Looking at an RX-8 in Columbus

I am looking to possibly get an RX-8. These forums seem like a great resource. I have looked at a few and really like them. I found one At Jack Maxton that has 26,000+/- miles on it with Leather, Manual transmission ect. Does anybody here have any info on the RX-8? the price seems too good to be true. Is there something I don't know about it? Anything I should look for before I sign the dotted line?

I really like the car. I am just trying to do my due dillagence

You're at the perfect place to do your research. I frequent these forums before I made my purchase, and found that there are some very knowledgeable members.

The best advise I can give you is to browse the forum titled

"Purchasing, Selling, Financing, & Insurance" located here: https://www.rx8club.com/purchasing-financing-insurance-56/

It's a good place to start, and will probably have a better answer to your question than here.

Welcome and good luck!

What your price range?
We have a few RX-8s at Bob Boyd Mazda in Lancaster.

You'd be buying from a fellow RX8Club member as well. (i.e. Me )

I could probably show you anything you'd want to know about it.
Stop by anytime and just ask for Brian

Thanks!

1st of all, it has 26,000 miles on it and there trying to sell it for 23,000? You can get the leftover 04's with lower miles for 24,000-25,000 after rebates. And those wheels look like there from wal-mart or something
I know ricart-auto mall has 15 04's left(the last time i checked 03/05) They arent the most professional salespeople but Im sure you can work something out, just becareful. Good luck

I wouldn't buy a used '04 when you can get a new one for around the same price although I would exhaust all options before heading to Ricart.

Since I got my RX-8 at the end of February I have put about 2500 miles on it and absolutely love the car. The only drawback is the gas mileage but its a sports car and its not unexpected. Good Luck and hope you can find the right car.

I agree with the comments on Ricart.
I've honestly never dealt with them personally but I've herd and read some of the horror stories out of there. Kind of like dealing with the Wal-Mart of the Auto Dealers. Bigger isn't always better.

Just my two cents.

I think everyone on the board is in agreement that we'd love to get another RX-8 owner on board and wish you the best of luck in your search no matter where you go.

Don't believe everything you read. I have been buying cars for over 40 years and know a little bit about cars. I bought my new 8 from Ricart and had the best car buying experiance of my life. I also heard and read all the stories about ricart so I was very cautious. None of my fears were realized. I got an excellent deal and have been very satisfied with both sales and service. Some one from the dealer is always contacting me to see if I have any questions or problems. I looked at dealers in Dayton and other Colombus dealers and could not find anyone at these deaers that knew jack about the 8. I always lots of research on a car before I think about buying and I want buy from a dealer where I know more about the car than the salesman.

You're gonna want a shower (or several, with LOTS of soap) after dealing with Ricart - they just leave you feeling slimey. That said, none of the other area dealers would even come close to the same deal. I talked to them all when I bought mine, and they all refused to play at that level. That's their choice, but I have 2 grand more in my pocket!

It's a dirty, dangeous experience, but keep your wits about you and you'll be ok. A leftover 04 should be at least 6 grand under sticker at this point.

Good luck!

This aint my first rodeo buying a vehical! LOL! I have delt with Ricart before. One of the biggest issues is that the salesmen have no knowlede of the cars and their finace guys just seem shady(I will most likely get my own). they are a good tool though. Use them as Leverage.

I made alot of calls today. No looking.....What a shatty day. even My dogs wanted inside and they never want to come in!

Off to Ricart tomarrow to test drive and find a bottom line....then I will pay BRIAN a visit this week. I will give Brians service departmant props (well at least the Dodge side) They were great with warrenty work on my Durango. Top Notch I tell ya. I hope the Mazda side is just as good!

I am so glad I checked on here. I would have never guessed nor would I have know about MAZDA cash (Its not on the web). Thank you all. This has been great! Knowledge is POWER.

The reason why i bought my car from ricart was they had the car/options i wanted. I know if i made them wait long enough i could get a good deal. Nobody is going to buy a rx-8 in the middle of dec....so in the end i got a good deal. But I was very cautious about everything.
The sales people didnt know anything about the rx-8. Thankfully I was reading on the forum several months before i went there to deal, so i knew alot of things about the 8. Sadly, I was the one telling them the info's about the car. There a big car dealership so they wont have the in-depth knowledge about the specific car. In fact, my sales person was from the nissian dealership. ANd when i went to test drove the 8, he couldnt even get the car out of the lot. He stall out 4 times before we came out and moved the car from the lot to the office. He had no experience with driving manual.

Another thing about ricart is they try to rip me off on my apr. After they ran my credit the sales manager said my apr is 6.9% for 5 yrs with a 11,000 down payment. I looked at him and said no that;s too high and started to get up and then he ask me what rate i was expecting and i said 4.3-4.6 and without hesitation he said 4.4%. I thought it was kinda odd since he was willing to drop it from 6.9% to 4.4%.

I also made a deal where they would throw the car cover for free(since it was the middle of winter and i dont have a garage). They agree to send me the cover but i had to make 4-5 calls to get the car cover. I had a different story everytime..it took over 3 weeks to get it. I know if i didnt call and be persistent i would never get the cover. I also had a missing plastic light cover on the door panel and never recieved it. When i took delivery of it they made a note and said it would be taken care of,but i never heard from them. In fact after i purchase the 8 i never got a follow up call or thank you letter.

I take my car to mazda direct for service and what a difference from ricart! After my 1st oil change they kept calling to make sure everything was ok(i had some other things done to the car).
In the end i got what i wanted, but just be very careful when dealing with any car dealership.

As far as the leftover 04's people are getting 6-7 off invoice price. What options are you looking for?

I'd also recommend avoiding Ricart. They may have the best prices but (in my opinion) it's usually not worth the hassle. I got mine from Mazda Direct. They did an ok job but I'll probably take my service work to be done at Byers Mazda after the first year (free oil changes for a year) since they're closer to where I live on the west side.

I figure it's free right now so I'll let them do it. You'll be proud of me though, I changed my tires on my own. (which I need to do again this weekend to enjoy the summer tires).

How's the iPod interface working for you?

I might take you up on the oil change thing in the future though. Assuming I can do it without getting dirty.
