cop was super cool too. He checked my car out as we sat in his car while he wrote me my tickets, he asked me if it was fast, if I raced. What auto-x was, and he said "Yur car thur is pertty sharp. I like it". No, I didn't mispell anything.

Oh well. The tickets were my fault. Now, I have to drill in my front bumper and pay those hefty fines.

I got pulled out of a crowd of speeding cars last week because of tint (I actually have it) and no front plate. I was also accused of not wearing a seat belt also, so I told him he must not have been able to see it through the tint. He actually thought that was funny. Other than asking me a hundred times why I have tint and no plate he was pretty cool as he only ticketed me for the speeding.

I had my 8 down in Nashville last weekend and was pulled over for supposedly running a stop sign (which I didn't) - escaped with a warning, but it was total BS - he just saw a sports car with out of state plates and wanted to give me a hard time...

I got pulled over last weekend by Oswego's finest for having a licence plate cover. He said a law went in to effect January first that you can't have any cover at all (clear or tinted). I must have missed that one. I asked him why they were still selling them across the street at Target and Napa. He said, "Oh yeah, they sell those things everywhere." Seems funny that they make them illegal, but allow people to sell them within the city / state. So they get to collect sales tax on them, then turn around and give collect for a ticket!

Fortunately, I got off with only a written warning and he didn't walk around to notice no front plate on the car. I ended up putting on the front plate because I figured the next time I wouldn't get off so easy.
