Yes, it's this weekend. I don't think I'll go, unless I feel like I've got too much time, and then only to sight-see and spectate. I went last year, and drove, (not real well) and I think it is definitely worth the money to do once anyway.
I wasn't too keen on waiting in line so much, or having to rush from stage to stage, but it did feel good to get out there and wring out a car briefly.

I'm an east metro kid, so I may not be the best judge, but if you take 169 to the horse track I'd say its about 15-20 maybe a bit longer with the perpetual construction, traffic and lights on that end of town.

No, not far from the Mega Maul, but 494 is STILL under major construction and 169 is always packed with traffic and filled with lights. Once you get out of the dense surburbia down there the roads open up.
I'm on the east end of town and for me to make that trip it's well over an hour with all the lights and detours. The traffic around the Maul on the weekend is just horrible...all you out of town folks not knowing here your going or what lane to be in. :D
France and Penn are loaded with traffic and stop lights, just make sure to allow yourself plenty of time if you need to be some place at some special time.

This map is close enough. You can zoom into the mall and the horse track.
This will give you an idea.

So how was it?
I drove past the horse track on sunday morning on my way to my grandparents place and I was hoping to see a whole convoy of 8 or Mazda cars but I didn't see a one.
So was it a good turn out? They pushed the event on 93X friday morning, but haven't heard anything else about it.
So spill it, how was it.

I thought it was a good time, although only saw 2 RX8s and a few 7s. I didn't wait in line to drive any of the Mazdas. I thought it better than last year. Canterbury definitely better than Fairgrounds.

The classics have down town St. Paul on friday nights on Wabasha St. and on occasions No. St. Paul has classics nights on friday or sat sometimes.
The kid at work is a ricer and they have little events here and there.
I know there's a MN rotary car club but I don't belong. I'm not plugged in enough to know of any clubs or usual hang outs.
More often than not, if you just drive around any of the major metro lakes you find all sorts of car clusters. Cruising the lakes are big in the summer.
Well I guess I didn't miss much at the Rev-it up then if there were only 2 8's there and a few 7's.

Ah Ha! Let me put in a plug for the local rotary club- NorthStar Rotaries. Go to our website at www.northstarrotaries.com and check it out. We would be glad to have you join the club or just the forum to know what we are about.
We have a lot of members who would love to see a real live Minnesota RX8!

I'm in the Sandstone, Finlayson area in July. For those of you wondering it's off of I-35 past Hinckley before Cloquet. But I'll be all over the metro area visiting family in Golden Valley and Plymouth

Quite familiar with the area, I too have family is Cloquet. Enjoy the drive to the cities. Back in April I took a trip to Duluth and if you have a dectector open it up a bit
Well if I see another winning blue running around, I'll just figure its you. Wrong side of town for me, but still a nice thought to put a name with a car...

Howdy rotary-convert. People must think you're some kinda high-fallutin' celebrity up there with a car like that!
My parents used to live in Sandstone, they had some decent acreage and a newer home with out buildings, including a large pole barn. The mice ransacked the interior of my old RX7 there.
Beautiful area! I miss it.
You might see me cruising around near the Plymouth area sometime. Best use caution; I'm not a very good driver, and the sight of another RX8 may be too much for me! (and it's blue?)

I will be adding an RX8 to Minnesota. I am moving to St. Paul from Aurora,IL in less than two weeks. I picked mine up last August and I have over 24000 miles on it. When I get up there I will check out the rotary club. I have been up to St. Paul/Minneapolis area about 6 times in the last three months and I don't think I saw a single other RX8 while I was up there. If you see a silver RX8 with IL plates please don't hit me, I am originally from Wisconsin, and I want to live in Minnesota.

I havn't been back to the area since I got my 8. Can't wait to see the expressions on the locals faces. Heck where I live now, a small town of 300 in Michigan, I have gas station attendants inquiring over the PA "Does that thing got a hemi?"
"No my missing tooth friend, its a rotary", I proudly reply.
And yes it is a beautiful area, spent much of my childhood there and can't wait to get back.
